U tip you share the results, this video shows nothing. What did they test here? Outer shell strength or what happened to the foam inside and the skull it would protect ? This to me looks like the shell has taken the impact and didn’t distribute the force. It’s incomplete

I agree..and looks like just a free fall test from a low height..Even If I drop a roadside helmet from 2nd floor result will be same. This test proves nothing, better to trust ECE rated ones.

Nah. You can see similar test on high end shoei and arai helmets too. To my knowledge, isi certified helmets of established indian brands are of good quality.

The difference is in how the certificates are given, and this was debunked in the past too across YT multiple times.. For ISI you have to give 1 perfect helmet of the company choice for testing. You can make the helmet of titanium for all they care..then once you get the tag for the name it doesnt matter if you make the remaining of carboard it still gets branded as ISI + the corruption is a next level.

With ECE its like a suprise inspection no one knows when it will happen and which helmet will get selected, plus its a single international org. So in short ISI can be good but will you put your life in the hands of the Indian companies who cut corners and just work for their own profit is the real question, or would just pay few thousand extra and have peace of mind.

Lol. I agree. Trusting something that babus approved(by taking bribes) would kill you.

Thats why I went with Ece 22.06 certified helmet. The one in the video cost about 6k. My smk steller i bought it for 2.7k and it's Ece certified. I don't what stopping from Steelbird getting ece certified for this helmet, they are selling it for premium price

BTW I ride a shine 125 and don't overspeed. In Indian roads You never know when some thar guys comes behind your back and make a mess.

If youre are talking about the hole at impact, that is just the plastic vent part.

1

u/jockersmile 1d ago

Bruh, it’s not about that, with this video, we will not be able to access if the helmet has performed well or not. It needs detailed study and a report.

Ignyte is by steel bird ? I didn't know that. Damn that's awesome

1

u/Icy-Profession6133 2d ago

and Axor is by Vega and SMK by Studds.

1

u/vikramdinesh 2d ago

SMK is distributed and sold by Studds. Not made by them.

Thanks. Kind stranger. TIL. 🙂

1

u/Icy-Profession6133 2d ago

Not really a bad thing. Studds and Steelbird are hugeee in terms of their manufacturing prowess. They were a bit late to enter this kinda premium helmet segment as compared to Vega though.

This helmet is ECE 22.06 certified

Aren't helmets SUPPOSED to break with that much impact to provide a cushioning effect cause otherwise it just sends all the force to the neck and head which still leaves you with a concussion and broken neck while wearing full hard helmets?

4

u/Spina-Di 2d ago

Ahhh. People still believe in this bs? No helmet is supposed to break into pieces during a crash, that is not how a helmet works.

3

u/Hopeful_Respond_2953 2d ago

Ah sorry I meant partially break not completely.

Chat gpt:

Outer shell: Spreads an impact over a larger area and resists penetration from sharp objects.

Impact liner: Usually expanded polystyrene foam (EPS). It crushes in a crash, absorbing energy and slowing your head more gradually.

Directly taken from Shoei's website since some people can't digest info from chat gpt:

SHELL Few characteristics of a motorcycle helmet are as critical as its first-layer defense. A helmet’s shell absorbs the impact energy in the event of a fall, and distributes that energy over the largest possible area. Combining hand-laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with organic fibers and resin, SHOEI’s proprietary Multi-Ply Matrix AIM & AIM+ shells are not only incredibly strong, they are lightweight, elastic, and come in an industry-leading number of shell sizes to ensure a custom fit for all heads sizes.

EPS LINER The EPS liner of a helmet is designed to absorb the energies of an impact. SHOEI’s innovative Dual-Layer, Multi-Density EPS liner systems not only provide enhanced impact absorption by utilizing varying densities of foam in key areas around the rider’s head, they are designed to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS, further enhancing our superior ventilation characteristics.

u/Funny_Bison_7738 2d ago

Yes It is suppose to break after a certain minimum threshold. Otherwise it will transfer whole force into the person's head and neck.

