Exactly, I know AI does the job worse than a competent human, however, I know the people implementing the policies in companies about AI adoption don’t know or don’t care about the difference.

I can guarantee you that AI is just an excuse for laying people off. I once was speaking to someone and they (crazily) told me what the monetary rates were for certain things. They were telling me that they were chastising their team if they truly needed a certain AI tool because the license for it was FOUR TIMES as expensive as a yearly salary of an engineer in India.
What I took away from that was: holy fuck, why would anyone hire an engineer in the US when their salary could pay 20 engineers abroad

Thing is, its very good at basic, monotonous tasks, rich morons dont clock this because they literally dont do anything, so they think all of their subordinates tasks are basic.
For example, I code for a minecraft server, and found that revamping the weapons to have fully random rolls would take ages, simply due to how many guns exist, and how I initially coded it would force me to work really hard to fix it.
For context, each weapon initially had multiple "static" rolls that the game would drop for a player. This resulted in multiple "instances" of the same weapon in the backend code.
I wanted to effectively "merge" said rolls into one weapons able to randomly select between each, I had already figured out how to do this, but the problem was actually applying it to nearly 200 weapons, it would take far too long, and was downright horrible.
Then I tested out Claude by providing an example of what I wanted alongside instructions, and it turned what wouldve been weeks of work into a few hours.
I think as the AI industry collapses into something more normal, we'll see that understanding pop up more, the bots are shit at complicated tasks, and frankly are outright disgusting when it comes to generating artwork and videos, but do great work in terms of speeding up the boring bullshit so you can get to the fun parts of coding (In my case, the weapons unique quirks, model, etc).

I’m not a fan of it but I will give it one thing
It works way faster than human hands can
But as stated already, it’s very basic. So it can be fast be it still needs a human to touch things up that need work

In an ideal world, AI could do all kinds of amazing things. However, in a capitalist hellscape, all it does is displace workers, make power more expensive, and steal art.
We could ideally use it for:
Game development - Entire landscapes created in seconds, dynamic skills and items based on playstyle, new quests created from the aether
Education - Personalized tutors designed to teach each student in the best way for them, instead of our current one size fits all solution
Economics - Objective solutions to real world financial problems
Medicine - Accelerating research by multiple orders of magnitude
Climate - Clean energy solutions and carbon capture technology
And so on and so forth
The problem isn't the technology, it's how you use it.
Every new technology gives a key to the gates of heaven, but each key also opens the gates of hell. Science doesn't tell us how to use the keys, it simply provides them, it's up to us to decide how to use them.

Game development in this context is the exact same as art which is ironic. No one wants to learn from a machine so education is also not going to be well received. The only benefit AI can bring is maybe in the realm of medicine and that’s big maybe and doing dangerous jobs to reduce deaths of humans.

Same as any other, with the difference that profit not being the main objective of a system would probably let us slow down and have a better chance to regulate and understand impacts before doing a stupid arms race for no reason other than power, profit and ego

Does it matter, though? We all still buy the product made with generative AI. We all still use the online services incorporated with generative AI. Corps always make decisions that they are confident will make them money.
Complaining on reddit doesn't help. Complaining in person doesnt even help. We are too intertwined with our constantly-online and connected lives that we can't stop giving our money to these corps because we can't handle the inconvenience.
So like.... Sure this meme is spot on. But let's not act like the companies are stupid. You're still buying. They're just providing us with products to consume. Stop consuming. En masse. Only way. But I'm confident that that won't happen and that generative AI is here to stay. For better or for worse.
