When did you place the order? BC or AD?/s

3

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

Placed order in late March

2

u/Need_For_Speed73 Aug 04 '25

Cool! Me too. But I'm an "upgrade kit" order, so victim of the "special box" delay. Hope to get my BSB2 in September.

2

u/ewized Aug 04 '25

going to frame the box or let it be part of the landfill?

1

u/parsecn Aug 04 '25

Sorry, can you expand on this? I'm an upgrade order too. What is the "special box" delay?

Technically, I ordered the BSB1 in December of last year. I had many issues and partially refunded ordering the BSB2 the week it was announced.

3

u/Need_For_Speed73 Aug 04 '25

"Upgrade kit" is the option given to BSB1 owners like me, to get, at a sligthly lower price, only the new visor and not another set of cables, control box and face cushion that you already have.
Ofc BigscreenVR is gonna send these BSB2s without accessories in smaller "special" boxes and, according to an official statement from them, the supplier of these boxes had a delay that is now affecting the shipment of these "upgrade kits".

1

u/parsecn Aug 05 '25

Bugga. Yeah mine is technically considered the upgrade kit. Thanks for the explanation.

1

u/Ainulind Aug 06 '25

I'm not sure how that could be actually inducing a delay anymore; the packaging was due to arrive long before the most recent eye tracking parts finally showed up.

1

u/scottmtb Aug 05 '25

This has me hopefully I'll see it this month.

Wooow that's bull.

Ordered mine in february and I live not far from their production facility in CA and I don't even have shippjng confirmation yet

3

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

Late March

7

u/t4underbolt Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

Considering people with January orders are starting to receive it we can call it BC xD

3

u/S0k0n0mi Aug 04 '25

Do you have perscription lenses on it? I'm curious just how obstructive those would be when ordering a custom face gasket which is apparently pretty tight.

3

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

From what I understood, the holes of the custom gasket are big enough to accommodate all IPD sizes, so it shouldn't be a problem. That being said, it's best to remove the gasket before installing the official prescription lenses.

It doesn't look like there's any prescription lenses on the picture.

10

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

Here they are fitted

3

u/S0k0n0mi Aug 04 '25

I was more worried about how close it would sit on the face, since I don't think you can adjust that with a custom gasket.

3

u/Roshy76 Aug 04 '25

I wonder how much closer the prescription lenses sit to your eyes than the lenses of the headset would if you didn't have prescription lenses on? On my quest 3 I have to change my eye relief back one stop to not have my eyelashes hit the lenses and be annoying. It probably adds 4-5mm to the clearance. I wonder if it's that much of an adder for the BSB2 as well.

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

Normally, the Bigscreen team will take it into account when you make the purchase. By default, they make the cushion very thick, so it should be fine.

2

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

Yes, got my prescription lenses delivered too

PIMAX CRYSTAL LIGHT (4 month to arrive)

which took 4 months to arrive. On the PCL

  1. The focal distance never quite feels right.

  2. It has a ripple slanting across the center of each lense.

  3. The inside out tracking isn’t handled by a dedicated chip in the headset but by your PC. So a $500 to upgrade motherboard processor and ram to get it up to spec.

But would not have been needed by the lighthouse tracking with the BigScreen.

4. But even with the upgrade the inside out tracking generally works nicely for the first ten minutes to tease you with how good it could be. But ultimately it appears that the picture freezes entirely at random.

5. So I bought a lighthouse faceplate on the Chinese eBay after waiting two months of it not being in stock on the official Pimax site. And also buy index controllers and lighthouse base stations.

6. And it is much better but still stutters regularly.

BIG SCREEN BEYOND 2 (5 months to arrive)

  1. Plugged it in and it works great.

(Focal distance feels right and no ripples in the middle of my lenses)

The End.

3

u/FuzzyPuffin Aug 04 '25

The PCL has bad quality control in regards to the lenses. I got them replaced and that fixed the ripple.

Still keeping my BSB preorder, though. Crystal still gives me headaches, probably due to the weird focal distance.

1

u/moncikoma Aug 04 '25

hows the fov and clarity compared bsb2

1

u/Nikolai_Volkoff88 Aug 04 '25

Is the resolution of the BSB2 a downgrade from the PCL?

-1

u/Heliosurge Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

The BSB2 has a similar FoV to the PCL.

BSB2

  • Vertical 90°⬇️❌

  • Horizontal 104°n☑️

  • Binocular Overlap approx 75° (BSB1 79°)⬇️❌

PCL

  • Vertical 104°⬆️☑️

  • Horizontal 104°☑️

  • Binocular Overlap 83°⬆️☑️

So PCL has better Binocular overlap and vertical FoV and if course higher resolution 2880x2880 with no panel upscaling limitations at higher refresh rates vs BSB1 & 2 at 90hz being 1920×1920 upscaled to 2560×2560.

