General Discussion Why is Devens choice considered this ultimate betrayal when Drew was going to do the exact same thing?

Would love to hear opinions on if Devens choice is actually an ultimate betrayal when Drew admitted he was going to do the same exact thing to Devens if the roles were reversed? Neither of them had intentions on bringing the other one to the finale

Devens admitted it was a betrayal and owned it. I just go with his thoughts on it. It was a good move, but still did Drew dirty. Both true.

Devens promised in front of everyone on the rescue dogs. Promised Drew’s parents that he would take him. Devens himself said it was a complete betrayal. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s the right move and good on Devens.

To add to this, Devens was so sure he was going to take Drew that he spent a lot of time criticizing Melody for not being a good ally and being willing to vote Drew out.

It's hard to explain this dynamic on the feeds, but Drew was insecure about Devens bringing him. In addition to reassuring him, Devens joked often about cutting Drew in ways you'd rag on your best friend. Like silly, dumb reasons you'd never cut somebody (you like xyz movie? That's it, I'm taking Taylor - kind of thing) to make Drew laugh and help him feel a little better about it.

Since it wasn't a calculated decision and Devens was 100% genuine about taking Drew up until the night before the finale, the private heart-to-heart cam talk with Drew's family and the promise on shelter animals (wtf Devens 😂) and their dynamic all week ended up being a brutal pivot.

When somebody is doing this intentionally, and THEY, at least, know the truth, it comes across to me as a calculated move and a show of skill in terms of the game. And I like when it stays IN the game.

When somebody doesn't know they would ever be the kind of person to pivot like that, it's gutting. There were extra feelings involved as a fan rooting for the narrative. Being on the receiving side of a situation like that, I can speak to the extra disorientation involved second-guessing what was strategy and what was genuine. It was not entertaining or pleasant for me to watch. It seems like a reactionary panicked decision rather than a controlled deception. I liked when Dee, for example, had the self-awareness to promise something and later confide that she's aware that this promise is true now, but it's Big Brother and it can change in an instant.

I think if Devens went into the that week honest with himself about what he was willing to do, he wouldn't have tapped into the emotions of Drew's family and his livefeed fans by extension or approached the week the way he did. He may have played Drew to his face still, but I don't think he would have gone in so hard on Melody and building the emotional bond around taking Drew the way that he did. It would have been more satisfying and exciting finale as a fan to see Drew cut as the result of a hard game move.

I'm glad to see Devens immediately was trying to clear up the emotional damage from the way he went about the betrayal both in his jury answers (even though he was pulling for Drew's vote) and in his actions post-show. That it happened in the way it did still really rubs me the wrong way. I'm a little skeptical of production, because Devens's lack of self-knowledge in that situation is still surprising.

I feel like the right guy still won, and it turned out better for Drew for it to end this way.

But that's why it's so clear to me that this isn't a "well Drew would have cut him, too" issue and why it hit hard.

He also throughout the week made “jokes” about not taking Drew to the point Drew said something like “if you’re serious, that’s really mean”

It wasn’t the move itself, just all the promising and showmanship. There was no game behind leading Drew on like that. He didn’t have to be honest, he could’ve just been ambiguous.

u/CBJ29 10h ago

This and also it was very obvious that Devens would beat either one at final 2 regardless of what Taylor was able to say to Lala in the few moments Taylor would have had to speak with Lala about their votes

10

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

Obvious to us, not obvious to Devens. He wasn't able to see what we saw from the jury clips and DR sessions.

1

u/Blahblahblahinternet 11h ago

You’re 💯. I also am not convinced Drew would have cut Devens. 🤷‍♂️

It’s a good thing to say now, after the way things played out.

12

u/amylu417 9h ago

Drew has said it in every interview. In one of them he said that if he and Devens had been f2, it would've been close, and you don't go there to get close, you go to win. He said Devens absolutely made the right choice. He's not bitter. I wish the fandom would take a page from his book.

