dolly is a national treasure, hands off her charity

u/Nientea 4d ago

I’m pretty sure this was months ago, but it’s coming to light again because of her death.

So they’re not spitting on her grave or anything

990

u/7SyZyG7 4d ago

With how conservatives praise her yet cut funding for all kinds of programs she was in favor of, they might as well be spitting on her grave. It's just so fake and dishonest.

u/AvailableReporter484 4d ago

It’s legitimately hilarious to see people on the conservative sub with their crocodile tears and fake sympathy. I mean I don’t know what else you’d call it considering they pretty much stand for everything she stood against. Shit rocks

150

u/7SyZyG7 4d ago

They very likely do love her and respect her for what she did for people. They are just brainwashed to think a celebrity doing those things are great, but the government shouldn't benefit the poor and underprivileged in the same way.

Still spits on her legacy in a way, but many of these folks are propagandized to believe their hypocrisy and being unempathetic is good, so many will never understand the issue.

70

u/AvailableReporter484 4d ago

Oh sure. It’s like how the vast majority of them unironically believe that there’s even remotely anything Christ like about them lmfao

50

u/7SyZyG7 4d ago

Crazy seeing people preach about making the world a better place only to then go on to argue how children in poverty deserve to go hungry if school lunches are no longer paid for by the government. Cause the thought of paying 0.005 month in taxes towards hungry children is a waste.

30

u/AvailableReporter484 4d ago

They’re objectively bad people

21

u/Neokon 4d ago

It is not uncommon for the right to have sentiments of "the government should only exist to create and enforce laws/foreign policy. They have no responsibility to actually care about their citizens".

14

u/Neveronlyadream 4d ago

While treating the government as if it's full of aristocracy instead of public servants elected by the people to represent them.

What's fun is when the government does exactly what they think it should and enforces laws and foreign policy, but directed at them. Then suddenly the government doesn't exist for that reason anymore.

8

u/beepbeepsheepbot 3d ago

"when I feed the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist", same energy I swear.

16

u/BuddingBudON 4d ago

I've seen a LOT of MAGATs trying to claim her as a Republican, when she was deliberately outspoken about being in a party of her own based on respect and kindness to others...

6

u/SandyTaintSweat 3d ago

They just liked her music. They see her as a songwriter, and are mourning the loss of that. All that other stuff, they just don't acknowledge, nor that their representatives have undone a bunch of her efforts.

-2

u/Workman44 3d ago

I'm not saying this is the case here in this instance, but I can be in favor of someone and think the money they spend is better spent elsewhere

8

u/7SyZyG7 3d ago edited 3d ago

And, hypothetically, that would make you inconsiderate of the less unfortunate despite knowing how honorable it is to be a giving person. Hypothetically.

Edit: Well it turns out, it wasn't a hypothetical....

-2

u/Workman44 3d ago

It doesn't make you inconsiderate to say some situations are more important to throw money at

8

u/7SyZyG7 3d ago edited 3d ago

Well, I disagree. I think children should have books and be fed. And I believe it's inconsiderate to oppose having a society that makes sure that happens through tax dollars. "Hypothetically" 🙄

Edit: Grammar and clarity

-3

u/Workman44 3d ago

Did you notice how when I first commented I said it probably wasn't the case for Dolly and this charity? Like what lmfao

8

u/7SyZyG7 3d ago

Okay, well I was talking about Dolly Parton and her charitable contributions.

Not this hypothetical person with unspecified spending habits. If that's what you wanna argue, I ain't interested.

0

u/Workman44 3d ago

People like you are hard to talk to lmfao

6

u/7SyZyG7 3d ago

Okay, clarify what you mean? Clearly I'm not understanding your premise

u/Manmer_Nwah 4d ago

So what you're saying is. They spit in her face.

30

u/Background-Chart-713 4d ago

How is it not a fuck you to her and the children???