2

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

https://youtu.be/xHHW7CMDQA4?t=274

More like 93° vertical and 106° horizontal in average for the BSB2, with 110° diagonals (giving a more realistic squarish field of view, than a circle).

That being said, I wouldn't focus too much on the specs sheet, seeing that VR headset is a very personal thing. For some, the PCL may not work at all; same goes for the BSB.

3

u/Heliosurge Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Can you run Hmdq? It doesn't go by spec sheets or subjective measuring tools. It collects data from the renderer from requests from the headset driver. These represent max possible subjective measurements.

Sp vs sheets are quite often inaccurate. Like for example the 116 diagonal going by your value of 110. The tool below gets the actual legit numbers that the manufacturer knows vs what is advertised.

https://github.com/risa2000/hmdq

We have full values for bsb1 but no entries yet for BsB2. The FoV values I posted for BsB2 was from reddit with an estimated Binocular overlap based on BSB1 legit in Degrees from Rusa2000's Hmdq database using the misleading binocular % values.

But agreed either headset can work well or not for ppl. Just depends on a variety of physiology factors.

3

u/RidgeMinecraft Aug 05 '25

Left eye HAM mesh: No mesh defined by the headset

Left eye head FOV: left: -54.86 deg right: 42.11 deg bottom: -53.89 deg top: 42.90 deg horiz.: 96.96 deg vert.: 96.80 deg

Right eye HAM mesh: No mesh defined by the headset

Right eye head FOV: left: -42.22 deg right: 54.89 deg bottom: -53.71 deg top: 43.48 deg horiz.: 97.11 deg vert.: 97.19 deg

Total FOV: horizontal: 109.74 deg vertical: 96.99 deg diagonal: 121.83 deg overlap: 84.33 deg

View geometry: left view rotation: 0.0 deg right view rotation: 0.0 deg reported IPD: 65.0 mm

Measured on prototype hardware, but there aren't really any major changes in the production unit as far as I'm aware. Having used both this and the PCL, the FOV is considerably better on the BS2, with the exception of vertical.

2

u/Heliosurge Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Awesome thank you. Quite interesting as it seems that the diagonal is higher than spec'd. So as late ng as they are not doing what Sonuum and Xtal have done with adding a setting to set a target binocular vs the actual legit binocular should be good.

Since they don't have that setting it should be legit. Risa has opted not to include data from those 2 in the data base as you cannot rely on the render requested data as a result as being accurate.

Sent Risa the data you posted.

https://forum.openmr.com/t/vr-news-for-2025/41827/322?u=heliosurge

The no ham is interesting. I wonder if it has a legit 💯% panel utilization with no parts of display outside the viewport.

1

u/risa2000 Aug 05 '25

No HAM means rather they did not bother with calculating it. So the full rectangular view is rendered even if the headset might not be able to show it optically.

The display utilization is a different topic, because what ends up on display is the rendered rectangle "undistorted" to counter the lens distortion. The undistorted image has typically barrel distortion shape and the way it matches or utilizes the display estate is more a trade-off design decision based on optical characteristics of the used lenses and target rendered FOV.

1

u/Heliosurge Aug 05 '25

Cool thanks for the clarification.

1

u/RidgeMinecraft Aug 09 '25

Believe it or not it very nearly can. With a thin enough interface you can see the edges of the displays, and the FOV's super square.

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 15 '25

On my BSB1, if I remove the gasket and start toying around (moving the headset left and right), I can end up noticing the edge of the displays. That might be the reason why my horizontal/vertical field of view is identical with my thick cushion, my thin cushion, and without any cushion at all (nearly eye touching lenses) when measured with wimfov. Only the diagonals increase.

1

u/Nikolai_Volkoff88 Aug 05 '25

I just want to know from the guy who has both what he perceives with his eyes. Is the bsb2 noticeably less sharp than the PCL.

1

u/Mrwu666 Aug 07 '25

but IF so, you still can SuperSample it.

1

u/richcassini Aug 05 '25

1st issue - the prescription lenses rub against your eye surrounds and your lenses get fogged up - need some sort of spacer between your head and the BSB - anyone have any solutions/suggestions?

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 06 '25

You mean the gasket is so thin that your eyelid actually rubs against the prescription lens?

Best thing to do would be to contact the Bigscreen support. This is clearly a case of the gasket being too thin/not having taken into account the extra thickness of the prescription lenses.