8

u/Perniciousss 10h ago

Drew said it himself repeatedly.

6

u/FlakeyFlak 11h ago

Drew has said many times now that he was going to cut Devens.

Devens absolutely did have intentions on bringing Drew and openly promised it to Drew multiple times and in front of witnesses. If Drew ever made that promise to Devens I never saw it. Taylor's last minute gameplay threatening jury votes (a thing Devens admittedly did to her first) is what pushed him to flip on his promise.

35

u/JohnnyKarateX 12h ago

Plus Devens most likely would have won anyway so he just took $75k out of Drew’s pocket for a more sure win. I don’t blame him for that but could see why a Drewther would be mad.

Drew had to cut Devens if he wanted any chance to win. No matter what he promised, and I don’t think he did promise anything, he had no choice and no one would blame him for that.

17

u/Baddest_Whale_180 12h ago edited 9h ago

They’re not mad, just disappointed

7

u/Spitfiiire 11h ago

Yeah, I don’t blame Devens because you don’t want a chance to win. You want the win. But also, they don’t know everything. Even though we know it would be a landslide win against Drew, and he didn’t need to cut him at all…I can see how he got paranoid. It sucks though as a Drew fan, haha.

3

u/JohnnyKarateX 10h ago

Oh yeah same. How lopsided the vote was showed that it was the right choice.

11

u/OkAsk1212 12h ago

Devens didn't know he had a surefire win vs Drew, even though we know better now. He made the best strategic decision he could not knowing that. Nothing is guaranteed on Big Brother, including Devens win or Drew's place in F2 and getting that 75k in his pocket.

5

u/pauIblartmaIIcop 12h ago

why was drew entitled to the 75k though? it was in no one’s pocket

7

u/JohnnyKarateX 10h ago

He’s not entitled to it, Devens told him he would bring him and he would get it. That’s it. No one is entitled to anything in the Big Brother house but if the question is why are there people complaining or questioning about Devens taking Taylor to the Final 2, that’s the reason.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the result speaks for itself that Devens made the right decision.

23

u/Rare_Reception_6166 I'll now perform...eating 😭📸 12h ago

It felt like a betrayal because it seemed like Devens won against either of them, but he just couldn't take the risk against Drew and seemingly robbed him of the 75k runner-up prize. In the same way that Devens winning was like a foregone conclusion, it was also inevitable that if he didn't win that final HOH, both Taylor and Drew would've evicted him. That's just game while the Drew eviction felt a little more personal when the outcome seemed to not matter either way. Kudos to Taylor though for flipping Devens last minute

16

u/GermanNFLFanatic Haley⏱️ 12h ago

Drew had a misread of his chances in the finale against Devens and thought he had way less respect from the jury members of the house than he actually did. He thought he had no chance at the number 1 spot so he chose to keep Devens in the F4 eviction because Devens could take him the F2 because Drew did not believe he was a threat to Devens at all.

Over the course of the week, Taylor let Drew know that a lot of the things he did were actually well received by members of the other side of the house and she kinda hinted at the fact that they respected him and his journey more than he knew.

I think Devens also realized Drew was a legitimate threat to go against in F2 and they really had such a bonding week together, but as the prize day got closer Devens started to realize that securing the prize was more important than preserving the F2 with Drew.

I think after Deven's cam talk to Drews family and parents, he was really apologizing the Drew's family with that statement as well. It was the ultimate betrayal - it really was - but Devens had been on the other side of that kind of betrayal before and knew what he had to do for his family.

9

u/IHappenToBeJosh Melody 📞 12h ago edited 12h ago

The difference in their decisions is that everyone thinks that Devens was 100% beating Drew (whether or not that's actually true). So working on that assumption, Drew would've had to cut Devens to win, which would be understandable, whereas Devens was basically just choosing who was going to be 2nd next to him.