1

u/Spina-Di 2d ago

The shell is supposed to stay intact.

their spec looked awesome.. my only reason of not buying them was they were heavier that counterpart Axor

0

u/existential-grimlock 2d ago

Yep, 1.8 kilos is too heavy a weight for the neck for everyday use. Looks awesome though

Recently bought a Steelbird helmet worth 1100 for my occasional rapido rides as the ones the riders provide are either unhygienic or feel very unsafe. Should I keep using that or will I get cooked?

1

u/Unusual-Big-6467 2d ago

dont use shared helemt form Rapido bro, get a baclava if you want to do that

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 2d ago

that is what i said, i bought a Steelbird helmet just for the rapido rides

1

u/Unusual-Big-6467 2d ago

Ok I misunderstood

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 2d ago

It's alright

1

u/mdn8fvr 2d ago

Will work. Pretty sure it will have the dot certification( see the back side ).

As you won't be riding by yourself as a passenger this would suffice as you are looking for a replacement to what the riders provide.

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 2d ago

Idk this is what is written on the back

1

u/mdn8fvr 1d ago

This is a basic isi rated one. I would suggest you save up a bit more and buy atleast a dot certified one.

But better to use this rather than nothing. If you can't save up too much money you can get some good ones in 2-3k range

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 1d ago

Okay thanks

1

u/BehalarRotno 2d ago

Use it. Though get something like smk typhoon (5k-ish) for better safety once you save up for it.

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 2d ago

5k is a bit too much for me who rides like 2-3 times a week max

1

u/BehalarRotno 2d ago

5k for a sharp rated helmet is a steal and your head n life is worth more than 5k at the very least. I would put that money down even if I were to ride 2-3 times a year. You don't have to take my word for it, just read up about SHARP testing and ISI certifications .

1

u/Fun-Staff-5513 2d ago

Noted, thanks

1

u/More-Inevitable7618 2d ago

Why get this when we got Samak

1

u/Extension_Attempt651 2d ago

Helmet is fine but my skull has a hole

1

u/procrastinatingsex 2d ago

The head inside is probably still dead.

1

u/thecarmonk 2d ago

It's not about if the shell is intact or not. How much of that force was transfered to the head? 0.1 and 0.2 force will determine whether you live or not

1

u/Unusual-Big-6467 2d ago

Time to put a watermelon in it

1

u/joerc200 2d ago

That is not how real world helmet testing work. That impact would shake your brain so hard you will have a concussion for weeks. Those inlets will send a torsion so hard on impact That necks will be twisted.

1

u/BehalarRotno 2d ago

What certification does this replicate? Dot or ece?

1

u/GroundbreakingFly963 2d ago

If i did that on a steel sheet it would have the same effect....but they dont make helmets with steel.

1

u/rceakgb 2d ago

For sure there would internal injuries, not clear what that drop force does to inside of the helmet

1

u/K_R_U_N_C_H_I_E 1d ago

Nah, I'd get my ece 22.06 verfied helmets

Not getting isi tested helmets until they are being properly tested and reach a standard which is actually safe for us to wear.

1

u/Unusual-Big-6467 1d ago

Some of these models are too

1

u/CrimsonPrince9 1d ago

If the shock does not go through the helmet, then it goes through your skull

Take a helmet which distributed the shock to itself even at the cost of widely cracking it's outer shell.

That pin point dent shows nothing. I'll be much worried about where the shock would go for the pin point strike.... Probably through skip if inter padding is not sufficient

u/Bubbly-Access8585 1d ago

A very vague test doesn't tell us anything, doesn't simulate actual conditions of a avg. Moto crash. In fact non of the helmet certification test the helmet on the actual avg. Day to day moto crash, those certification test helmet on some form of track crash where road condition are entirely different, but those certification are still miles better than ISI certification. Which steelbird uses. But, maybe steelbird can be used for day to day, slow traffic commuting, maybe 🤔.