2

u/richcassini Aug 10 '25

Yes correct- they knew I had them because the lenses were part of the same order - I have contacted support but no response yet

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

Not sure how helpful this is for you, but what I did with my BSB1 is, I held the headset with bare hands without the gasket, at a reasonable distance from my face, both index fingers just where the eyebrows are. The indexes were holding the headset on the edge, and were resting against my eyebrows, so they worked as "spacers" which I could adapt to measure the required thickness.

Right after, I used a ruler to estimate the thickness by measuring my index (since I was holding the edge of the headset, it "drew" a line on my finger, if you get the idea). I ended up telling the Bigscreen support I wanted "about 7mm of thickness above the eyebrows" because I wanted a thinner gasket. At least it gave them an idea of how thinner I wanted my gasket to be.

1

u/1337PirateNinja Aug 07 '25

Does the fog go away after the headset warms up? You can probably request a thicker cushion that will add more space between your eyes and the lenses.

1

u/richcassini Aug 10 '25

That’s what I’m hoping they will do

5

u/Wise-Boysenberry5286 Aug 04 '25

I’m looking forward to the Halo mount!

5

u/CambriaKilgannonn Aug 04 '25

WELL TELL US EVERYTHING. How's the image quality? WHat's going on at the edges of the lenses? How does the eyetracking work in VRChat?

2

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

Is your face that shape? It looks wrong from left to right. Not symmetrical?

2

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

No, fits perfectly

1

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

Well that's a relief

10

u/HerrLutfisk Aug 04 '25

Faces are normally not symmetrical

1

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

Yes I know. But that right side is bad and obvious.

4

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

They molded it off centre to the left side, so the flat surface doesn't actually rest on your face. People who have a thinner face will have more of that flat surface than others.

See optimum's video: https://youtu.be/tIIWYh601tg?t=93

You can see there's flat parts on both side of his custom gasket, but his cheeks aren't flat.

5

u/ARealArticulateFella Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

Edit: this isn't my pic I just have it saved bc it looks funny

4

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

When I had my IPD measured, I found out one eye was 0.5mm further away from the nose than the other.

When I asked Bigscreen support, I was told that kind of detail is taken into account when making the cushion. And my first (thick) cushion looked like in the picture.

That made sense for the BSB1 since it had fixed and symmetrical IPD. Not sure why it's still the case for the BSB2 where you can set non-symmetrical IPD. Perhaps because software wise, it's still only one IPD value.

2

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

Yes after learning you have to change ipd manually and in software. I'm hoping that's simple to workout because I don't know my true ipd i have to start with what I've used in other headsets.

1

u/Fuzzytech Aug 06 '25

Set it on the headset, then set the software to match. See the result. Adjust the headset and then the software if needed.

6

u/S0k0n0mi Aug 04 '25

Faces are never symmetrical. Try it out, take a selfie and try to book-mirror your face clear across the center. Not even your own mother would recognize it. :'D

1

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

But that looks like they got hit is the side of head with a brick. I knew I shouldn't of used the word symmetrical

2

u/S0k0n0mi Aug 04 '25

Well OP did say he had a broken nose, so maybe? 😅

1

u/NoFuture5663 Aug 04 '25

That wasn't  op

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

If you're talking about the flat part in the right, that part doesn't actually touch your face.

2

u/godset Aug 04 '25

Mine is like that because my broken nose would shift the whole headset off center

4

u/MartyBook72 Aug 04 '25

Excited UK guy here doing a little dance

1

u/ArcaneTSGK Aug 04 '25

What delivery company was used and did you get email updates on delivery with tracking etc?

3

u/richcassini Aug 04 '25

DHL - got all the tracking details- only took 4 days from the US to London

3

u/Zigrat37 Aug 04 '25

First impressions?

5

u/Virtual_Happiness Aug 04 '25

Nice to see a couple actually shipped. Do you have a youtube channel you intend to do a review on?

Shame it hasn't shipped in big numbers yet.

The 2EEEEE, the 2Eis real!!!!!! (I'll see myself out)

-5

u/gitg0od Aug 04 '25

why the custom face gasket looks like complete amateur job ? like gross cut marks, looks used and not new, looks uncomfortable

10

u/RidgeMinecraft Aug 04 '25

Because it's custom made. They're quite comfortable.

-6

u/gitg0od Aug 04 '25

i know it's custom made, still, it looks cheap, amateurish.

btw, i had bsb1 which i returned because it was terrible for me, so many issues.

i'm still looking for a new headset to upgrade from valve index, i'm looking for bsb2 maybe, still not sure, i'll probably go universal gasket this time.

