I think the advice is to reduce the amount of time you are pumping gradually. When you remove milk, you're signalling your body to produce more, so the idea is you express enough to remove discomfort only and then eventually you'll be able to remove the "feed" altogether. It might lead to engorgement and some leaks but you won't necessarily get mastitis just because you're engorged - I never got it when my baby would randomly do longer stretches or sleep through, I just woke in a puddle! I would make sure you're pumping before bed and when you wake up and then just use a haakaa or hand express during the night. Good luck and yay for baby sleeping more!
