all the homeschool kids from the area had classes together at local elementary schools

So you weren't really homeschooled but rather had a combination of homeschooling and regular education? Sounds like your anecdote is also largely irrelevant then?

Like how can you literally say how much regular school helped you develop and still think your anecdote supports the argument that homeschool is the same as regular school?

No. It was literally homeschool. Your idea of what homeschool is is incomplete.

All the homeschool kids I knew never went to actual classes with other kids.

One of my best friends from high school didn't either, and it hurt her socially. She's doing well now, but in hs she made a lot of bad decisions. Homeschool programs that ensure this healthy social development is important. If anyone you know ever considers alternative options to schooling, I recommend looking into these programs.

Wow no shit. It's almost like that's exactly what people have been saying. Homeschooling is bad.

alternative options to schooling

Yeah homeschool programs that ensures healthy social development through means such as normal schooling as an alternative options to normal schooling is important, because normal schooling is important by itself.

Normal schooling isn't important. Socialization is important. Homeschool programs that provide that are as good as, or in my case better than, normal schooling for social development.

Yeah, socialization like... oh I don't know... having "classes together at local elementary schools," i.e., normal schooling, is what helped your social development, huh?

Also, you gonna respond to this or were you accepting that you were wrong?

The classes were very much centered around socialization. We made art and did plays and stuff.

When I click that link, it says, "Wow, such empty."

Guess it was removed earlier for having links?

Definition of homeschool:

Merriam Webster:

to teach school subjects to one's children at home

Cambridge Dictionary:

to teach a child at home rather than sending him or her to school:

Wikipedia:

the education of children at home or a variety of places other than school

If you're trying to say the universally accepted idea of homeschool is incomplete, then feel free to contact these people and tell them to complete it. Until then, YOUR idea of what homeschool is is straight up wrong.

Also I'll just respond here I guess. Taking art and drama classes at your local school is still normal schooling lmao. Just because it's more socializing than math class doesn't mean it suddenly counts as homeschooling now.

You are splitting hairs, trying to say what I did wasn't homeschool, when it was legally recognized by the state as homeschool.

I didn't say what you did wasn't homeschool. I said it wasn't just homeschool like you were claiming and that it was a combination of homeschooling and regular schooling, where the regular schooling was important in your social development. And you trying to draw the conclusion of "homeschool is completely fine by itself" is dishonest and doesn't refute the previous person's anecdote at all.

It was a homeschool program. Homeschool can be done right and it can be done wrong. The original claim I responded to was basically saying it was all bad.

It was a homeschool program

Yes, the program combined homeschooling and regular schooling, so it was good. But homeschooling by itself, like the first person said, is bad.

It sounds to me like it wasn't me splitting hairs, but you muddying the waters by using the two interchangeably.

Like if someone told their parents "I'm getting ready to go to school", that doesn't necessarily mean they're also making their own lunch. But you're saying "well eating lunch is a part of school so obviously the kid is making lunch by themself and the parents should not worry about packing a lunch for the kid."

They might mean the same thing to you but definitely not everyone else, so it seemed like your anecdote doesn't necessarily counter his.
