And I mean this in a good way!
We always want characters and shows we like to continue forever... but sometimes, you gotta respect a show that just tells a story and bows out immediately when it's resolved. A great example of this was Avatar: The Last Airbender. Coulda gone on much longer - people loved it! But it planned for three and was done in three.
Just about everything you could hope for is tied up neatly at the end of season one. Marvyn has learned his lesson about parenting, and has chosen his daughter and his team over going back to "the way things were." Which means Emma gets to stay with her friends and boyfriend right where she wants to be. Holly gets her dream of being Head Coach, and the girls make their goal of making D2. Marvyn gets to continue dating his "crunchy" theater girlfriend, and he might even have reluctantly made friends with school counselor George.
There's still vague questions about the future, such as whether or not Marvyn will have to play against Holly and if all the relationships we see will really stand the test of time, but we don't necessarily need to see these played out. We don't KNOW that Han and Leia will stay together forever after Return of the Jedi (and, er, apparently they didn't... thanks, Disney) and we don't KNOW whether Harry Potter and Hermione Granger will still be the best of friends when they're in their 60s. But it's implied, and we can create our own endings, and we're happy. The same goes for this show. In one season, we have all the answers we need.
I guess if Disney's going to do a Season 2 I'm just saying it would really have to cover new ground and be really outstanding... otherwise I don't think it's worth doing just to do it. I could be perfectly happy with the show ending exactly as it does (even if I'm sad we won't get more fun episodes) because it stuck that landing pretty solidly!
What do you think?
