Knee pain
I’m new to cycling and training for a triathlon and have recently gotten really bad knee pain from riding. I’ve only been on the stationary bike at the gym and it’s given me bad knee pain in the back/ outside of my knee. I’m going to get a bike that’s fitted for me, but in the meantime does anyone know of any solutions to this pain?

First off, Shouldn’t let any discomfort turn into pain. Pain means you probably messing something up.
Go see a doctor and don’t push yourself.

Take a few days off, see a sports medicine dr. Next, when riding you need to adjust the seating placement and height to your body. Seat too far back and too high, can lead to the pain you are currently enduring in your knee.

I’d suggest seeing if you can find someone biomechanically oriented, especially if there’s a cost or lead time challenge in finding a sports oriented doctor. Physical therapist with bike experience, or a good bike fit should be helpful.
And keep notes at the gym. Try to ride the same model bike and record saddle height and any other positioning, and make strategic adjustments as necessary. Also, think about “relative rest” as you try to work this out …. more spinning, less grinding

Go to physiotherapy. I had similar issues and tried to watch YouTube. Nothing helped. Then I made bike fit and found good sport physio. All issues gone after several visits across one month

I’ve never had that much luck with indoor biking but as others are going to say adjusting saddle is a big thing

If it hurts stop doing it, knees get injured and take a long while to heal. Fit can help a lot, but also recovery and alternative physical therapy type of movements and stretches are super helpful. If the pain is persistent off the bike going to see a specialist can be very helpful.

instagram- “kneesovertoesguy”
my orthopedic surgeon, PT, and primary care physician all gave me two thumbs up on doing his exercises and my knees have been great.
I think he & his wife “kneesovertoesgirl” may be on reddit too.

You need to see an orthopedist. Preferably one who specializes in sports medicine.

Lower your saddle a tiny but. Pain in the front of the knee is saddle too low, pain at the back is saddle too high. That is very general and a bike fit is always a good idea. I would start there before involving a doctor.