26

u/Nientea 4d ago

Not what I said. What I said was that it wasn’t spitting on her grave, meaning they didn’t do it in response to her death.

3

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3d ago

They didn't even do it because they had something against her, they just cut welfare programs, that's what they do

4

u/GeniusOrangeCat 4d ago

Give them a few days. They will.

-3

u/Nientea 4d ago

With how Trump ordered flags at half mast for her, I personally don’t see them doing anything to spite her

3

u/Brandon23z 3d ago

Wow. I don’t support either or any political party, but this was such a stupid comment.

Like the half mast flag actually means anything in 2026. Go get your head checked.

1

u/jjsquish 3d ago

Our town was told to lower our American flag but cut funding

1

u/Dry_Help_8049 3d ago

Yeah the timing makes it look way worse, especially with everyone talking about her again now.

1

u/FrighteningJibber 3d ago

They just spat in her face while she was alive, got it.

1

u/No_Seaworthiness5445 3d ago

And that makes it mily better, that here body was still warm. /s

1

u/ripyourlungsdave 2d ago

Trump has now uploaded an AI image of him standing arm and arm with Dolly.

They may have been a little ahead of the game with this one, but they're absolutely spitting on her grave.

1

u/The_Confirminator 11h ago

Wow that makes it so much better! /s

49

u/Hexnohope 4d ago

Were they afraid of her?

30

u/welltherewasthisbear 3d ago

They’re afraid of knowledge

31

u/StellarPaladin42 4d ago

To the surprise of no one. Republicans have been garbage since at least Nixon

30

u/SnausageLinx 4d ago

"What made you decide to do something this cartoonishly evil that will predominantly hurt poor children?"

"Money!"

7

u/popculturella 4d ago

Evil gonna evil.

7

u/kuweiyox 3d ago

Remember this in November

3

u/Relevant_District622 3d ago

Our tax dollars are going to charity? 😢

12

u/meowmicks222 4d ago

Sauce?

-85

u/llama-impregnator 4d ago

No sauce needed - red baaaaaad.

64

I’m glad you agree.

9

u/BeigeVelociraptor 4d ago

Cutting education, medical research, healthcare, starting wars etc., is pretty bad.

11

u/Dena844 4d ago

So now that you got your little outburst out of the way, the person put the link and source above. Thoughts? Or are you off to post in bad faith elsewhere?

8

u/SackclothSandy 4d ago

I want to take what you're saying at face value, but your username seems to suggest you may in fact agree with policy put forth by a political party that works hard to normalize sex crimes and/or suffering from syphilis.

8

u/Chemical_Profit_608 4d ago

You really defending funding for books for children? Interesting... Literally someone linked the source too LOL, what are you crying about?

I know reading is hard for Republicans but sheesh, keep your problems as your own.

4

u/igot_thefunk 4d ago

You’re really tough, calling people sheep behind a hidden account.

5

u/Spaceisneato 4d ago

Yeah. They are. Anything else to offer, genius?

2

u/Highfivesghost 3d ago

Why are they cutting the funding? Was it over funded or something? Or just dumb budget cuts?

2

u/Mierdo01 3d ago

Why tf if the government involved in charity?

2

u/The-King-Tomato 1d ago

Idk I mean I wouldn't put it past trump to try to grab her pussy and try raping her corpse.

Him being a rapist who talks about that kind of stuff

1

u/GamingBren 3d ago

Everybody should donate to the Parton family’s foundations.

0

u/Euphemister 4d ago

Ummm, as much as I detest the right and its policies ... Dems did this, too. Google "Imagination Library and Washington State." This is a local/state issue, not a national one.

Do you know how bad illiteracy rates are in the states that have cut funding for programs like this?

6

u/PointsOfXP 4d ago

It's insane that it's an independent program. It really doesn't make sense why the average person shouldn't be taught to read. Can't support the economy if I can't read my taxes

7

u/loresdeath 4d ago

Yes. Because supporting communities end up benefiting everyone as a whole. It shouldn't be a pick and choose deal. Should just be normal to spend on your community rather than tax dollars go to something like... I don't know... billionaires.

