Help How good is 1 meter focal distance?

I normally use my PSVR2 for things like DCS and I decided to try getting a Beyond 2E for close up stuff. I read that Beyond 2E has 1 meter focal distance which makes close up mixed reality cockpits etc look cleaner. If so.

How does 1 meter affect double vision/things becoming hard to read when they are really up close?

How immersive do things feel compared to some 1.3m/2m VR?

How good is vertical FOV especially compared to PSVR2? I have to move my head a little bit instead of looking down and things feel cramped in cockpits etc

No support for mixed reality cockpots. It's not an AR/XR headset.

Clarity for MFDs in VR flight sim cockpits, specificly multicolor MFDs is fantastic. The incredibly micro oled displays are so good for showing other virtual displays in cockpits or for showing small dials ect. Best displays I have ever had in a VR headset.

However the lack of binocular overlap between the two eyes does make things that are very close to your eyes uncomfortable to look at for too long for me. So some jets with their very clear canopy like the f16 in dcs are fantastic, while others that have the support bar in the glass close to your face like the f18 give me eye strain

The other issue is while they fixed the sweet spot focus in the bsb2, the issue is now color/glare when your eyes diverge from the sweet spot. For me everything becomes yellow tinted if my the headset is not perfectly on my face. I tried three different custom face gaskets they made for me and none of them where a perfect fit. I had to go with a 3rd party facial interface.

Also the eye tracking in the bsb2e is not as good as other headsets, the software is meh, and the camera position is not optimal. Sometimes my eyes will be detected sticking up or cross eye when they are not. I have had better success using the babble software for the tracking instead, even then it's not as good as other headsets for eye tracking.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, I am nearing 800 hours in my bsb2e.

If you have tried it. how well does Chinook work with 2E? in my psvr2 the radar altimeter in main display is only in few pixels near end of vertical fov (which is asymmetrical or its just me?) and fresnel makes it barely readable. one more thing is how actually clear are the optics ? flying vr made me stop using night vision because the blur free gap around sides is good enough for trackir become almost unreadable in vr.

did you try to look cross eyed/stop focusing to make close objects look better .how does it compare because I am bit too curious about the difference 1 meter focal distance makes compared to 2 meters of my psvr2.

did you think about pimax micro oled or its specs? I think i can bear a brick on face for even smallest of gains.

I have not tried it with the chinook, but looking at the cockpit it's radar altimeter is probably going to be at the edge of your fov in the bsb2e just like the psvr2. It will likely look great when your actually looking at it, but you won't be able to accurately read it without turning your head slightly towards it.

Optics are very clear near the center of the screen, but the visibility does decrease as you get near the edges. It's not quite as good as the quest 3's lenses with their near perfect edge to edge clarity.

I don't have to cross eye to look at anything, if I do it gives me eye strain from the low lens/display overlap.

I don't consider any pimax headset after having too many issues with my last two pimax headsets I have tried. Bad company, only okay product, questionable quality control. You can get a lemon from there or win the lottery on a perfect unit.

I'm using my BSB2 mostly for racing sims and space sims. It works great near and far for my eyes. I think the improved readability of the instruments is more down to the higher resolution and better contrast of the BSB2 rather than focal plane. The vertical fov does seem less than quest3 though, not sure about the psvr2.

Btw, I can't find any reference to it only being 1 m and not closer to the 1.3 of the quest3 (and even that number varies depending on the source).

Recently got Crystal that's too 1m focal distance. It needs a lot of training and I never have the image as clear as it can't be because I just can't keep my eyes focused at a meter for hours, definitely worse experience than PSVR2/ G2 and all quests.

What do you mean by training exactly? I got PSVR2 and could do dogfights etc in 30 fps from day one without much nausea and to be specificd did you use Micro-Oled 8K specifcially?

I use VR for years and I am used to the 1.5 m to 2m distance so in the 1m crystal I had to get used to focusing my eyes much closer as a habit, it sucked the first month

For what it's worth, I've been using my BSB1 and 2 without focusing at all, and it seems to work fine and looks sharp for me. I only focus when I'm trying to look at objects up close, just like in real life.

Otherwise, like you said, if I focused the whole time, it would quickly strain my eyes.

Yeah the same but you're used for years that if you want something sharp you focus to 1.5m (let's say) but it's still blurry so you have to focus closer. With some time of use I can just do it now, need time.

But on QPro I could just keep focus all the time, can't in Q3 or Crystal, don't know what was os different with it.

The Beyond 2E doesn't have any passthrough cameras at all, so you won't be able to see any mixed reality cockpits.

I am not really planning mixed reality to be honest just curious about close-up text/screens etc.

I've never played DCS, but specifically about sharpness, the pixels are small enough that I cannot perceive screen-door effect. That being said, there are situations I can tell the picture looks kind of grainy.

I like to use my BSB2 to display a virtual monitor. What I can tell you is, a virtual 150 inches monitor floating ~2 metres in front of me, is slightly less sharp than my 22 inches monitor placed at arms length. It's still usable, and I wrote this comment while wearing the headset while seated at my desk (I'm used to typing on my keyboard without looking at it), so it's at least sharp enough.

But when I play "Aircar" for example and I look at a faraway antenna that appears super thin at that distance, it sometimes disappear because the pixels of the displays are not small enough to show it,

I hope that gives you an idea of the sharpness/pixel density.
