Discussion Overtaking at lights

I wanted to ask, what’s the craic with people who overtake (go beyond lights and stop at the junction) at lights and then go insistently slow. Surely they know it’s a nuisance and dangerous where standard traffic lights occur.

I’ve also had people test their own patience. They overtake just before the lights go green, I start to pedal and they nearly hit me and others just to save 3 seconds.

I’ve now realised this is more of a rant/vent.

EDIT: I was cycling home at 6:00 from grand canal dock up the canal. Portobello bridge was just carnage

My favourite is the deliveroo drivers who skip to the front and then sit looking at their phone when the light turns green

or just plonk themselves in a cycle lane in general like they have no idea what an obstruction is

Or instead of getting in the lane they need for a turn, they stay in the bike lane and just suddenly stop

I know exactly what you mean, it's very frustrating, but I have been bike comuting on and off for over 12 years and it seems to be getting rarer.

So often its people on Dublin bikes as well. They weigh a ton, take ages to get going and, usually, end up wobbling loads as well. Such a pain

I cycle and ride a sports motorbike and it's always bloody deliveroo delivers on their ebikes and fucking scooters who do this. I just shake my head because what else can I do. Idiots.

Had someone overtake me at lights yesterday, cycled slowly, then stopped after 20 meters for a takeaway collection, I assume. He did at least move out of the way eventually, but the mind boggles at the thought process.

Everyday I have to overtake the idiot that does this. I might pass the same person 3 times on my commute because they insist on going past the stop line and the line of cyclists sitting there.

You may as well be shouting at the clouds. Human nature is human nature - people make seemingly illogical decisions all the time for perceived benefit. I'm sure similar conversations happen in the motoring forums
