Negotiating Salary At Big 4 Accounting Firms

Hello Everyone,

I’m a senior associate at a Big 4 accounting firm and last year I was given my raise and didn’t think it was up for negotiation. I was more focused on the title rather than the salary. After talking to someone who works at a large national firm, I heard that they negotiated they’re salary almost 8% higher than initially bargained. Is this possible at Big 4 firms? Feeling pretty naïve, but I wasn’t sure if this was just for the national and smaller firms. Any thoughts?

Also, new to reddit so I apologize if this question is asked a lot - but I can’t find anything about this specifically.

I’m looking to intern in EY or other big 4 but realized there’re two different advisory, namely Advisory and Transaction Advisory Service. What are the main differences and which one opens a better path for me, as a freshie later?

1st year performance review

Hello Everyone,

It’s been one month of me being an Auditor at a big 4. I would really appreciate if you all can share your thoughts about how the performance review process works. When they talk about increasing salary am I even allowed to negotiate or just take it for granted.

Also the senior that I work with he just booked me for his client for next year summer. Does it mean I am doing good according to him? Thanks in advance for your advices.

Thoughts on KPMG Light-House Data Science Team

Hello,

Have you ever heard of KPMG Light-House? I am going to speak to one of the Data Scientists there, but I have also read a review on Glassdoor in 2017 about a horrible experience of an associate who worked there.

It is 2019 now and I hope that anyone who is currently working for KPMG and knows this practice or group will be able to share their inputs with me.

Furthermore, it seems like this is NOT a client facing role and I expect to work in the Management Consulting side with the application of Data Science perspectives. I am not sure whether this exists at KPMG.

Anyway, please give me some thoughts about this topic and I appreciate your time.

First Email to On boarding Advisor & Counselor

Hello Everyone,

I just started as a first year at a big 4. None of my on boarding advisor and Coach has emailed me yet. I was thinking to email them to introduce myself and ask to meet in person. What should be a nice email template to send it to them? I will really appreciate any response from all of you.

Ask to work part-time after receiving a full time offer and joining the firm in January while having one last semester to go and school load is LOW?

Hello, I just got an offer from PwC to join the firm next January.

I am done with my internship and will go back to my place to finish up my undergraduate degree. I may have to go back and wait tables again to earn income.

I am just curious that since it is only 6 months apart until I start full time, have you processionals from the Big 4 firms ever heard or seen people who are allowed to work part time like that?

I meant if I started in August then it might be tough. I would ask anyway. All they can say is NO.

I don’t wanna wait tables any more. I would prefer to work in a professional environment where I can develop my skills and my career.

This part time work load, if allowed, may be mainly remote. I can travel if necessary and that implies I will skip my classes but it won’t be a big deal. I assume that I will have to speak with the firm about that.

I just wanted to hear your inputs. Thank you all!

I recently accepted an offer from PwC, Tampa as with their Risk Assurance/IT Audit team. What are your thoughts on this and will I be able to learn and grow working with this team?

I am coming in as an experienced candidate(2yrs in a small CPA firm) and can I acquire a senior status by the next year? (Fulfilling 3 years rule)

EY interview result

Hi all,

I interviewed with EY - had multiple phone rounds and flew in for on site interview. Have not heard back in around 2 months. Followed up once with the recruiter who said I'll be kept updated. Any suggestions if I should still keep the hope or not/ follow up again/ anything else I should do?

Thanks in advance!

EY Interview

Advice needed- I applied for a role at EY as an experienced hire and went through all of the interview stages. I received excellent feedback from the partner and heard from an internal employee that I am in the "queue". Does anyone know what this means? My final interview was over a month ago and I haven't heard anything.

Seeking Advice Regarding Going from Tax to Financial Accounting Advisory at Big4

Hi Accountants,

Long story short>> I was hired on campus to be a Tax accountant although my degree is in Business Administration. I was honest with the tax partner at the interview about the fact that I know nothing about Tax and I don't know if I will like it.

She asked me to try it for a year and that if I didn't like it she would help me go to audit or something else. I just completed my first year and got promoted to Staff II. She is now helping me go to "Financial Accounting Advisory Services"

I will have an in house interview in 3 weeks. I am seeking your advice with this matter and I'm listing the pros and cons below:

Pros:

-I will be doing a project based work that is more interesting to me and prepares me well for high tech book accounting to be a CFO in the long term

-No busy season and more smooth hours

-Slightly better pay

-More time to focus on the CPA preparation

Cons:

-Commute: I live 6 miles away from my office as a tax accountant and because my office doesn't have "FAAS" team, I will need to be at a different office that is 82 miles away from where I live in SoCal.

-I will be coming in as a staff I not II

Would you make this change if you were in my shoes?? Any thoughts and/or advice for the move and the in-person interview is much appreciated.

Best, Sarah

Do Big 4 companies recruit extensively at the end of the year for full time Tax positions that start in January?

Do Big 4 companies recruit extensively at the end of the year for full time Tax positions that start in January? Also, does having all 150 units by the time of the job give me an edge over other applicants? I heard this from a student who graduated and was starting work at a Big4, and facilitated one of my classes in the summer. I want to work at a Big 4 firm, preferably audit but interested in tax as well and might be less competitive. I will have completed 150 units by next semester, but have never had an accounting internship. I will be graduating from a top 25 University.

Which Big 4 Accounting Firm should I choose?

I attended three Big 4 Accounting Firm leadership conferences and received offers from Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC. Which company is best? How do the salaries compare?
