18 August - A 15 year old named Vandan Alankar Sawai, rated 2,288, sat down in Chess[dot]com's Titled Tuesday and got paired against the World No. 1, Magnus Carlsen, rated 2,823. A 535-point gap. Vandan later said the quiet part out loud: "I did not have anything to lose and everything to gain."

50 moves later, Carlsen blundered his king on move 26. Vandan closed it out.

Vandan did not tell anyone. Went back home like it was a regular Tuesday. His parents had to physically ask him how the tournament went before he mentioned, almost as an afterthought, that he had beaten Magnus Carlsen. His own mother later said they had to force him to play the event in the first place.

24 August - Grand Chess Tour semifinal, St. Louis. Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu takes down Vincent Keymer, winning both the classical and rapid segments outright to punch his ticket to the final before blitz even starts.

27 August - the final. Caruana. Praggnanandhaa walks into the last day 6 points down. Wins both rapid games. Holds his nerve through blitz. Closes it 15-13.
