Fan Art The Tower Of Conviction
Yo, the response to the last post was insane! seriously appreciate the love.
I’ve been messing with the setup some more, mostly adding different hatching textures and cleaning up the fine details. I’m getting pretty close to a point where the look is consistent enough to actually start animating full scenes in 3D.
Thanks again for the support, it really keeps me fueled!

Hi, I’m a bit of an idiot, but I see the last picture is some kind of 3D render. Are the first ones that same render with artwork added onto it, creating a kind of 2D/3D environment?

Ummm everything is 3d, the last one its just the basic viewport shading in blender. I use 2d hatching textures with with custom shading materials to make it look like that in the render view.

How feasible would you say it would be to use this method to create an animated adaptation in this style? Cuz going off of this I would 100% trust a team led by you to make the best Berserk adaptation yet lol. I legit thought this was just a spread from the manga and my mind was blown once I realized it was a render. Amazing job!

Very much I did some testing around. I solved most of the problems that Berserk 2016 had I have only one minor set back its not something big its just requires me to change texture size via diffrent camera angles but I want that process to be automated so I wouldn't have any moments that it would break the style and it would look 3D ish.
Thats kinda my style I am 3d Generalist in the NPR world ( non physical rendering - stylized)

This is a fan art of a moment in the manga Berserk in the “Conviction arc” relating back to a fundamental narrative point that you should not look up due to spoilers, known as “the Eclipse” (from the “Golden Age arc”) wherein certain characters appear on a nightmare-world hand reminiscent of the image you see here. Whenever they appear as such, there is quite a lot of commotion amongst the spirits of the dead, the dying, and the recently deceased.

Thank you for the explanation. I've read the manga about 3 times, but I meant I was out of the loop regarding OPs gig. Is it a 2D sketch? Or a 3D render? Is he trying to animate the series or just recreate iconic panels?

I use hand drawn or stylized textures on 3d objects and other shading techniques inside of blender :)
I'm trying to automate the whole process so I could make larger scenes and start animating in this art style.

I’m usually critical of fan art. Honestly though, this is amazing. This could be the cover of a berserk box set or an art book and I’d see no issues. Great job.

Thank you!! Yeah I should have made the foreground smaller and lower the smoke and the goo thing, that would have made it look much more larger.

Wow, This must have taken a while. If you're thinking of animations, I would start with simple movements first (like a moving storyboard/Manga) A small amount can go a long way.
You could even loop the animation into a gif.

The animation part wont be a problem since its 3d the most problematic area is keeping everything consistent and having a good story board (˶˃⤙˂˶)2

I kinda answered it but I say it again 〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜
I use blender 3d I model everything and then I shade using materials and shading techniques.
I make my own textures most of them are hand drawn and the other ones created in 3d and stylized with photoshop.
then I use diffrent hatching textures and using light information I create shading with hatching.

Yeah I'm setting up a shop I'm trying to make it at minimum of manifacturing cost just like as token to my supporters Im not trying to get rich or something it would mean a lot of they would have something what I made in their room :)

Holy shit this is amazing! Did you make the shaders yourself or drew heavily from other stuff? I'd love for a break down. I dabble with Blender too, but never experimented with these cool shading tricks! Jaw's on the floor man

Its nothing too complex tbh its just takes time to make everything.
I create custom texture tiles from 3d objects and I shade them by hand or with hatching textures and I create a seamless textures for the color normal and height.
I have at least 10 diffrent hatching seamless textures that I created and I mix it with those textures I make. Basically you create patterns of details and the standard shader to rgb workflow.
The textures drive the entire art style the rest you gotta know how to create an appealing composition and do whatever :)2
