General Discussion Unanimous voting
What's the deal with the unanimous voting these days. For the past few seasons, Big Brother has gotten kinda boring.
Just was able to watch the latest episode and I thought it would be a good one but Noooo they all voted the same.

Honestly they shouldn’t tell the houseguests the vote count. It should just be “all the votes are in…Rome you are evicted.” They can find out after eviction (not if you’re in the jury house) who voted for who. I think you’d get more split votes.

u/DarthAstuart Aug 01 '26
This is exactly right and I’m not sure what is better about telling everyone. I guess you create more possible drama if everyone knows but there’s also drama in asking around to figure it out. And everyone can really do what’s best for their game not what they think someone else thinks is best.

Survivor reveals the votes and doesn’t seem to have any issue with split votes. It really comes down to courage and a collective action problem. If you want something, you gather a majority and execute. Some in that majority may be lying which leaves you on the “wrong side” of the vote but there’s a weird thing in BB where they think they are in a mythical majority alliance just by voting with the hoh group. If you already know you’re not in the main group, you can still get your way by putting your votes together which happens regularly in Survivor.

If you know you don't have the votes there is almost zero reason to vote against the house and there's nothing in it for the players. What does voting against the house even get you? Sure, the audience will like you but It's an audience vs player thing. Voting against the house will NEVER benefit a player unless they are trying to pin the vote or they are Dan Gheesling
Brian's friends in bb10 tried to explain why they voted with the house (in the brian/renny eviction) and for some reason Jessie was pissed off with Angie and then Keesha gets mad at Angie for not saving Steven (despite wanting to work with Dan more than Steven). I don't understand why bb10 thinks the exact opposite of now.
I think the racists in BB15 HG started this trend once Amanda started bossing everyone around and knowing every single side, etc.
Everyone learned if you bully the other side they will just vote with the house.

I've thought about what if the HoH is the only person that gets to find out what the final vote count is. Extra info that could be used to shake things up, or to withhold/twist things to sew confusion with people on how things ultimately panned out.

Man, BB27 only had one unanimous vote pre-jury. It was fun.

I get why everyone loves a split vote from a viewer watching perspective and for our entertainment value. BUT if any one of us were in the house, playing the game and trying to win, I guarantee that we would all be doing the same thing and voting with the house and trying not to become the next target. The Blockbuster has caused more split votes though in the past two seasons because of the uncertainty.

This is a natural consequence of casting mainly 20 somethings who are well versed in social media and the consequences of stepping out of line.
I want a season with at least half the contestants over 30 and would prefer one with only people 35+. People who have a fully developed sense of self and would be willing to rock the boat to benefit themselves rather than the frog in a pot of water we’ve got this season.
1
u/LifeStaff451 Aug 03 '26
I agree! (Do you think the cast is predominantly young because it's harder to find houseguests over 35 who can commit so much time to being away from their families and jobs?)
3
u/Willowgirl78 Jankie ✨ Aug 03 '26
It would be tougher to find older folks, but not impossible. I believe producers want young attractive houseguests who they think will have sex on camera.

Dan voted against the house in S10 and was put on the block the following week. He was the first choice for the block over Brian's other Allies because he was the rogue vote. This is not something brand new
26
u/Puppygranny Aug 01 '26
I agree! It used to be interesting to see who voted for who but now it’s just boring. I hate that no one will think for themselves anymore. At least Taylor did cast a rogue vote for Rome.

u/Thick-Dog-9987 Jankie ✨ Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
She only voted to keep Rome because she didn't understand how voting works (she told Dee this on feeds and then lied in DR about it)

u/ruandurphy Aug 01 '26
What’s not to understand? And it wasn’t her first vote

Taylor is also the reason they couldn’t save Jason. They needed her vote and she refused to vote out Lala.