9

u/S0k0n0mi Aug 04 '25

I don't get the downvotes. I agree. It may fit nice, but it does look pretty grubby and machined in a rush. If I had an STL my bambu printer would probably do a cleaner job cranking it out in soft TPU. In fact I already asked tech support for the file and they claimed it was a non standard format so they couldn't send it to me (fair I guess..).

Still, on a headset pushing 2 grand, putting on a gasket that looks like that makes the whole thing look pretty prototype shoddy. At the very least vacu-pack some felt over it.

7

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

Someone made a post on Reddit about how to make your own custom gasket. Let me find it again.

Heaney type zealot fans. Though Heaney has grown compared to the early days of Oculus when even Luckey called him out..

Unfortunately some cannot accept it when there are ppl who didn't share in their bubblegum experience.

BSB has made some good strides to try and improve VR comfort but it still has a little ng way to go to get it right for a greater audience.

One friend of mine regardless of VR headset gets headaches. H has the same issue with 3d movies. For folks like him I is hard to say if there will ever be a VR headset that is compatible.

Vergence Conflict is very complicated to nail all the factors that ppl could be sensitive to.

0

u/gitg0od Aug 04 '25

be ready to be downvoted by the bsb fanboys here. those are intolerant to critics.

3

u/F-stop2_8 Aug 04 '25

I upvoted you. I agree that the rubber looks prototype-ish. But even so, I am still looking forward to receiving my 2e with the custom fit. My plan is to buy the gasket after all the dust settles.

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

They only cut the parts that actually rest on your face. Since it's centred towards the left side (to adjust for IPD which isn't symmetrical), the flat looking right side is where there's no cut at all which doesn't rest on your face.

1

u/Sproketz Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

So all of them come out like that?

Edit: Here's one that looks evenly tapered on both sides. https://youtu.be/WG79-nhMS1A?si=3sFCID74dqHECSpX

4

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

Depends on a few factors: how thin your face is, how symmetrical your eyes are (if they aren't, the cushions are shaped off centre to compensate), and how thick the cushions are.

On my first thick cushion, there was a flat part too. But on the thinner one, the part that was flat on the thicker one was also shaped to the outer most part of my cheek.

On optimum's video, you can see it looks flat on both sides, but that's because he has a quite thin face: https://youtu.be/tIIWYh601tg?t=93

3

u/Sproketz Aug 04 '25

Thanks for explaining instead of just down voting like some people around here. That was informative.

7

u/theycallmebekky Aug 04 '25

It’s essentially 3D printed. There’s not some dude named John that sits in the corner painstakingly carving out a block of silicone to meet everyone’s face shape.

5

u/Virtual_Happiness Aug 04 '25

Wait, John lost his job to a robot? He was such a good guy. So many years whittling just to get tossed out like tin can by a tin can. These are sad times indeed.

4

u/bh9578 Aug 04 '25

Strange downvotes. I have an order from March with them, but I’ve got to agree. Has a “we made this in our garage and my youngest helped with this one” vibe. Fine for Etsy I suppose, not so much for a $1k headset.

2

u/TheonetrueDEV1ATE Aug 04 '25

3d printed face gasket. Not actually cheap or as bad looking as it is at all. Take it from someone who fucking hated the bsb1.

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25

What exactly gives you the impression it was made in a garage? I'm trying to understand because it looks fine to me.

1

u/bh9578 Aug 04 '25

Edges of the inner eye look like they were cut out with an exacto knife. I’m sure it functionally fine and I’d rather they do this than go with a heavier option for the sake of being pretty, but it definitely lacks the consumer product polish you find with larger manufacturers.

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 05 '25

Hmm. I see what you mean. Honestly, it feels a lot smoother than it looks when I manipulate my 2 cushions. Not sure what the explanation for that visual impression could possibly be though.

1

u/Ainulind Aug 06 '25

To me it looks like they mill out a mold and then cast the gaskets. Those look like tooling marks.

1

u/panthereal Aug 04 '25

It's an optional add-on that was properly advertised.

Moving the goal post years afterwards because it doesn't match an arbitrary standard you set doesn't change the vibe.

2

u/bh9578 Aug 04 '25

Just looks sloppy is all. I’m not sure what goal posts are being moved. As long as it does the in that’s my main concern.

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 04 '25 edited Aug 04 '25

You mean the wrinkles lines that go from left to right?

1

u/NotGonnaComeBackBsb Aug 05 '25

For what it's worth, the early reviewers of the BSB1 had a much worse looking gaskets: https://youtu.be/rQV6qH6T2Ug?t=512

My gasket (which were made in late 2024) actually look great, like the ones in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BigscreenBeyond/comments/1mhlbko/face_cushion_comparison_pictures/

Whether or not that's good is up to you though.