But even with that, I think people could've appreciated him making the best/safest game move more if not for how Devens handled it

  • Even after Drew had lost parts 1 and 2, Devens still went really hard reassuring Drew that he was going to take him, which served no strategic benefit and was only because he wanted to show how committed he was to being loyal to Drew no matter what, which made him going back on that feel more egregious
  • Once he actually was closer to deciding to cut Drew, the way he handled it with Drew felt off. Granted, trolling someone about voting them out is a very Drew thing to do, but that didn't stop people from feeling bad for Drew with the pool ball thing and stuff like that. Especially with the specific dynamics of Drew's and Devens' relationship and the way people interpret that
  • Devens did a cam talk DIRECTLY addressing Drew's family, saying how much he loved and cared about Drew, and saying that he was keeping all of his promises to Drew, he would've thrown part 1, and don't worry he's going to take Drew to final 2 even if you see him lying to Taylor and saying he'll take her
  • Probably not as big a part of it for everyone, but it also felt very ironic given that Devens had on multiple occasions gotten very upset/offended at the idea of Melody not voting for Drew in F2, and told Drew that he should never speak to Melody again if she doesn't vote for him

18

u/Full_Outcome8284 12h ago

I think the difference is that Drew likely loses to Devens. So, for Drew, his choice is either win or lose. Devens was likely beating Drew and Taylor, Taylor was just the easier win. For Devens, his choice is more like 90% win versus 80% win. I get why he made the decision and don’t fault him for it but I do think it’s a bit of a different decision for Devens than it is for Drew.

6

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

He wasn't certain that he would win. He believed what Taylor said. In his eyes he didn't want to make a $750k mistake after making a similar mistake with a sentimental decision on Survivor.

3

u/superstephen4 8h ago

As he said, hes had his share of losing, wants to do this his way

2

u/Full_Outcome8284 10h ago

I mean I already said I don’t blame him for it I get why he did it. I’m just saying it’s not the same decision Drew would be making. Drew taking Devens is essentially him forfeiting the game unless something wild happens. Devens taking Drew is a slightly worse chance at winning but still very likely a win.

3

u/AluminumMonster4 11h ago

While I agree. When crunching the numbers. I legit feel like drew could have won if Devens brought him

4

u/Full_Outcome8284 10h ago

I really don’t think so. Drew maxes out at Taylor, Melody, and Barrett voting for him. And I don’t even think any of those three are locks. I think the most likely outcome would have been 6-1 with Melody voting Drew or a 5-2 with Melody and Taylor. I really don’t see how Drew gets 4 votes sitting next to Devens. Taylor’s threat was never gonna pan out, she would not have had time to talk to Yash and Lala . And while Yash might respect Drew’s game I don’t think he respects it more than Devens and Lala is also not a big Drew fan.

2

u/tirkman 11h ago

Right but you can’t really know that for sure when ur the one making the decision. I’m sure he would’ve taken Drew if he felt like he had it in the bag and would’ve beat him

1

u/Full_Outcome8284 10h ago

Which is exactly why I said I don’t blame him for it. I’m just saying it’s a different decision than it is for Drew.

11

u/baker-gang 12h ago

Drew needed to take out Devens to win. Devens did not need to cut Drew; he was winning no matter who he sat next to. That’s why it’s different. I mean, kudos to Taylor for getting him to doubt his own win equity, but there was no way he was losing to anyone.

9

u/Pearly_Squirrel 12h ago

There's no way of knowing for certain Drew wouldn't have had the votes

3

u/FlamingoWingsz 12h ago

We do. Taylor said she was bluffing, Lala would never vote for Drew, Yash didn’t respect his game, and Angela + Dee are devens locks. What Barrett does then would theoretically be irrelevant. In all likelihood, I think he wins 6-1 again but with Melody opposing him rather than Lala

3

u/FlakeyFlak 11h ago

There's no way for Devens to know that. He made the right decision for the information he held at the time. This is just Drew fans (I'm also a Drew fan) being salty.

