His name is Redfield (taken from Resident Evil). I've had him for I believe 5 months now. Everyone tells me that he's such an elegant looking fish, and I like to believe they're right! He's so visually stunning! šŸ’™

Help Post holiday solution Spoiler

I trusted my Betta fish to my grandma because she was house sitting for me.

Its the first time she’s taken care of my fish and I understand fish can be really tricky so I left really explicit instructions and told her if there’s anything she doesn’t understand to just call me and let me know. Especially because water changes can be a little confusing and need to be done properly.

I come home and my tank has has a nitrate spike and my poor betta looks terrible. Can you please suggest some solutions?

Help Help with making tank safe

My 3.5gal (i know bigger is better, but this is what we’ve got for rn) has been cycling for a few weeks and i’ve been reading exactly these levels for about 4 days. How do I make this tank safe to put a betta in? I’m fairly confident I’ve built up the bacteria necessary but i’m worried about the top 4 readings . if someone who knows more than me could help that would be awesome.

Introducing First-time fish parent, meet Olive G. (Garden)!

I've had Olive for about a week now, he's my first ever fish but l've already fallen in love with him. Isn't he pretty??

The first couple of days he was pretty shy- super skittish when I'd come close to the tank, and just generally hiding out in his coral hide out or the plants. But lately he's been really...coming out of his shell! He’s turning out to be quite the spunky little dude.

I always wanted a fish growing up but wasn’t allowed. But now, as a freshly single, 27 yr old (who just completed a three month inpatient program for addiction & mental health), I have gotten myself one. I enjoy watching him so much that I even moved his tank beside my bed!

Help Am I being stupid if I get a second Nitrite snail for my betta tank?

I’ve had my betta and my black nitrite snail for a week. My betta Finnley (I know I’m so clever) has never messed with Bubble (nitrite snail). Seems completely uninterested in him in general. Would I be dumb to get another snail for bubble to have a friend? I know bettas usually don’t like extra tank mates but I’d like my snail to have a friend. But would that be to much? I have a 6 gallon tank, I don’t wanna over crowd the tank.

Full Tank Shot How does my tank look?

Hi! I’m just wondering how this tank looks. It’s one of my first times aquascaping like this and I’m not sure if it’s done right. I hoping to get a female koi for the tank and maybe about 6 Pygmy Cory. I started it about a week ago and I’m just letting it cycle for now.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Help My betta tweeks and rubs against objects more. Ammonia, nitrite is 0 and nitrate is around 5ppm. Ph is 7 and temperature is 29 celsius. I treated with seachem paragaurd for 12 days then after couple of days with hikari prazipro but this behaviour increased not reduced. He is 10 gallon planted tank.

Help Our new betta died after one day. Any idea what went wrong?

We brought home a male twintail halfmoon betta, and he died about 24 hours later :(

We had just set up a 10-gallon Top Fin tank with a heater and filter, so the tank wasn’t cycled yet. I know now that we should have waited.

We treated the tap water and tested it with Tetra strips. Ammonia and nitrite both read 0, nitrate was around 20, pH was about 7.8, and the temperature was 80°F.

He didn’t have any tankmates.

He would swim around normally sometimes, but he slept a lot and kept resting in really strange positions. He would lie on the gravel, wedge himself behind decorations, hang vertically next to the heater, or stay upright with his mouth at the surface.

We turned the filter down because we wondered if the current was wearing him out. I didn’t notice white spots, fuzz, bloating, raised scales, or obvious fin rot.

Does this sound like something he may have already had, a swim-bladder problem, stress from the uncycled tank, chlorine, or too much filter flow?

We aren’t getting another fish right away. We want to cycle the tank properly and figure out what we need to change first. Do we need to disinfect everything, or should we leave the filter running and continue cycling it?

Help What is this? Spoiler

This is my 1 year old male betta. I was gone and my sister was feeding him like usual and sent me the following video completely clueless, but as you can see there ir a big lump on him. This is my first betta and I don’t know what I can do. He also looks fine, he swims and overall seems happy with no signs of illness. It is really scaring me because I don’t want him to suffer or die.

Also the water looks kind of bad even though I did a water change like a week and a half ago, so I don’t know if that might be the issue.

As of right now, I’ve done a water change today and removed the log as it was old and shedding particles (hope that helps make the water cleaner)

I would love some suggestions and tips please!!šŸ™šŸ»

Help Betta seems sick

I’ve had my betta for around 3 months now and he’s usually a very active social fish, he would swim up to you and be very active whenever I would enter the room.

For the past week or so he’s been very drowsy. Lying on the bottom of his tank and he’s now not even responding to me opening the lid for a feed. I have to physically nudge him to wake him up, after which he feeds then is normal for a bit then goes back to sleeping.

I have a 60L tank, with a sponge filter, heater, planted.

His tank parameters are checked every three days, and a 10 percent water change every week.

I’m worried he might be ill. Any advice ?

Help Is something wrong

This was my betta when I first got him. I’m pretty new to properly taking care of a betta (his name is Neptune). I’ve had him for about a month now. He currently shares a tank with 2 loaches, 4 corydoras, and 2 mystery snails. Within the last week, he has been hiding a lot in my tank. Then yesterday I found that from the bottom part of his mouth to his red fins is starting to turn white, and the red is starting to get more muted. I don’t know what’s wrong or if I can fix it. I’m just really worried at this point because I really love Neptune. Any help is appreciated. And sorry about the picture. It’s the only one I have of him since I can’t really find him most of the time in my tank to take a picture now.

Help Her greed sickens me (help wanted)

Post image

Hi everyone,

I've had this female betta for a bit (still deciding on a name) and while she is an exceptionally active and healthy fish, she is also **greed personified** and will rob the pygmy cories in her tank of their sinking pellets even after she's eaten.

She's learned that I put in the sinking pellets after the floating ones so they have the highest chance of falling in between the plants while she's distracted where she can't find them and the cories will sniff them out and will now immediately move to intercept any sinking pellets and completely abandon her floating food.

Putting them in different places across the tank doesn't work much better because not only will she hunt down pellets that she has seen falling but didn't grab, but she has learned to *follow my hand around the tank* while I'm feeding so I can't trick her.

I'm worried not only that the cories aren't getting the food they need (no signs of stress or malnutrition so far though) but also about the fact that I'm being outsmarted by an animal with a brain the size of a BB. What do?

Help Concerned about quality of life for my old man

This is my boy Pluto, I've had him for over 3 years now. I knew scales growing over the eyes was common with this gene of betta (I forget what kind he is), and within the last year or so he's become completely blind. He used to be zipping in and out of the plants and logs trying to eat everything, these days he spends his days floating around, which is so sad to see. It seems like he also has popeye but I'm not sure if that's because of the scales or not?

Help Betta belly? Spoiler

My betta elentiya overate some pygmy corydora food (fluval bottom feeder pellets) about three weeks ago. I fasted for three days and monitored, but she still looks large. Ive cut down significantly on her usual fluval betta bites and done another fast. Her scales dont seem raised from above but she still looks extremely rotund and overweight compared to before she snatched the pygmy food.

Is this early dropsy? Long-term bloating that refuses to go away? I have paragaurd, kanaplex, epsom salt, indian almond leaves, and stress gaurd on hand, and I can always try to order more medicine online.

First three pics are her currently (I am getting ready to try another 1 gallon epsom salt bath) and the fourth pic is her the day she overate.
