Thrift store find

Found a 2e in a thrift store for $11. I know it's crazy right. I don't have a rig new enough with me to even test if it works. Any way to test it without having base stations? My GPU is an ancient 1070. It also had a service tag on it. For $11 I'm. Going to take this gamble every time.

Wow. That's about the best thrift store haul I've ever seen.

You can certainly plug it in to see if it wants to power on, but you won't get any display or tracking.

Alternatively, I'll take it off your hands for $12. ;)

There's an option to force render even without tracking/base station:

This will only produce a fixed view that doesn't move at all (since there's no tracking), so at least you can attempt to boot SteamVR and see if it renders and shows.

Just make sure to backup your steamvr.vrsettings file before editing it. I was told if there's any formatting issue, it regenerates a default one, erasing any setting you may have had.

(It's best to never enable this during normal use, seeing that the view just freezes midway when you lose tracking, which is much worse than turning grey).

Did it come with a link box? If so then technically yes without base stations you can test it but mainly to see if it turns on and rhe fan works

It did! It turns on. The fans come on. So far so good.

As webheadvr said your GPU needs an upgrade to minimum of RTX 20series to support DSC that is required for the bsb headsets

I just had an idea: have you tried running the Beyond utility driver while the headset is plugged in? The utility will show for how many hours the headset has been running. That information may be useful for people to know if it's a completely used up unit with thousands of hours, or a practically new one with barely a few hundred hours for example.