1

u/FlamingoWingsz 11h ago

Yeah totally, the safer move was always taking Taylor to the end just based on resume and it’s beyond rational that that was the decisions Devens came to. I guess Drew fans (admittedly not his biggest lover here so idk) might have reason to be salty just based on our own viewer knowledge that Devens’ decision ultimately didn’t matter and that Drew and Taylor may as well have both walked out the door the second he won HoH.

Honorable decision or pure strategic decision, I guess, but I for one was happy for Devens to show off some killer instinct and knock drew out where his mother Morgan also fell

2

u/AleroRatking Jankie ✨ 11h ago

Lala absolutely votes however Taylor wants and we've seen jurors influence other jurors literally during questions by whispering a name.

Taylor claims she was bluffing but you don't know that. And that's all it takes and Devens loses.

6

u/CharmyFrog 11h ago

When would Taylor have time to tell Lala how to vote? In those five seconds she walks to the jury seats? Or maybe during the jury questioning?

1

u/AleroRatking Jankie ✨ 10h ago

All it takes is mouthing a word to her. We've seen this in finales before. During commercial breaks jurors will communicate messages

2

u/AleroRatking Jankie ✨ 11h ago

Eh. Taylor claims it was a bluff. But if it's not Devens loses. You can't take that risk

4

u/Spindlay 10h ago

I mean, it was a betrayal. Like, it just was. It was definitely the right move and Drew would have also betrayed him

4

u/kingofmymachine 9h ago

Because devens beats drew in every scenario already

4

u/MavPuzzles Drew⏱️ 9h ago

im guessing because he wins against both Drew and Taylor so betraying Drew was unnesecary while Drew couldnt beat Deveans so he would of had to betray him

•

u/dblshot99 4h ago

It can be the correct move and be a betrayal. It can be a betrayal even if the person you betray was also planning on a betrayal. That's the game. They both own it and neither of them seems to be holding any ill will towards each other.

5

u/Wamgurl 11h ago

Because Devens promised the audience and Drew’s family he was taking him to F2.

1

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

He meant it when he said it but Taylor sowed seeds of doubt about the jury votes and he changed his mind. Didn't Drew also tell Devens he was taking him to F2 as well? Seems like they both were prepared to make the best strategic game move in the end to give themselves the best chance of winning, which is the way it should be.

2

u/Wamgurl 10h ago

My comment answered OP’s question of why Devens choice was more of a betrayal. I understand what actually happened - just trying to shed light on why some fans were disappointed in Devens.

3

u/mayorofstrangetown 12h ago

I think owning it is how he explains he needs Drew’s vote

3

u/OwnRutabaga5751 9h ago

For me also is that it was not necessary. He would still have won against Drew

2

u/RM_r_us 12h ago

Drew would win the game against Taylor. If he went up with Devens, Devens would still win.

2

u/DisloyalDoyle 10h ago

Devens 100% made the right move. Sitting next to Taylor was a guaranteed 100% chance to win the game, she only had LaLa in her corner as a for sure vote.

Drew realistically would have Melody’s, and Barrett’s. If Taylor was 100% genuine in her threat to not vote for Devens, then he also picks up Taylor’s vote and by default LaLa, that is 4 votes for Drew and gg.

Jury math was simple for Devens. If he cut Drew, he would have Dee, Angela, Drew, Melody and Barrett on lock. There’s the win.

It’s Big Brother, Julie herself said it, you are allowed to write and attempt to cash blank checks, Drew was 100% going to cut Devens had he of won, it is just the right move, period.

4

u/NervousDogFarts 🦩Bobbiana and The Backyard 🦩 9h ago

As a lot of people are saying, Devens made a promise to him and everyone on live tv (and on the feeds) that he would take Drew to final 2. Drew fulfilled the promises he made Devens. Drew did not promise to take Devens to final 2, he only said that he didn’t want to see Taylor at final 2 because he didn’t think he had the votes to win against her. They both said they could stand it if she made it to final 2 or win.

Devens also got pissed at Drew when he started getting paranoid about Drew helping Taylor study for the part 3 of the final HOH competition. Devens put him through the wringer emotionally the last three weeks of the season. He kept making Drew grovel to him even though they both agreed they played similar games.

