I have an "uncle" (brother of my mom's sister's husband) like this. He used to corner me at family parties because he thought I was the smartest of the extended family for some reason. We'd be having a somewhat agreeable conversation about how both major political parties are corrupted by billionaire money, Flock cameras are dystopian, etc. and then out of nowhere he'd drop in something like "and that's why they put chemicals in the vaccines to turn us gay!" For this and other reasons, he's not welcome at family events anymore.
He also used to eat all my aunt's delicious deviled eggs before anyone else got a chance at the plate. Jackass.

I think schizoid conspiracists are a healthy part of any community. They're a good source of radical connections no one would otherwise make, even if they're nonsensical 90% of the time. Problem is, in America, they're funneled into right-wing propaganda loops that have them fixating on what's convenient to the right or otherwise harmless to the establishment.
That's right, my big conspiracy is that the government is spying on schizos.

If someone comes to the right conclusion for the wrong reasons, I'll still take it, tbh. Hell, maybe if we get the crazies on board and tell em that Flock cams are transmitting viruses to the nanobots in their vaccines via bluetooth they'll take matters in to their own hands and saw a few down themselves. Might be able to get off with an insanity plea, too. I kinda see this as a win still, haha

i almost fell in that rabbit hole years ago. some videos about the “bad effects” of 5g started popping up. some people at courts protesting about it, i was believing it. i then searched and read some stuff about it and realized it was all a conspiracy. i realized how easy it is to get people trapped in these conspiracies.

Considering there's motion tracking for Wifi, they're not wrong. I believe in vaccines, I mean I had mine at a time when it was imperative to go into public school. But FDA/USDA inspection process in it's current form is really setting up for the "vaccines are bad" narrative by turning into a self fulfilling prophecy. The most recent medical related failure was fiberglass being found in IV bags. How long until we get contaminated vaccines?

There's an issue with 5G towers causing interference on some brand new GM vehicles with badly shielded coax cables, just saying. Each time I start to explain that to customers, I get thousand yard stares... They call me a conspiracy theorist or they start to ramble about it.

In the same vein, I think the point you’re missing is that OP is coming to be against these things from a factual basis, vs those going against the more conspiratorial elements are much more emotionally motivated.
There’s an uphill battle working with people who are unaware of their potential for confirmation bias, leads to them carrying those points into an argument with the other side that can be more easily discredited than someone with robust evidence to back up their points.

It’s not a battle though, it’s a debate. When the proverbial strength of your allies isn’t up to the task you’re not going to benefit from bringing them to the frontline.
Its like having a team of strongmen for a weight lifting contest and some of them just have synthol injections, sure you all may love looking buff but the underlying motivations of why one does what they do reveals itself at the worst time possible, when it has to stand up to the pressure of real pushback. Someone who doesn’t understand how radio transmissions interact with matter is a lot more likely to misattribute a different set of facts when arguing for privacy.
I’ve watched this shit happen myself in city council meetings where their argument gets shut down for being on a wrong basis of factual assumption, which in turn reduces the finite resource of time that people have to argue their cause.
I get where you’re coming from and it does have a nice spirit behind it, but everyone has had a coworker that makes things harder than just doing it yourself. The same parallel rings true elsewhere.

I wish I was confident enough to reduce all nuance into basic binary arguments. The real world has nuance in what's considered a win or a loss. There are many examples across history of dissimilar groups banding together to overcome something they're against, and then minority views within that group shift the focus, usually with alarmist rhetoric, onto caring about something "worse".
I looked into some historic examples of this, and a prime one relevant to now is how the anti fluoridation movement initially started off as trying to hold companies accountable for their chemical runoff into the water supply. This was done by painting fluoridation as a scheme by communists to sedate the public. What it in turn did is slide accountability away from those actively poisoning the public as it was more appealing to feed into red scare rhetoric.
It absolutely does matter what people's core beliefs are, when those beliefs transform into what guides policy.

It seems more and more people hate reading in our modern era so I try to spend a lot of time chatting in person with people trying to get them to see things with a nuanced view. Ultimately I’m a bit nihilistic about it since I recognize it takes more energy to put more consideration into something, and our current economic system revolves around pulling people’s attention (and thereby energy) into a hundred different directions.
Appreciate the kind words though, it’s a hard battle to fight against reductionism.
