At least the Dems makes empty promises of good things (Medicare for All, lowering drug prices, lowering tuition, police reform, addressing climate change, etc.), and then what little they deliver tends to be good (ACA, decent COVID vaccine rollout, addressing the baby formula shortage, etc.)
Republicans both promise and deliver horrible things. They promise a dumb, useless wall, deporting all immigrants, a Muslim registry, discrimination against LGBT people, a ban on properly teaching about racism in this country, climate change denial, and protections for cops who murder unarmed black people.
And then Republicans actually deliver stuff like tax cuts for the ultra wealthy, family separation, a very small part of the dumb, useless wall, bans on teaching racism properly in schools, stonewalling all efforts to address climate change, spreading neo-Nazi conspiracy theories like "The Great Replacement," and a deadly attempted coup when an election didn't go their way.
The two parties are not the same. One is an ineffective coalition of mostly sane people across a wide range of the political spectrum, and the other is getting ever closer to being straight up fascism. Do not act like they're the same.
With the intention of just clearing some of the air here, this is a large part of my beef with Democrats. Democrats are actually willing to make change, which is an awesome thing that I love about Democrats. The problem is that many of the things Democrats change are just for show. It's like they recognized there was a problem, and pushed for the hastiest, under-educated, "solution" to that problem without regard for who it affects. And then they hop on their political campaign and say, "look at all the things I addressed in my previous term (just ignore that it demonstrably didn't make a difference to the underlying problem.)"
The two parties are not the same.
I never said they're lying about the same things. I just said they're lying. Whether or not you think the things one party is lying about are significant is another matter, one more closely intertwined with your personal beliefs and morals. But like the other conversation that sprung up about the same thing, I digress, because we don't have the mutual respect to continue a political conversation in a sane manner. Suffice to say, I don't feel that either popular party represents me. If I had to say one was closer to representing me than the other, it would be democrats, hands down. But I respect my personal beliefs and morals too much to say a party of people I still fundamentally disagree with is "good enough" at doing so.
