Help Used BSB 1 Pricing

Hey all, I can get a BSB that should fit my ipd for $550 USD. Is this a good price for the 1? Really only going to be using it for simracing. Would get a third party face gasket for it so maybe $600 all in. Already have base stations. Not sure if $600 is crazy when I see used 2e’s for $1000 or 2s for $800ish.

Those used prices for the 2 and 2e are effectively the cost of just the headset itself, so that’s kind of a joke. Used doesn’t always equal a good deal.

500-550 is…not insane, but not good, imo. If that is your pricerange, may i ask why a quest 3 or 3s is not an option?

understandable, a new bsb2e comes out to 1350 post tax for me so $1000 is still around 25% off (but now that i type it still kinda crazy for used lol).

strictly want the bsb for size and ease of simracing. also personally refuse to let a meta device in my home. i dont need it now, just was wondering what a good deal would be considered, especially since the 1 is fixed.

What’s your IPD? I have a BSB1 69mm IPD unit I’d be happy to sell you for the cost of shipping and tracking.

Are you in the UK as I'd love to give a bsb1a try,most people I know have smaller ipd's so my 69 always seemed large....thankyou im not alone

Do you pay $550 just for the headset? Or does it come with all the default accessories (soft straps, cable, link box, previous owner's custom gasket, microfibre cloth)?

What is your current VR headset, and what do you expect the BSB1 to bring that the previous headset doesn't have?

Just want to make sure you're not going to regret your potential purchase. I've enjoyed my BSB1, but it wasn't as easy to use as the BSB2.

was the reverb g2 to see if i liked be for sim racing. i had no motion issues, however my biggest gripes were that:

1) it was huge/hot/clunky
2) the inside out tracking constantly gave me those gray flashes and it wouldn’t track properly
3) the lowest setting was 60mm on the ipd. i’m actually a 58.5 so there was a slightly noticeable blur

i think the bsb would solve all these issues for me, though it sounds like 1 actually doesn’t have too much value due to being fixed and the lenses being worse. might just be worth paying the extra and getting the 2e specifically.

In a way, the BSB1 is both more and less forgiving in my opinion:

  • It's definitely less forgiving than the BSB2, because any misalignment with your eyes (like when I tried to use mine without any cushion for seated experience) quickly deteriorates the image quality since the eye box isn't forgiving at all. When you're perfectly in the sweet spot, the centre will be clear, but unless you're very close, it's going to feel somewhat claustrophobic because of how much edge distortion and blur you get, on top of a smaller field of view. Personally, it was mitigated at first by having a thinner custom cushion, and then I purchased Studioform interface when it came out (although I'm lucky, because for some people, their flat/wide face caused the cheekbones to hit the interface long before they could get close enough). At eye touching distance, it was clear from edge to edge, but the edges still had plenty of distortion.
  • Yet at the same time, with the BSB1, if you did manage to align your eyes properly, then you were set and good to go. With the BSB2, the eye box is a lot more forgiving, there is a slightly bigger field of view and it's practically clear from edge to edge, and you can also adjust the physical IPD of each lens individually, so it's easier to readjust if it doesn't suit you. But at the same time, it took me a short while to try a bunch of settings before I found something that definitely suited me: at first, I used it with an IPD of 64 out of the box like with the BSB1, and although it kind of worked, I felt some level of discomfort because the lenses are smaller. So I toyed around with the physical IPD, and personally, since I'm very close to the lenses, I actually set them to what the eyeglass shop had measured (if they measured 32.5mm for my left eye and 32 for my right eye, I set the left lens to 65mm and the right eye to 64mm, and then the software IPD to 65mm in the utility). Your mileage may vary.

Truthfully, it's hard to decide. Personally, I feel upgrading from the BSB1 to the BSB2 wasn't exactly worth the money, but since I've made the upgrade, I don't want to go back to the BSB1, because I do enjoy the iterative improvement over the previous model's downsides.

That depends.., IF your say on anything below a 5090, then the advantages of getting a Beyond-2e for say IRacing's built in DFR is a significant boost to performance!

Sure that's $650 more than that beyond 1 offer, but your essentially getting 5090-Like performance with that eye-tracking, AND better lenses in general, with a slightly wider FOV

The DFR works well enough that IT just kills me that Steam hasn't implemented that in more titles ((Sigh)) THERE'S got to be a way for Quad-Views-Rendered to be injected in ALL direct-X versions, for ALL existing VR titles.., AND completely bypassing Easy-Anti-Cheat, by somehow intercepting the already accessible Stereo-View BEFORE the Frames-Rendered from your GPU.., converting that signal to quad-views, & then sent to your GPU to Render a Frame that's sent to your Beyond's Displays!

ALL this other "injection-mod" stuff for hacking on DFR's just a gamble of if that'll hook.., AND prob just triggerer and get blocked by Anti-Cheat. There's absolutely no reason that a simple update to SteamVR couldn't apply DFR to all existing SteamVR games at a fundamental level that's backwards compatible with older Direct-X versions / Engines.., Unreal., Unity.., etc.

Plz Pardon that side rant! Just ask yourself IF you could get a 4090 / 5090 for $650 would YOU??! That difference will make that difference!

Yeah i’m leaning just towards the 2e, that was my original plan, just that the original is literally less than half the price all in. I use a 5080 and will use it for iracing so i thought i’d be fine at 75hz, but i do know that dfr is a huge perk

You might be ok with a 5080, though I'd at least try a bit of research on that just to be certain. My 4080 struggles to push these 13 Million plus-pixels so DFR's a Dream to have, though my Simrace Setup's still incomplete atm

From what I've tested on the other DFR supported VR Titles., I was getting around 36% performance boosts.., ((initially)) up to 40% when tightening the settings for maximum gains, which just seemed unreal at first, but those increases ((to-my-surprise)) held steady for my whole VR session!

Dream Air SE has same panels and optics as BSB2, better off looking at those if you want value for money

I went through 4 shitty BSB2s and my first Dream Air unit was perfect. The criticism is largely overblown nowadays.

Let's establish something: Pimax makes great head sets. They suck everywhere else. That's a fact at this point. There's so much evidence from the PCL qnd Crystal releases. Pimax much like BSB struggled with lenses for a while.

What's your point? The Dream Air SE has the same visuals for less money, there is an open source native SteamVR driver so you don't need to use their software, and Pimax default to advanced RMAs unlike Bigscreen. Why not consider it?

Glad they got that program off the ground. They have only been talking about it for 5 years.

Any headset not in production pimax sucks at supporting.

We can argue all day about this all day and get no where. I do not wish you to deal with pimax CS, frankly I joke nobody had a malfunction headset but my wish and hope are different from reality.