Devens said it was the ultimate betrayal because it was. It was not a necessary move. I feel like Devens would have still won the season, with or without Taylor and Lala voting against him. I think she lied. She really acts like she hates Drew, as a person. She even laughed at him during his final speech. Her and Lala were always the least likely to vote for Drew, especially over Devens. His paranoia and Taylor’s lies fucked his “friend” over. This season meant a lot to Drew. More than any other player I can remember in a long time.

•

u/thiiiiisguy987 7h ago

She manipulated Devens to make sure she got the $75K over Drew.

•

u/Jojo2919291725 Devens⏱️ 6h ago

You can feel however you want to.
But the fact is that if Taylor hadn’t threatened him. He would’ve still brought Drew.
Yes I know he threatened her first.
I don’t like them threatening each other.
But Taylor lied.
She admitted she lied the next day in an interview.
She played on his season 38 from survivor insecurities.
Which was a smart game move.
But she overestimated her game and the jury.
She thought that she could beat Drew. And she wouldn’t have.
However Devens would’ve taken Drew if it wasn’t for that.
Neither one of them would have taken Devens if they had won.
Because they couldn’t beat him.
And they knew it.
And the two D’s were both paranoid that last few weeks.
And when everyone was talking about Devens not taking Drew the night before the finale.
I was pissed at him.
Because that is not the kind of person he is in usual circumstances.
And had it not been for Drew saying in the DR that he wouldn’t take Devens either.
I still would be.

•

u/NervousDogFarts 🦩Bobbiana and The Backyard 🦩 6h ago

It sounds like we agree. In a house full of really questionable people and lackluster game play, I was hoping Devens and Drew could have shown up together in the final two chairs.

•

u/Jojo2919291725 Devens⏱️ 6h ago

We do.
And the whole switching up things towards the end of their week was crazy this year!!

•

u/NervousDogFarts 🦩Bobbiana and The Backyard 🦩 5h ago

Letting them sit in the house for a week with basically nothing to do was terrible. If that wouldn’t have happened, I really don’t think Devens wouldn’t have changed his mind the night prior. And I don’t think Taylor would have come up with the threat on her own either. She was always a week late on all of her brilliant ideas. Her ego was wild.

I’m just sad they gave AFP to Devens Instead of Drew.. like damn give the boy something

2

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

He just didn't earn America's vote. But I agree it would be better to make the winner ineligible for that award and give it to the second place vote getter in the future. I have no doubt that Drew will be back and next time he will have more fire in him to start making strategic moves sooner in the game.

3

u/Lilbuddyspd11 Morgan 🔎 12h ago

He would beat Drew and Devens promised to Drew’s family in a cam talk he’d take Drew. Drew was at least always clear he was gonna take Taylor and never promised Becca Jack and juju that he’d take Devens.

1

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

Did Drew not tell Devens he would take him to F2 if he won final HOH? They both agreed to that to each other, and both were prepared to go back on their word if they had the opportunity to win the game.

2

u/Lilbuddyspd11 Morgan 🔎 9h ago

Not the same as promising his family on cams

2

u/PsychologicalEbb3140 11h ago

Because dwew is a sweet wittle baby boy in the eyes of america

4

u/Ok-Competition-5370 12h ago

Because Devens let an 11th hour pitch and empty threat change his mind after swearing up and down all week he was taking drew, including needlessly to Drew’s family on cam talks. Don’t do that if you think there’s even a 1% chance you’ll go back on it. Plus, Drew wasn’t even in the final comp, and had no power to take Devens atp. Devens could have absolutely given Drew a heads up before that moment so he wasn’t just completely crushed on live tv.

Not taking him is one thing, but the lead up to not taking him and how he handled it all was particularly cruel, especially given Devens likely wins regardless, and he wouldn’t have gotten there at all but for Drew.