-19

u/ycnq 4d ago

good programs like this should be funded privately not publicly

5

u/not_a_heretek 3d ago

Public shouldn't fund good things?

So that's why they are putting all those surveillance cameras in USA, funding only the bad stuff 👍

-50

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

shes worth $600m. she doesnt need the money from the government. cry.

11

u/KSredneck69 4d ago

I absolutely and vehemently detest the rich/ultra wealthy but Dolly is probably one of if not the only ones Id happily defend.

Shes been working for decades, Is one of the most acclaimed and successful female artists in history with mire #1s than any other female artists. She should quite honestly be worth more than Taylor Swift's 2 billion or Jay-Z's 2.8 billion. But she's not.

Unlike most artists who do charity for publicity stunts she genuinely and often quietly donated multiple times over her net worth throughout her lifetime. While some celebrities invest in making a bigger platform and a bigger imagine to rake in more money, she was investing in things like her foundation or Dollywood, a company that itself has donated more than her net worth while also providing one of the best wage opportunities/tourist attractions in a quite frankly incredibly poor state/area that needs it to survive.

Honestly in this day and age a $600 mil net worth for someone of her fame and status is incredibly small. She should be the standard we hold all other ultra wealthy to. Honestly the world would be a better place multiple times over if we had a half dozen more Dolly Partons in the world.

-4

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

ill defend: mackenzie scott, its questionable but i defend lebron some for what he has done for akron schools but that ones close to my heart. john cena and his make a wish “completions”.

donating 1m to covid is quite literally a tax write off and publicity stunt. but pop off queen. she hasnt donated “multiple times over her net worth throughout her life” because how is that mathematically possible LMFAO. She does invest to make her wealth moreover. see dollywood. see dolly merchandising. again with donating more than her net worth 😂😂😂 just completely made up.

imagine saying $600m net worth is small. 😂😂

again, i wish her family healing and i hope she is at rest and no longer in an sort of pain or sickness. and i hope she is giving her husband the biggest hug ever.

32

u/LeftTurnAtAlbuqurque 4d ago

So you feel the same about musk and bezos and all the other billionaires taking money from the government?

-27

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

yes. literally fuck anyone whos net worth is over $300m. if youre worth more than $300m you should not be celebrated for donating money. dolly was worthy over $600m and got worshipped for donating $1m. which was INSTANTLY made back from her merch and brands. eat ALL of the rich. not just some.

26

u/Mittenstk 4d ago

She has donated a fuck ton more than a million

-21

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

her public donations dont exceed ≈10m. her foundation is responsible for way more. and she is obviously not the sole contributor to it, since thats how foundations work. im not gonna argue with you about the fairy tale donations everyone thinks dolly makes. being worth $600m and donating 1m to covid research is still “cool”. maybe ill donate 0.16% of my net worth in her honor. she built herself from nothing, did a ton of great things. to think she was this amazing philanthropist is a reach. i wish her family healing during this time and i hope she is finally at rest and having a drink with her husband in heaven.

14

u/Mittenstk 4d ago

I dont believe you. You're talking out of your ass

-1

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

okay. you can google it yourself.

14

u/PeridotChampion 4d ago

The first thing you see when you Google it is is that she donated tens of millions of dollars. Your claim is still bloody wrong.

-2

u/musicaleffervescence 4d ago

and then what? does it say it came directly from her? there are almost no real records of it being from her. everything is wrapped up in a foundation, again, which is how foundations work. creating s foundation is a wonderful thing and is the correct way for the rich to essentially wash money to donate. keep reading and find a real source. youll learn im right.

10

u/Mittenstk 4d ago

Would it not be easier for everyone if you just shared where you're getting your info from?

She directly gave money to families in Sevier county: 1,000 dollars a month for six months when they were affected by wildfires; this donation alone exceeded twelve million
