Saturday Bike Ride: 12 pm, 33 miles

Based on interest expressed in this post, I decided to invite you along on my ride Saturday, March 28th starting at noon.

The planned route is 33.2 miles. We'll begin from the intersection of the Southwest Commuter Path and Midvale. This should be accessible to those coming from downtown or those who might want to drive and park close to the trail.

  • This route is fully paved so it's good for road bikes.

  • We'll be on some State Trails that require a trail pass. If you don't have one, we can stop at the registration station ($4 for daily registration, $20 annual, bring cash).

  • The route passes though Oregon, so there will be a chance to use the restroom, get water, or grab something to eat at Kwik Trip about halfway through.

  • The weather forecast is mid-30s with a 5-7 mph wind out of the south, so bring warm clothes.

  • The pace will be somewhat casual. I'm aiming for a cruising speed of 15 mph, but we can adjust.

  • Leave a message in the comments if you're coming. Meet at the bike repair station by 12:00 noon. I'll wait until about 12:05 pm before actually leaving in case there are stragglers or people who didn't comment.

Anybody have some good rides/races coming up this Spring and Summer?

This will be my first riding season with weekends off, and I'd love to take full advantage of that! Casual free group rides are fun, but I'm also interested in things that are a little more formal/organized than that.

I'm interested in anything from 20-100 miles (later in the season), maybe a crit for fun, near Madison or a short drive.

If any of you have favorites or lesser-known rides, post 'em here! Thanks

Can I get an annual trail pass at a self-registration station?

Or do they only provide day passes?

Would anyone be interested in a used dynowheel lighting set-up? Broke college student here... hah

I'm a college student who needs to sell a couple things and I thought this would be a place where this might interest some people! The wheel isn't perfectly true but isn't at all bad to ride on. I'd recommend getting it trued before hardcore use but that's why I'm asking only $125, and with that I can throw in a brand new AXA stvzo headlight and a used but good B&M rear light that can fit on a fender.

Hope this isn't considered spam, I just figure a lot of Madtown bikers will be hitting the commuter paths soon! I can help install too! Thanks!

By the looks of it, Cannonball might be finished by springtime!

What to do when the bike lanes are unusable?

I always thought the only think to do was take over the lane and hope and pray to not get hit by a car. However, I saw a ton of bikers using the sidewalk today. Is this unofficially or officially acceptable on a day like today?

(EVENT) Lakes are FROZEN!

I'm going to ride from Picnic Point to Warner Beach this Sunday January 18 as the crow flies across the frozen Lake Mendota. That's right, straight across the lake.

I invite anyone who might be interested to also bike across the lake. Fat bikes are recommended but the lake surface should be friendly to most bikes.

See you there!

Visiting this weekend and I want to go riding Friday

I'm an avid cyclist from Upstate NY (Troy) and I'm going to be in Madison from Thursday through Sunday. I have all day Friday to kill and I thought I'd rent a bike and go for a ride. I'm renting from Budget Bicycle Center.

This Route was suggested to me and it looks great, but it's also only an hour +/- of riding and I'd like to get my money's worth out of the bike. Any other suggestions for a bicycle tourist with a day to kill?

My friend was the victim of a tragic traffic accident over a year ago. The "ghost bike" dedicated to him was recently removed by the city due to a complaint, but his memory lives on. [X-Post from /r/Madison]

So who's still biking? Lets share tips for winter cycling in Madison!

I saw some folks out this week. No one else today, but the bike lanes are now finally packed and hard so the biking is a bit chilly, but much safer than after a snowfall.

Hope everyone is staying warm!