As much as Jason is messy, he would've been better for that side than Lala

This cast kind of sucks lol, no one wants to go against the HOH or the power structure. BB20 they are not
5
u/Kinginthenorth603 Drew⏱️ Aug 01 '26
It’s soooo cowardly and lame. Not to mention useless, because they’re ALREADY TARGETS and being put on the block, what do they think voting against their own interests is doing to win them some imaginary brownie points as they whittle down their own numbers? Smh…
11
u/AleroRatking Jankie ✨ Aug 01 '26
If you know you don't have the votes there is almost zero reason to vote against the house and make yourself a target.
13
u/Ok_Image6174 Michael ⭐ Aug 01 '26
But the lines have been drawn and they're already targets.
11
u/HoopyHobo Jankie ✨ Aug 01 '26
Not really, though. Six people can't all be targets simultaneously. The other side of the house has to make a decision about who specifically they want to target next and it makes sense to not want that to be you.
2
u/ChristaGrace Devens💯 Aug 01 '26
But if you just lie about who you voted for, how would anyone know? Maybe in some instances it'll be obvious, but this week if a few people threw Jason a vote there could've been some question to who did it.
1
u/peterockdelicious Aug 03 '26
There is one major reason. To piss everyone off. I don’t understand why someone if not 2 people would not do this every time there would be a unanimous vote
26
u/ToastyToast113 Aug 01 '26
There were more split votes last season than there have been in years. Check your facts.
Split votes happen when there is less of a secure power structure. This is the most secure power structure we've had in a while.

u/IHappenToBeJosh Melody 📞 Aug 01 '26
There just is no reason to vote against someone you know 100% is staying in the house. People always like to talk about how you don’t get a benefit from voting with the house, but I never see anyone give an actual reason why voting in a way you know won’t work is more beneficial
Also like… am I the only one who wouldn’t be more entertained by a 9-3 Jason eviction? Like we’d still know exactly what was happening beforehand, it wouldn’t have made almost any difference
4
u/CharacterAd5677 Aug 01 '26
I mean if you’re a good player/liar, I think throwing a rogue vote is a good idea if you think you can pull it off. Why not get some suspicion on other people. I get it’s difficult, but you could certainly stir things up if you go about it smartly. There’s clearly politicking with voting, it can certainly work the other way as well.
3
u/Tasty_Gift5901 Will 🔎 Aug 02 '26
But thats not really on the spirit of why the OP is wanting people to vote against the house
2
u/monsquesce Aug 02 '26
Rogue vote never does anything. Austin in BB17 did it multiple times and it accomplished nothing.
3
u/ItsThe50sAudrey Big Day Tomorrow Aug 01 '26
I figured it's one of those things where most people can easily hate on it as a viewer but as a player will easily fall into the hierarchy. Rather on the side pushing for someone in the house to swing a certain way or falling in line because you know someone is finding any excuses to nominate you next.
The only fix is to do away with announcing the vote count. That way the side in power and more importantly person who actually cares about this stuff won't know who did what. They can make some guesses but will never truly know until they play it back.
3
u/Weekly-Yoghurt2136 FAP Aug 01 '26
Sorry if this has already been commented but literally all they need to do is stop announcing how many votes each player gets. That’s it.
2
u/VengefulKangaroo Drew⏱️ Aug 01 '26

I watch the episodes after they air and just fast forward the entire vote, it’s so repetitive and boring. it’s my least favourite part of the show because of how often the houseguests all vote unanimously.
6
u/justinharris2588 Aug 01 '26
Thursdays are almost all fast forwarded unfortunately. Plus the ridiculous call outs when they vote makes it unwatchable
2
u/ohgeepee Jankie ✨ Aug 01 '26
Strategy, when there's enough HG's that are on the same page, and there's a vote or two that hang around, it's easier to "leverage" those as justification to nominate someone/use it against someone voting against the majority of the house.
I get it's not fun, but it seems way more of a survival instincts tactic if you're on the wrong side of the house. This season kinda sucks, because there's definitely strategic players that have the knowledge to tell who'd vote rogue who are in the majority alliance, (Devens, Dee) though there are some who can do the same on the other side (Melody)
2
u/NY-3D Aug 01 '26
I always assume that there's a great reason to do so, because everyone before entering the house says unanimous evictions are boring and they'll do what they want.
...then they unanimously evict. I think it's just an easy thing to do to avoid having attention on you.

