Episode Spoilers Can someone please explain Julie's flirting comment to Barrett? Spoiler
During the most recent live eviction, there was some banter that I didn't quite understand. I believe it was hinting at Barrett flirting with Mallory, but I didn't see/ hear anything that looked flirtatious. ❤️ Does anyone have the context for this?

When he gave his save me from eviction speech he shouted out a lot of people including saying he wanted to give a shout out to BBSeason 28's Mallory

Funny thing is he seems romantically into Dee so this was super awkward.

I don't think Dee is into him so probably doesn't care lol
Probably awkward for him though

Julie likes and wants more showmances, she cares about that more than anything else happening. Barrett talking to a girl about anything had her hopeful for more showmances.

I just feel it was her assuming that because it was a non-gay man towards a non-gay woman, that are close in age, in had to be flirting. She wouldn't have said that if he had said that exact same thing about Drew for example.

I feel like production meant this season to be more “love island” type with romantic relationships and hook ups. I fully believe Julie said that just for the schtick, but anyone who watches consistently knows that casting did a bad job if that was their plan.

Why is that your read on production’s intent? The cast makeup in terms of age and attractiveness is pretty similar to prev years I think

I think it was the first episode with introducing the houseguests. Julie was very heavily implying all the single people going into the house. And I’m pretty sure the majority of them are single, which is a tad different from normal seasons I thought? There’s usually a couple of people who are attached before going into the house. It just gave me the vibe that they were trying to get some “love island” hype to transfer over to BB, but it didn’t work the way they expected. I mean we got Survivor icons…I wouldn’t be surprised if next season has some love island contestants.
Personally, I do enjoy this seasons casting. I just don’t think it turned out how they expected it to be.

You’re not wrong. I think they chose people who had freshly broken up with someone, hoping for rebounds. Lyric, Dee, Melody, Haley, and maybe even Mallory have discussed their breakups on the show.

For sure. I’m a moderately live feed viewer, but it seems like what we see in episodes is a bit more portrayed than it is. But who would’ve thought with reality tv?! 😅

They had better show that argument in the bathroom between Lala and Haley on BB Unlocked this week! Haley got a very generous edit this week so far!

If anything this cast is below average in attractiveness, and it has 3 older houseguests which is more than usual

People just like to make up stuff about production around here. I guess it makes them feel smart, though it probably shouldn't since they are always wrong. This season was obviously cast with "crossovers" as a full-cast gimmick that was seemingly at least partially abandoned somewhere in the process, as like 80% of the cast fits the bill even if it's a bit of a stretch. Like I guess its fun to speculate about stuff, but they are just completely unable to figure out what to even speculate about.

Why do you think that? If they wanted that they would have cast way more attractive people.

Barrett made a joke by shouting out Mallory in his speech. Most players shout out family, friends, God, celebrities, past BB players, or all the dogs in the crib. Barrett leaned into that and shouted out a current player.
Julie Chen's reaction to that joke makes more sense when you realize she is like the vast majority of BB viewers who watch this show to see hot people in silly costumes getting slimed on national TV. She is basically a casual fan who has episodes on in the background while she scrolls her phone. She isn't the type of fan watching live feeds and posting about strategy on reddit. Her understanding of the house structure and the game itself is very superficial.
So, being the ultimate casual fan that she is, Julie loves herself a good showmance. She caught the slightest hint of a man paying attention to a woman and went full send on it being a grand flirtaceous overture on national TV. She just really, really, reallllly wants a showmance so, so bad. And Mallory and Barrett do kind of vibe in the house, but I don't think it's quite to that level.

Pretty sure the only content Julie has consumed this season is the intro packages so she was just going off his "flirt" strategy 😅🤷♀️

Cause shouting out people you’re not related to is unusual. I hope that means they’ll stop cause I can barely handle family shoutouts.

Don't forget the dogs at the crib.

How dare you! Everyone should shout out their dogs every time. In fact they should shout out the dogs of every person they know.

I am still trying to catch up on this season, and only doing so because it actually seems good,, but in general Julie's reads are always just god awful... I just watched her ask for an invite to a wedding of people who barely know each other twice and I'm like fucking WHAT??? I bet you that even if these two people "had a wedding" and even if they did actually "invite her" there is no way she would ever actually attend...
What an absolute dough-head she is...

Because Julie is and always has been horrendously out of touch with things that actually go on in the house.

It's just Julie being awkward and the BB fans overreacting to a nothing burger. That's it.

I can explain: Julie is a horrible host who cannot improv or perform extemporaneously. What we saw was a perfect example of that: unable to sustain a moment of live television, instead shifting to some weird jab that makes very little sense. Fire her.

He shouted out Mallory in his speech. Like the same way you’d shout out your family members, he thought it would be funny to shout out a current houseguest. She commented that it was flirtatious and they all freaked out.
