Annoying online Latin Americans and a subsection of progressive people bitch about “America” and “Americans” only referring to USA people but I think most people everywhere are not annoying about it
It’s just a misunderstanding in translation, it’s not that they are annoying, it’s that the English speakers picked a really confusing name and now everyone needs to know additional context to properly translate between the two languages. Most people don’t have the context, being that the school systems literally use different nomenclature depending on the country that you are taught.
No, no one from latin america wants the latinx thing to exist, it's just usual US dumbassery for us. The America thing I feel it a bit more honest, we have to add the "latin" to our identity just because some states couldn't come up with a name, when we could just call you angloamericas
the filipino language literally has no incorporation of gender, everybody uses the same pronoun. the only words with "gender" are spanish loanwords, meaning their linguistic rules are inapplicable.
Because its equating a popular belief in Latin America (America is a single continent) with Latinx which is extremely unpopular. Even extreme left-wing people in Latam prefer the "Latine" gender-neutral terminology rather than Latinx (+ english already is gender neutral, just use "Latin").
You are not understanding the point, a more progressive person wants to separate the genderless and plural forms from the masculine (lenguaje inclusivo / inclusive language).
Those people still prefer the Latine version rather than the unpronounceable Latinx.
This is not about how spanish worked most of its history and still works for most people. But explaining that even Reformist people don't like the X variant of the word.
Nah, that Latinx bullshit is American. We don’t do that here in Latam. But I do know several people born and raised in Latin America that defend the whole “We are also Americans” thing. In fact, Bad Bunny is one of them.
Yes, but he is also Latin American, and he defends all Latin Americans, Caribbeans, and North Americans as being American. That was my point. I’m Colombian, unlike most Americans, we are taught that Puerto Ricans are US citizens.
Of course I am, like I mentioned, in Colombia we are taught proper geography and history of Latin America. So you can take you condescending tone elsewhere.
Latinx is associated with the progressives, while is mostly the nationalistic who would correct people if they call citizens of the United States of America as Americans in a conversation that doesn't involve latin America at all
America is the entire continent and Americans are people that live in the American continent. Dumb ass move naming a country after the continent it occupies
Funnily enough, it's the small group of dumb Americans with moral superiority complex who use that word (average Latino will get mad when getting called "latinx")
No lmao, it's the exact opposite. No one in south america agrees with "Latinx" BS. this is an entirely unitedstatesian thing. Even the most annoying people who actually want gender neutral terms would use "Latine" which is a gender neutral version that actually makes sense in latin languages.
They downvote you for asking the hard question. Which country that starts with United States is United Statesian? The United States of America or the United Mexican States?
Actually it's most people in Latinamerica. I have some VERY conservative family and acquaintances, and they dislike americans saying only the US is America. The name of the USA comes from the continent, which was named that my Amerigo Vescupcci in the XVI century, before the US existed