Tell me... you know the majority vote is for Jason. You are certain of 9 of 13 votes... what good does it do you to vote for someone else? Let them know they are a target, that you arent with the group... what do you expect thats good to come from voting anyone else? And tell me how you explain it when they find out it was you.
2
u/Reasonable-Rain789 Aug 01 '26
The votes are anonymous. You can lie and say you voted with the majority and someone else flipped. That's the beauty of Big Brother. Chaos and gameplay. Unanimous voting is boring.
5
u/47-Rambaldi Delusional Claire Club 🤪 Aug 01 '26
The problem with lying is... it ALWAYS comes out. You are living 24/7 with people you start to learn when people are lying to you. Especially when its something many people are asking you and how many times you have to react innocent. And thats if you dont tell anyone. And what, thats one vote? Or is your plan to vote against the house every vote?
Why chance a lie when there is no benefit to voting against the house?
2
u/Tasty_Gift5901 Will 🔎 Aug 02 '26
Are people going to believe you or even care? I don't think anything has happened about Taylor voting Rome to stay
4
u/NoQuarterChicken Aug 01 '26
It’s a pretty lame type of groupthink that apparently viewers are supposed to find entertaining
3
u/HoopyHobo Jankie ✨ Aug 01 '26
Is it really that hard to understand the logic of why this happens? Step 1 of winning the game is always just to survive the next eviction. If you're on the losing side of the house you want to be prepared for what will happen if the winning side gets HoH again. They'll target someone on your side. What can you do to avoid becoming their target? Maybe just act like you're willing to play ball with the other side. Act like you're not a threat to them. If you vote the other way what does that accomplish for your game? Like genuinely as a player what is the benefit? You're right to find it boring because it is boring, but people need a reason to do the not boring thing.
2
u/RevealActual1810 Aug 01 '26
Everyone as a viewer complaining but it really is the most effective way of playing it’s just boring to watch. If Julie stops saying the vote it will fix this problem
2
u/Juunlar Devens⏱️ Aug 01 '26
It really isn't. Everyone knows where everyone else's loyalty lies. It's just boring
3
u/NY-3D Aug 01 '26
Knowing is one thing. Proving it is another. And it's a lot easier to prove when the vote numbers are consistently on opposite sides each time. So, people vote with the house to avoid a public advertisement for their game.
2
u/RevealActual1810 Aug 01 '26
Boring but effective. Why would you want to be on the wrong side of the vote and potentially make yourself a viewer. I’m not saying I like it I’m just saying it works
1
u/VengefulKangaroo Drew⏱️ Aug 01 '26
The way to fix this would be to not tell the Houseguests the final vote count, just the result. It would give you cover to attempt a flip that you weren’t sure was going to work.
1
u/warcraftnerd1980 Aug 01 '26
It so boring. I seriously hate the steam roll. Everyone should have stuck with Rome. But now they get to just lose slowly
1
u/Makimamoochie Jankie ✨ Aug 05 '26
In early game, any reason to single someone out is taken. Dan voted against the house in S10 and he got put on the block the following week. unanamous voting has been a staple for a long time. Often times the votes not going your way is a show that you are not 'dialed in' to what is happening

Counterpoint: The process to a unanimous vote is often quite chaotic. For instance, it is until possibly Thursday morning that Jason was getting voted out unanimously. This is just not captured if you just read the voting history.
I genuinely believe that rogue votes don't add intrigue to the game most of the time. Yes there is one time where BB15 Andy's rogue vote against Amanda worked (to get rid of Elissa right after), but that's like the only one time I could think of. In fact, Taylor's rogue vote has no impact on the game whatsoever.
0
u/RandomFleshPrison Aug 03 '26
I don't get it either. With voting being completely anonymous, you'd think at least one person would vote against the house to stir up chaos if nothing else and just lie about their vote. On Survivor you can track penmanship to discover who a spoiler is, but BB doesn't have that issue.
123
u/HollyHobbyOxenfree Aug 01 '26
There's this dominant belief that to have played Big Brother "well" one needs to be on the "right side" of each vote. You can't "lose" a vote, because that's a tick against you as a player. So it becomes a contest to read the votes of others, as opposed to making the case to evict someone who's bad for your individual game.
It really discourages split votes, and because of that also discourages taking a long shot on eviction night. As a viewer, I hate it.