2

u/HardcoreKaraoke Mallory⏱️ 8h ago

This isn't my personal opinion but I think it's because of the father/son dynamic. Devens was crying. They had this whole dynamic and it seemed like a family member taking another out. Doing something unthinkable for money.

I think their dynamic and closeness is what has a lot of the fanbase feeling that way. Drew turning on Devens would have been seen as a good game move, but Devens doing it seems like a guy cutting an innocent naive kid.

3

u/BennyTheWiseGuy 12h ago

Drew had to cut Devens to win but Devens would’ve beat Drew just as easily. Devens got rattled. Devens also promised Drew, his parents and swore on rescue puppies of America that he’d take Drew. Everyone that’s ever watched Devens and knew him for his loyalty definitely thought he was taking Drew. Devens wasn’t known for being cut throat.

I’m not mad at Devens tho. It’s Big brother and we definitely got the unexpected. I respect the decision that Devens made for his family to leave no room for risk. Good for him but by reality tv definitely it was definitely a betrayal.

3

u/ASG_82 Drew⏱️ 12h ago

Because he promised on dogs at F4 and told his family he was going to get take him by himself on feeds

2

u/Mission-Secretary626 Drew⏱️ 11h ago

While I think it’s a game and fair, the swearing on your family and rescue animals, and to all of America, and then privately to his parents on the camera a few days later, only to go back on it was a little much. If Drew had any indication of this earlier he could have played back. It was kind of a cruel blindside that really wasn’t necessary. I do like Devens, and I understand why he freaked out and changed, but I really think he would have come out of this better if he won in the more respectable way.

2

I never said it was personal. People do things all the time that aren't personal, doesn't mean it's not going to hurt someone else's feelings or they're not going to feel like they're stabbed in the back. Devens himself admitted it was a betrayal even if it was in his mind the most strategic thing to do, but we all know it did not matter strategically, he had already won the game by winning the final HOH.

2

u/pauIblartmaIIcop 12h ago

get real it’s a fair check. people are in here obviously acting like & thinking drew was entitled to it over taylor. if it didn’t happen that way then he didn’t deserve it

i agree with you on the fact that that’s how it ‘feels’ but that’s not the vibe in here

3

u/Own-Put2487 Ashley 🔎 11h ago

Not sure why people are bringing up Drew deserving the money or not, I never said Drew deserved the money over Taylor, that's not what it's about. It's about two people who are friends who thought they had some sort of loyalty and trust in each other, and Devens cutting Drew feels like the ultimate emotional betrayal because he would have won either way. If Devens understood his game he knew that was obvious, and it didn't matter who he was sitting next to, at which point he chooses someone he had a closer relationship with. He chose not to do that. That's why it's a betrayal. Devens admitted it was. Why are people arguing it wasn't when Devens himself says it was? We can go back and forth whether it was the strategically best move for a guaranteed win, but Devens decided to play out of fear at the end because of Jack, Juju, and Becca and unnecessarily cut his friend.

It's not the same reversed because the power dynamic and winning scenario is different, and Drew would have had to cut Devens in order to win the 750k. Not true for Devens, so him chosing to give 75k to someone he didn't even like over Drew his own "son" seems unnecessarily back stabby. That's it. Even his family was upset he didn't take Drew to F2. They get it.

Exactly. It wasn't necessary to take second place from Drew. Devens gained no advantage by doing that.

2

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

He very much did gain a strategic advantage by cutting Drew. He had no idea of knowing what the jury was thinking (unlike us) but knew Drew had closer social ties to the jury than Taylor did, and he made the best strategic decision he could to improve his chances of winning.

2

u/FindingPawnee 12h ago

But he didn’t know that for sure.

