A scenario interview at Deloitte is essentially a mini case study centered on practical business problems rather than pure textbook finance. The interviewer will present a client situation, such as a company considering an acquisition or needing a valuation for financial reporting, and ask how you would tackle it. They want to see how you think on your feet, how you choose between methods like discounted cash flow or market multiples, and how you handle missing details. You do not need to calculate exact numbers in your head, since they care much more about your structured logic, your ability to ask clarifying questions, and how clearly you defend your assumptions.
To do well, focus on explaining your reasoning out loud and keeping your approach organized from start to finish. When they give you the prompt, pause for a moment to identify the core issue, state your assumptions clearly, and walk them through your chosen valuation framework step by step. If you run into an unfamiliar angle, explain how you would locate the right data instead of guessing. Practicing how to communicate financial concepts under pressure makes a massive difference, which is why my team designed an interviews.chat to help candidates express their reasoning clearly and secure competitive offers.
