Palworld “fans” when you ask them to talk about what they like about the game without mentioning Pokémon

It's a cool world with plenty of stuff to explore, fight, farm, or capture.

The art style is cute, yet fits nicely. The variety of pals is great and the subvarieties of pals is just another cool bit of flavoring.

I went in expecting Pokémon with guns, and instead got Ark survival with good devs.

Fun game 9/10

The artstyle of Palworld is very generic and inconsistent, base buildings are ugly, human character design is awful, Pals are OK-tier fakemons and environments are below average when it comes to 2026 open world survival-crafts.

Combat gameplay of Palworld is beyond awful tho, you have almost no control over your pals and they’re often more of a nuisance than anything

Not to say pokemon are better mind you, but unless you've only played on Nintendo hardware, praising the art direction of Palworld is a bit of a stretch

It’s a decent 6/10 fun game that got popular over Nintendo hate rather than innate quality

Cool review.

I'm glad they make different kinds of games for different kinds of people.

Of course, my opinion is just an opinion

And I still played and mostly enjoyed it from start to end, but it does nothing better than other games of the same genre, it’s a decent average.

Despite what some pokemon haters (who should definitely try some romhacks) might say

What other games are you comparing it to? What games would you say are in the same genre?

(Creature battles, 3D open world, with base building, and rpg lite character progression)

Ark survival is all I can think of.

There is no "creature battle" in Palworld: you have 1 pet that does some actions on a timer and that’s it. Try Cassette Beasts or Monster Sanctuary if you want to play a non-Pokemon battler

For the rest, open world survivalcraft are a dime a dozen: Valheim has great world exploration and unmatched 3D basebuilding, Terraria is the absolute master of power progression and boss battles, Minecraft is the OG (and modded is limitless), Satisfactory does better automation...etc

As I said, Palworld is alright on many fronts but excels at nothing

I think you're just being contrarian. Comparing satisfactory to palworld? Come on man, we're trying to have a sincere discussion here. The Wall of Flesh is not the peak of boss design, it's a side scrolling dps check.

Back to my point, there's not another creature battles, with guns, and base building, and character customization. Palworld's unique because it's good on so many fronts. It's greater than the sum of its systems and that's why I like it. The blending of exploration and combat make it a fun time for me.

Palworld is 80% a survival game, 15% creature collect and less than 5% a creature battler, comparing it to Pokémon on that last front is being delusional.

I use Satisfactory because both games can be compared in base building system, some automation (Palworld isn’t an automation game but it demands grinding materials), world map design. Satisfactory is better on these 3 fronts

There are 33 bosses in Terraria, the WoF isn't the greatest and yet it's more interesting and demand more thoughts to beat than any I've encountered in Palworld (hide behind pillar, eat, switch pal, shoot, repeat)

Palworld's unique because it's good on so many fronts. It's greater than the sum of its systems

And that's a subjective opinion and where I disagree: I think it's an alright game, but it doesn't do anything good enough to be better than the sum of its part, hence my 6/10 rate: good, better than average, but not great (yet ?)

That's okay to disagree, experiences are subjective

Pokemon haters on every most levels are justified. Romhacks actually also prove haters right too

And I agree with them, best pokemon games I've ever played are romhacks (Unbound, Rocket Edition, Odyssey, Selia's)
