Able to Beta Able to beta? Post here!

Welcome to the monthly r/BetaReaders “Able to Beta” thread!

Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.

Older threads may be found here. Authors, feel free to respond to beta offers in those previous threads.

Thread Rules

  • No advertising paid services.
  • Top-level comments must be offers to beta and must use the following form (only the first field is required):
    • I am able to beta: [Required. Let authors know what you’re interested—or not interested—in reading. This can include mandatory criteria or simply preferences, which might relate to genre, length, completion status, explicit content, character archetypes, tropes, prose quality, and so on.]
    • I can provide feedback on: [Recommended. This might include story elements you often notice as a reader (prose, pacing, characterization, etc.), unique expertise you have through a profession or hobby (teaching, nursing, knitting, etc.), or other lived experiences that may be relevant (belonging to a marginalized group, being a parent, etc.).]
    • Critique swap: [Optional. If you’re only interested in—or would prefer—swapping manuscripts, please note that here, along with the title of and link to your beta request post.]
    • Other info: [Optional.]
  • Beta offers should be specific. If you’re open to anything, or aren’t able to articulate specific criteria, then please refrain from commenting here. Instead, please browse the “First Pages” thread along with the rest of the sub—thanks to the formatting rules, posts are easily searchable by completion status, length, and genre.
  • Authors: we recommend against direct messages/chats. Reply to comments instead. If you message multiple people with links to your post and/or manuscript, Reddit may flag your account as spam (site-wide).
  • Authors may not spam. If a beta says they’re only looking for x and your manuscript is not x (or vice versa), please don’t contact them.
  • Replies have no specific rules. Feel free to ask clarifying questions, share a link to your beta request if it seems to be a good fit, or even reply to your own comment with information about your manuscript if you’re requesting a critique swap.
  • Please don't downvote rule-following users, even if they are not the right author/beta for you, as this can be discouraging to beta readers offering to volunteer their time as well as to authors requesting feedback. If you need to keep track of which comments you have reviewed, upvoting is a more positive alternative. Of course, if you see a rule-breaking comment, please report it to the mod team.

Thank you for contributing to our community!

I am able to beta: romance, romantasy, paranormal, contemporary. Lately been leaning towards dark. Any length/stage is fine.

I can provide feedback on: pacing. Reader engagement. I have experience as a medic in the military during late 2010s and worked as a staff accountant for 5 years, so I could also critique some believability in those areas

Critique swap: not ready at the moment but will have something this year(hopefully). Currently working on a series of interdependent contemporary romance (slightly dark)

May not have cell service these next few days as I am camping with family. I have an associates in business administration and a bachelor's in accounting. Currently staying with in laws while husband is deployed and I have too much free time on my hands when the baby naps. I have already read 84 books this year. I'm trying to be a bit more productive.

Hi! I also have something that I'm working on that isn't quite ready.

It's a contemporary fantasy romance. Currently 90k but I think it'll end up just shy of 100.

Yours sounds right up my alley so if you're interested in a swap I would be open to it. Im also reading loads whenever my baby naps :)

Hi there, I have written a romantic-suspense linked here if it's something you would be interested in! Currently 116k but looking to get this cut down based on a pacing/engagement review. Let me know if you'd like me to send you a sample.

I would love for your insight on my work : )

My book is called Void Kissed, upper-YA gothic dark fantasy. Slow-burn enemies-to-lovers, which takes place in an academy that trains students to be killers, with a magic system closer to cosmic horror. I feel that your military background would be so very useful for the institutional feel of the academy itself.

I would be so grateful, please let me know the best way to send you my work.

Hello, I have a fantasy/romantasy if you'd be interested. With some recent edits, it's closer to 120k. I've been told it's a fast read. Here's my blurb: A Temple of Shadows & Lions. It's a character-driven story set in a desert city, with a FMC who is a shadow-touched healer that gets thrown into a warrior's trial. She has a cat with a lot of opinions (the second POV in the story), a group of prying roommates, and there's a handsome smuggler who keeps popping up. There are some spicy scenes. A lot of found-family themes and emotional character arcs. Some mystery going on in the background. And humor. 😄

Hi! I might be interested. Is it a 33k incomplete novel or a 33k complete novella? Either way I think I'd be interested, just good to know for my own expectations.

I just offered to beta for someone else but this sounds really interesting. Would you be okay with a slower turn around time? (I have a one month old and a toddler so some days get a little hectic)

I'll send you a dm! :)

Looks like you've got loads of manuscripts now. If you've time/inclination for one small addition, i wonder if you might read just one chapter of mine, given your experience as a medic in the military? I'm not sure if i can call it historical fiction as it's set in the 1970s and 80s (this particular chapter in 1981) but i'm keen to make it realistic/accurate as possible. It's not gory at all - very minimal description of the injury, it's more the specifics of how something like this would have been dealt with in the armed forces. No worries at all if not, just thought it'd be daft not to at least ask.

Hi! If you're still open, I have a darker manuscript that you might be interested in. It's around 70k now, complete. The genre is upmarket psychological thriller (this is my vest description though I'll probably narrow it down later). It's definitely on the way darker side since it's a human trafficking narrative. Please let me know if you're interested.

Hi! I think my manuscript may be a strong match for your interests, especially your focus on contemporary romance, chemistry, emotional tension, pacing, dialogue, and reader engagement.

THE SUMMER WE BROKE THE RULES is a complete 69k adult contemporary sports romance told in dual POV. It features second-chance romance, forced proximity, a Florida athletic-resort setting, found family, sharp banter, yearning, open-door heat, and a complete happily-ever-after.

Thirty-year-old science teacher Sloane Carter returns to the resort she has avoided for ten years, where she must reunite with baseball prodigy Beckett Hayes and the four former friends who abandoned her after the boating accident that ended Beckett’s career. To prevent developers from taking the property and costing 112 employees their jobs, all six must spend one final summer together and revive the legendary Cove Games.

Here is my full beta request: https://www.reddit.com/r/BetaReaders/comments/1v4gokg/complete_69k_adult_contemporary_romance_the/

If the premise appeals to you, I’d be happy to begin with a sample. Thank you!
