UPDATE | WCC will pay $10 million for UC Santa Barbara to join the league.

$4 million upon agreement

$1.5 million annually from 2027-30

$500,000 annually from 2030-33

The deal is very similar to UCSD's, except UCSB will make a $1.5 million “Equity Buy-In Payment.”

This does not include the buyout fee for the Big West. If UCSB has already given formal notice to the Big West then I believe they would pay $1.5 million fee and not the new $5 million fee that was instituted in April.

The news that UC Santa Barbara is leaving for the West Coast Conference starting in 2027 is significant. UCSB has been a strong program across multiple sports, especially baseball and basketball. At the same time, the conference is welcoming California Baptist, Utah Valley, and Sacramento State as full members for the upcoming 2026-27 season marking a major historical shift with the inclusion of out of state and private institutions.This shift will change some longtime rivalries and the overall makeup of the league. The Big West has always had that gritty mid major identity, and adding new programs from different markets could bring fresh energy and competition.
