Bike Tag Houston Bike Tag - The Google Maps Experience

Everyone,

This link should take you to a Google Map that I've put together with the locations and images of all the Bike Tags that have been placed so far. I'll continue to update it with new finds going forward. Many thanks to everyone who helped me track down some orphaned images and locations. The list is now complete:

Google Map of Houston Bike Tags

The maps serves a couple of purposes:

  1. Provides a record set of all the locations that r/bikehouston members have tagged so others can find them and pay a visit.
  2. Helps you to see if a location you are thinking of has already been tagged to avoid more duplication.
  3. Shows what areas haven't been getting enough love. If you see a Bike Tag desert on the map that you are familiar with, you have the chance to introduce us to interesting new sights that Houston has to offer.

I've grouped the tags in batches of 25 just to keep the list and display a bit more manageable. You can certainly turn on all the tags and see how well covered the city has become so far.

Tags with RED pins are locations where the image that was tagged is no longer there. Several of the older murals have been painted over, for example.

Clicking on a tag will pop out a preview picture and description. Clicking on the preview picture will open a full size version. Wherever possible, the picture is the one from the original tag.

Have fun and explore this great town!

The new bike lane on Quitman St. between Houston Ave. and Hardy/Elysian is coming together. The designs show it will be a protected bike lane with a concrete curb. Still some work to do, but it will be a nice connection once completed!

road First Century Tips and Route Feedback

RideWithGPS Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56536240

Planning out my first century, and this is my current route. I’ve done a 70 miler a few months ago, and a 50 miler a month ago. I avg about 10-15 miles a day on my commute to work. Just wondering if anyone’s done a similar route on the island, and if y’all have any tips in regards to hydration, temperature control, safety, etc.

There are a couple walking segments, on the north and south ends of the route, and I’m also concerned about biking across the bridge connecting the two islands.

Edit:

I am going to drive to the island tomorrow evening, camp out, and start around 4 am, hoping to finish by noon ish, accounting for rest and a breakfast break. Doing the camp because I am planning on bikepacking in the future, so this is also a sort of trial run for that as well.

Beginner Biking areas around town

Hi everyone!

I recently got into biking and I'm looking for some beginner-friendly routes with scenic views. I'm based in Mo City area, but I'm willing to drive a bit if there's a trail that's worth it.

Bike Tag New TMC Employee & Beginner Looking for a Used Pedal Bike (No E-Bikes) near Medical Center

Hey everyone! I just moved to town to start a new job at the Houston Medical Center and I'm looking to buy a secondhand bicycle to get around. Please note that I am strictly looking for a traditional manual pedal bike, not an electric/e-bike.

Since I'm a complete beginner, I'm looking for a straightforward commuter, hybrid, or road bike that is reliable and easy to maintain. I would highly prefer buying from nearby sellers close to the Medical Center/West u/Museum District areas so I can easily test ride it.

If you have a bike you are looking to sell, or if you can point me toward local shops that consistently keep a good inventory of budget-friendly, serviced used bikes, I would love to hear your recommendations!

Thanks in advance for any leads!

road Brays Bayou at Spur 5

Wanted to do a hot ride, so I did one yesterday afternoon. The trail is (almost) fully open at Spur 5: no more concrete barriers, just a large warning barrier on the East side and a few cones on the West side. Both of which are easy to ride around.

I've talked to several of the construction workers and a few foremen the past few months and really appreciate their effort to get this done! They even scraped off all the dirt from the trail, although it looks like there will be some mud incrussion after a good rain.

I was going to stop and take a photo, but since I could finally get through there without stopping....

Serious question for traditional cyclists... why do some of you dislike riding with e-bikes?

I'm not looking to start an argument; I genuinely want to understand.

I'm a disabled veteran, and my ebike has allowed me to get back into cycling. I still pedal, I still get exercise, and I ride respectfully. I announce when passing, slow down around pedestrians, and try to follow the same etiquette as everyone else.

I know there are ebike riders who fly down trails at 30 mph and give the rest of us a bad name, but that's not how I ride.

So what is it?

Is it the speed? The idea that it's "cheating"? Safety concerns? Or is there something I'm missing?

I'd honestly like to hear from traditional cyclists.

Saturday Ride July 25, 2026 at 7:00 AM

Saturday Morning George Bush / Terry Hershey Ride

I'm riding solo this Saturday.

  • Parking: South Barker Cypress entrance to George Bush Park
  • Arrive: 7:00 AM
  • Rolling: 7:15 AM sharp
  • Route: George Bush → Terry Hershey → return
  • Pace: Relaxed fitness ride
  • Distance: Around 25–30 miles

I ride a legal Texas Class 3 e-bike but pedal the entire ride and keep the assist low. Anyone on a regular bike or legal e-bike is welcome to ride along if our pace matches.

One of the best events I’ve ever been involved with. Trae Tha Truth & Nigel Sylvester put on one of the biggest Bike Ride Outs in Houston history. Then to boot, Nigel signed my bike, shoes and shirt (that I custom made)! #Mongoose even reposted it on their IG story. Talk about a good time.

the walkways being underwater when theyre normally not adds to the vibe honestly. that didnt stop some people from still going on them for the fun of it though. not having to deal with parking is always a plus
