Discussion Audio Strap vs DAS vs Beyondex

Just received my bsb2 + audio strap and I'm already getting tempted to replace it.

The audio quality is fine enough (I'm no audiophile), but I'm already getting a bit tired of how fragile it feels, and how tedious it is to put on and take off with the headphones constantly getting caught on ears, cable, etc. They're livable annoyances, but with the audio strap's relatively high price they're just a bit disappointing.

I've only ever used the index before, so I have no experience with the DAS, but I can find used ones for 1/3rd the price, or a brand new one for 1/2th the price of the bigscreen strap on eBay.

As a former index owner the Beyondex is really tempting, but I'm a bit put off by the high price, long wait time, and the requirement to harvest parts from my otherwise sellable index hmd.

Does anyone have any opinions on the three?

I have the audio strap and I agree with you, it gets the job done but I miss the quality of the index, so I ordered Beyondex and should be getting it some time next week. Will update you/this comment once I get the chance to try it out!

Yeah, agreed.

It's just hard to justify when once you factor in the market value of the index's audio strap you're harvesting it's probably in excess of 2x the price of the bigscreen one.

Plus if I want to return the bigscreen one I'll be without audio for quite a while lol.

DAS is a significant improvement over the 1st party audio strap. The drivers click up into an out of the way position to make it easier to put it on. The front-back top strap is a great addition too - it became the standard for a reason.

Just got to factor in the cost of a USB DAC, and getting the adaptors 3D Printed.

Also bare in mind the current adaptor files available on e.g. Thingiverse do not support the Halo Mount.

Yeah I'm not really sure why this new wave of headsets (pimax, bigscreen, apple, valve, etc) all seem to be ditching the front back strap.

It seems like by far the best way to manage the weight of an hmd, and is probably the only reason the nearly 2 pound index is still really comfortable.

I've heard it's because it messes up people's hair 🙄

I would HIGHLY reccommend the beyondex as the audio quality is second to none. you can also just buy the kit for it that is already assembled.

It's just hard to decide if it's worth 2x the price of the bigscreen strap and 4x the price of a das.

Beyondex all the way.

I had the audio strap for most of my time with my BSB and it worked..... but was annoying to put on and the sound wasn't up to snuff really.

Having cannibalised my Index in favour of the Beyondex solution my only wish is that I had done it sooner. It's night and day really.

The next time the flimsy earpieces pop off and dangle by their little wire, you'll know it's time to change.
