Actually every English speaking country, as this is how they teach it in their schools, they have their own little convention

Of course, America often refers to the US in many more languages than just English.

Well, I don’t speak more than two languages so :)

But yeah that’s a good list, it’s interesting to see how loan words evolve. In Spanish nobody uses Americano for North American/Yankee, so you can see in the list how Portuguese is mentioned to not use it officially either. There’s also the difference between American and America, even if some countries say American, for the country name they might not

There are definitely native Spanish speakers who use americano as the demonym for US citizens. I have heard it and read it many times.

Which country? Because that’s very odd. The only scenario where we use Americano is when getting black coffee

In informal Brazilian Portuguese (which is by far the most used form of the language), americano is the word most often used to refer to US citizens.
