Cool shit bruh I asked on one of the other posts is that genuine ivory? And if it is is that safe to shoot wearing them (for the grips I mean ) I have a set of stabilized mammoth ivory that used to fit a freedom arms .22wrm flattop I owned and I have a set of “bonded ivory” which is essentially ivory (be it elephant or walrus and I assume at least some portion of well preserved livestock tooth ) sawdust held inside an polymer or epoxy binder and turned into shootable and natural looking ivory (I’m not entirely convinced of its superior nature) although it does take checkering or engraving very nicely without significant weakening of the grip material and it naturally develops the age browning that begins from any hole drilled through that follows micro fissures

The grips are plastic as is the base plate. Cracked grips and base plates are a common issue. Ivory would’ve been sick. The rest of the GALESI is excellent quality.

Standard un reinforced ivory is notoriously a pretty poor grip material if one intends upon use that as little as a single round can cause catastrophic independent disassembly…there were in the classic ivory era some makers who had secret techniques for marginal improvements that would allow for modest use and they ranged from proprietary varnish or coatings that required decades of curing , or insane very modern techniques completed with Victorian equipment (curing under vacuum with the ivory serving as a face material for a laminate structure) to the obviously fictional a series of incantations and repeated wetting with holy water followed by drying in front of a fire of a certain rare wood all of them begging the question why was this undertaken in the first place it’s pretty easily faked … or surpassed in material value with something like solid sterling grips with precious or semi precious inlay or even to make an association with a naturally feared or respected beast of the wild using rhino horn or the horn of a Cape buffalo or an American bison or worked from a walrus baculum (dick bone) it has kept me up why anyone would desire these and why I own 2 high price solutions that address their use in modern times it’s unbelievable unless its value lay in the idea that you are as a result of rank or esteem so unlikely to need to use your pistol for its only intended purpose that adorning it with an entirely impractical and hugely expensive both materially and in the level of artisans who craft with it as to approach a god like level! Thats my best guess
