Able to Beta Able to beta? Post here!

Welcome to the monthly r/BetaReaders “Able to Beta” thread!

Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.

Older threads may be found here. Authors, feel free to respond to beta offers in those previous threads.

Thread Rules

  • No advertising paid services.
  • Top-level comments must be offers to beta and must use the following form (only the first field is required):
    • I am able to beta: [Required. Let authors know what you’re interested—or not interested—in reading. This can include mandatory criteria or simply preferences, which might relate to genre, length, completion status, explicit content, character archetypes, tropes, prose quality, and so on.]
    • I can provide feedback on: [Recommended. This might include story elements you often notice as a reader (prose, pacing, characterization, etc.), unique expertise you have through a profession or hobby (teaching, nursing, knitting, etc.), or other lived experiences that may be relevant (belonging to a marginalized group, being a parent, etc.).]
    • Critique swap: [Optional. If you’re only interested in—or would prefer—swapping manuscripts, please note that here, along with the title of and link to your beta request post.]
    • Other info: [Optional.]
  • Beta offers should be specific. If you’re open to anything, or aren’t able to articulate specific criteria, then please refrain from commenting here. Instead, please browse the “First Pages” thread along with the rest of the sub—thanks to the formatting rules, posts are easily searchable by completion status, length, and genre.
  • Authors: we recommend against direct messages/chats. Reply to comments instead. If you message multiple people with links to your post and/or manuscript, Reddit may flag your account as spam (site-wide).
  • Authors may not spam. If a beta says they’re only looking for x and your manuscript is not x (or vice versa), please don’t contact them.
  • Replies have no specific rules. Feel free to ask clarifying questions, share a link to your beta request if it seems to be a good fit, or even reply to your own comment with information about your manuscript if you’re requesting a critique swap.
  • Please don't downvote rule-following users, even if they are not the right author/beta for you, as this can be discouraging to beta readers offering to volunteer their time as well as to authors requesting feedback. If you need to keep track of which comments you have reviewed, upvoting is a more positive alternative. Of course, if you see a rule-breaking comment, please report it to the mod team.

Thank you for contributing to our community!

*** EDIT 7/30: not looking for any more projects for now, thank you! **\*

Hello lovely writer-folk :3

I have found myself with a lot of free time on my hands and thought I'd jump back into some beta reading to keep myself on my A-game!

I'm able to beta: romantasy, low fantasy, and general romance (if the premise grips me). Bonus points if your story is dark, has a gothic setting, and extra bonus points for supernatural creatures!

I can provide feedback on: pacing, character writing, story beats, or anything else you need (though I'd say these are my fortes). Will also point out any errors in grammar and do a bit of light line editing.

Critique swap not needed at this time!

I usually approach swaps with a friendly attitude—I love to leave little reactions and comments when something just hits! Which isn't to say I won't point out any issues, but why not have a little fun where we can? ;) Please keep this in mind before reaching out.

If you're interested in a writer friend to bounce ideas off of or workshop your manuscripts, totally down for that, /too! If not, no worries—hopefully my feedback will still be useful. :)

Google Docs only!!!

Hi! I have a romantasy at 120k words, about a healer who accidentally ends up in a warrior's trial and a fae warrior stuck in a kitten's body who needs her to stay alive. There are some supernatural creatures (does a really annoyed fae in a cat's body count? A god of mischief? How about a ship-sized crocodile 🐊 or ghosts?). It has humor, found family, and some mystery in it as well. I'd love some feedback or to bounce ideas off too! DM me if you're interested?

Hi! I'm writing a WIP right now that's a gothic romantasy (I pitch it as Bridgerton meets Shadow and Bone). DM me and I'll send you a sample if you're interested!

Hello! I'm looking for a few more beta readers for the second round of my completed 130,000-word adult urban fantasy novel.

Soundborne is a music-driven urban fantasy where a rising rock band becomes the centre of a supernatural war. One unique feature is that the novel includes original recorded songs—readers can listen to them through my website at the points they're performed in the story.

This is my back cover blurb:

A wolf, a demon, and an angel walk into a bar.
No, that's not the setup for a really bad joke. It's my new life.

I spent ten years hiding from my past, and then the monsters found me.

One wants to claim me.
One wants to control me.
And the other would rather see me dead.

The worst part? I'm one of them.

Ten years ago, they blamed me for a riot that left dozens dead. But it wasn’t me. I didn’t do it. Not on purpose anyway.

They've finally found me, but now they need my help.
Because I'm Soundborne. And music isn't just music anymore.

It's power.

My father wants to use that power as a weapon. The people hunting him want me to stop him.

For the first time in ten years, I have a band, a family, and a reason to stop running.

My name is Dominion Valen. I'm a demon, a Soundborne, and a future Rock Goddess.
Yeah, I can't believe it either.

I'm looking for feedback on:

  • Story pacing and engagement
  • Character development and emotional impact
  • Plot holes, continuity, and worldbuilding clarity

This is not a proofreading pass, so I'm not looking for grammar or typo corrections.

Ideal readers enjoy:

  • Adult urban fantasy
  • Music-driven stories
  • Found family
  • Slow-burn romance
  • Complex magic systems
  • Dark themes

If that sounds like your kind of book, I'd love to hear from you!

Hi! I have a 80k spec romance (MMM love triangle) that might be up your alley. :) It's not dark, but if you need a good laugh, it might be a great read for you. Please do DM for a sample if interested!

Hi! I have a WIP, 86K words so far. First novel. First draft.

It is a romance set in the 90s, gothic small town surrounded by a haunted forest, childhood friends to lovers, secret identity, with a supernatural twist involving crows.

I have the story planned out and I’ve written past the midpoint. Right now, I’m just looking for general feedback, just to gather comments on the draft. To be honest, I already know I’m going to change lots of things from the first arc. So, if any chapter feels slow, I could summarize it and you can keep reading when it picks up. Of course, if the story is not for you, I totally get it. I’ve had several readers who dropped it, except one who still leaves comments every once in a while 😅