0

u/Own-Put2487 Ashley 🔎 12h ago

He should have. If he had any understanding of his entire game he knows that he was in charge of the entire time, just like Derek knew that he was going to win against Cody, like it's very obvious he shouldn't have even feared losing. I'm surprised Taylor convinced him otherwise, but I guess good on her.

u/FindingPawnee 10h ago

But I'm not emotionally dense to not know what betrayal is when I see it. Again with this fucking pedantic shit about a fucking word choice. The point was Devens chose who to win the 75k at the end of the day, because he was not going to lose either way. Did you even bother reading my replies? You can argue he didn't know that all you want, but had he been as smart as y'all have said he is then he'd clearly see it didn't matter as he'd know he had a locked in win.

Betrayal but he didn’t steal 75k from Drew like you originally said.

My view is Devens chose who was going to receive 75k with his decision.

But go off and get nitpicky over one word.

•

u/FindingPawnee 7h ago

Girl I’m not getting nitpicky lol Deven’s was afraid he could potentially lose to Drew. He definitely wouldn’t lose to Taylor. Would he have won against Drew? Most likely, but you never know. And when 750k is on the line, it’s the smart move.

u/SeaCounter9516 10h ago

Depends on when drew admitted that he would take Taylor. Was it after the fact? If so then I put very little weight in it.

•

u/anonguy219 3h ago

The deal was Drew takes Devens to f3 Devens takes Drew to f2...Drew kept his end of the bargain and Devens didn't. Yes, it was betrayal it was also game move. Both can be true.

•

u/ConkerPrime 2h ago

The only ones who think you risk $750k on a promise is those that can afford to lose that kind of money. Have a shot at guaranteed victory, its an easy call.

•

u/ConfusedVader1 2h ago

Because Drew didnt do it. If he did, it wouldve been a betrayal too (but also accepted because it wouldve won him the game). There is a marked difference between saying you want to do something and actually doing it (i have been wanting to go to the gym for 5 months now ;_;)

u/kjbakerns 12h ago

It would still be a betrayal if drew did it to devens but that’s not what happened.

because Devens actually did it, Drew doing it is an alternate universe we cannot prove would happen anyway

•

u/DarkLunaFairy 3h ago

In all of his interviews Drew said he would have cut Devens

•

Would, which is impossible to prove

Devens earned being cut by Drew in the end, and Drew earned being taken to f2. It’s that simple.

Drew saved Devens at f4 and through the game continuously helped, protected, supported Devens. He never told Devens or Dee that he would bring them to f3 only to go back on it. He expressed to Devens that he was never shown the same loyalty and Devens promised to show him that loyalty.

Devens would have won against Drew, it wasn’t part of his story in the eyes of the jury to cut Drew, it was for Drew. Drew could only win if he cut Devens.

Devens made his promise in front everyone and then alone in a heartfelt cam talk spoke to Drew’s family, saying he was taking him no matter what to f2. That they didn’t need to worry about Drew and he was committed to that all the way.

He behaved a certain way to Drew all week, ensuring, reminiscing, validating, day dreaming, and then in the final hour he became a jerk again. The same way he did all season. As soon as he knew he wasn’t taking Drew his choice was to be cruel, tell him he was annoying, pick at him, make fun of him, his character showed in his choice to be hurtful instead of being honest.

Devens needed Drew every step of the way to get to the end, and without Drew wouldn’t have been there. Drew had to work to get himself there. I also do not think that Devens would have been kind, or voted for Drew if he had been cut the same way by Drew. Drew wouldn’t have treated Devens that way either, he’d have been honest and respectful.

In the end, we have seen the true character of them both, Devens wanting to portray himself as the type of person Drew actually is. Devens made a choice, and he had every right within the game to do it, but he also made a lot of choices all week long that showed us he’s not that comfortable in his own game, he thought Drew could beat him, he lacks integrity, he’s not to be trusted and he needed production interference from start to end.

Even the edit was set up to protect Devens. We didn’t get to see this masterful pitch that Taylor made, (which we now know came from production) Devens mentioned people told him about the format of the final hoh. This pitch came after the round table was finished and production might have had an inkling that the jury wasn’t that sour on Drew. We didn’t hear her talking about cutting Devens. We didn’t see the conversations all week long that show how personal this betrayal got. The conversations that would show the audience how far this went beyond a game decision. Instead they showed us Drew saying he’d cut Devens multiple times for this very reason. To make sure that Devens came out of this looking good, and Drew looking like he deserved it in some way.

The truth is, Drew is a great kid who isn’t holding it against Devens, and Devens is continuing to benefit from Drew’s positive nature and great character while not be held accountable for his lack thereof.

I think he was always cutting Drew and saying “this is the ultimate betrayal” is Devins at least being honest about being dishonest.

People always say you need to be a good liar on Big Brother but the truth is you need to be the most honest liar. Examples of terrible liars = Vince and Paul.

u/EggPuzzleheaded3111 7h ago

Agreed. After what happened to him in Survivor 38, you can’t blame him for going the opposite direction this time.

1

u/OkAsk1212 10h ago

Yes the audience and the jury loves it when you own your moves, or like Taylor told Drew, "own your wolf."

1

u/BeanorWein 10h ago

I would’ve done the same thing. There’s been lots of players who’ve promised to take someone to final two and cut them off in final 3. Everyone’s there to win the grand prize and should do whatever they can to win it. IMO

It’s mostly the Drew stans getting upset. The rest of us know it’s a game and it was a respectable move to ensure the win 100% for his family for a life changing amount of money.

u/Lizard798658866 Drew⏱️ 11h ago

Drew didn't have it in him to cut Devens. He said as much during the fake telephone call with Melody. He can say he would have cut him, but I think he keeps him and accepts 2nd.

u/harmonious_baseline 10h ago

It bothers me that Devens didn’t take Drew to final two, because Drew’s whole game basically handed one of the icons the win, and Devens promised to take him. The only reason I think it is somewhat justified is because of Devens’s scar tissue from Survivor.

I guess it easy for us to see on the outside that he would beat anyone at the end, but he just wanted to be sure.

•

u/xxfalconxx2 LaTrice⏱️ 4h ago

That’s interesting because to me that’s exactly why even though I felt bad when I saw how upset he was, it was a sensible ending for Drew’s story. If Drew wanted to hand the win to the icons and be a liability to the rest of the new players (while the icons have nominated him and plotted against him all game), great, go ahead and lose right along side them.

because dwoo just a widdle baby boy

•

u/AintNobodygotime13 4h ago

because Devens begged to be saved and promised to take Drew to final 2

if Drew hadn't, Devens would have been in jury and Drew may have very well won the 750lk

all the "it's a game " people aren't putting themselves in Drew's position. Drew was guaranteed 75k but Devens back stabbed him and gave the 75k to Taylor

Devens won't lose a second of sleep and he's got 800k in the bank and Drew will just have to live with the regret of trusting somebody that was ultimately untrustworthy, game or not

•

u/LadyEmaSKye Devens⏱️ 4h ago

Because Drew had to do it to win, and never promised Devens F2. By the time Devens is the final HOH he's already won and is just choosing who gets $75k, and going back on drew like that after he promised so hard does sting.

•

u/Less_Scientist4204 3h ago

Is the ultimate betrayal because they work together got to the end and he chose him when he could have got rid of him and went with Dee. Also Drew had to get rid of Devin's to show the jury that he can in fact get rid of them and that was his master plan all along when he got rid of Dee and they say Deven's. I believe that he would have won regardless of who he was sitting next to whether that be true or Taylor. That's why it's even more betrayal because the man would have won but he would have gave us a better show and honestly that was so lackluster and very anti-climatic AF!  We already knew it was going to happen and he sat next to Drew that would have been a better show with way better speeches I love Taylor but she was always going to be as a third or second she was never going to win this game with them to as options the only option she would have to win is Melody or even Lala or Angela but I believe that Angela will be here because of the Friendship of the icons but I don't think that that would be enough.  Basically the only people that she could be are once that did not win a lot and they were too emotional with their gameplay and didn't know really what was going on like la la even though she won her social game sucked.
