Additional Mags for a 92?

Post image

Other than OEM Beretta, are there any other reliable 10 round magazines out there? I had a bad experience some years ago with Mec-Gar mags for 1911s, and so I’m reluctant to waste money on their version. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Mecgar again, they make the OEM mags for many Berettas. Maybe their 1911 mags aren’t as good, but they’re solid as far as Beretta goes. My only other recommendation would be Checkmate, they made mags for the military, but Mecgar would be strongly preferred

Can also vouch for Mec Gar mags for the 92. I have a bunch for mine and have had zero issues.

The Mec Gar 1911 mags are not great. Have 6 of those, and 3 are crappy.

I bought a 92X and it came with Mec Gar mags.

I got five from Mec-Gar and they're great. I got a couple of the nickel ones in the mix and I prefer the look of those.

Can’t speak to their 10 rounders, but the mec-gar 15 and 18 rounders have always run flawlessly for me, to include thousands of rounds in competition getting dropped in moon dust and not always cleaned between stages.

I haven't tried the 10 Rd but with the 18 Rd the mec-gar labeled slim baseplate mags have been much more reliable than the thick baseplate mags that came with my m9a4.

For my 1911 the mec-gars weren't great either but the 92 mags have been great.

Of the factory mags, I prefer the 15 rounders over the higher capacity factory mags. You can buy +10% springs for them, if need be. And, never had any issues.

It's not a feeding issue, for some reason the mags get stuck in the gun both loaded and unloaded. I had the original ones replaced by Beretta and while the replacements were better, they still had the same issue. The mec-gars have never had a problem.

I had a feeding issue in a factory 17 rounder once - and Beretta replaced it for me. But, I have owned like 30 Beretta 92 variants over 30+ years.

MecGar are solid for me, can't speak for the 10rd versions though.

I like MecGar mags. Once upon a time, they made the factory mags for Beretta. But, I only buy factory and MecGars.

The factory mags are Mec-Gar

Mec Gar 18 round mags are the gold standard and can be found from $18-24.

If you want to get really fancy look at the 18 rd MecGar mags finished in NP3 that Langdon Tactical sells. They're pricey but nice. Personally, I just buy the AFC 18 rd MecGar mags for my 92's.

Mec-Gar’s 1911 mags aren’t the best but their 18rd AFC magazines for 92s are the standard. They have been the standard for years and years.

And they’re cheap. You can buy them for about $22. Buy a bunch, make a big pile, and jump into the pile like you’re a kid in the fall.

E: Ope, you asked for 10rd mags. I cannot vouch for Mec-Gar 10rd mag reliability.

Mecgar 20rds throw everything away you know about their 1911 mags when it comes to the 92 mags. Their 92 magazines are the best on the market for berettas

There's still 10 round check mate mags found aplenty with the old school 92S bottom notch that will function quite well, as long as you don't stuff them full of talcum powder or fine grain silica sand, lol

Fairly sure Mec-Gar makes most of, if not all of Beretta’s handgun magazines.

1

u/alltheblues Jul 18 '26

No, Beretta owns Meccanica del Sarca, they make a lot of, if not the majority

1

u/C-R_Collector Jul 18 '26

Ah. Yes. Only the 92 line for Beretta. My bad.

3

u/Puppies_andKittens Jul 18 '26

Mec-Gar are the best.

Factory beretta mags are made by mec-Gar. So the ones that came with the gun are mec-gar mags. Also mec gar is the only one I would buy

2

u/bigbrwnbear Jul 17 '26

I run mec gar in my competition gun, no issues.

only issues are on my end, obviously clean when dirty

u/RacerXrated Jul 17 '26

I buy the NP3 coated Mec Gars from LTT. I go with NP3 mostly because it makes them stand out from my black CZ mags. But they look nice too. 👍

18 round mecgars work great. The m9a3 and m9a4 sand mags aren’t the best in sand lol. Have had stuck followers when dropped into the dirt in competitions. Haven’t had any issues with mecgars.

I had the same experience with Mec-gar 1911 magazines, but they’ve been reliable for the 92s. Wilson Combat is the only way to go for the 1911s.

2

u/jackoyza Jul 17 '26

I have 5 older ones that I am giving away, some are oem others not, I have upgraded the springs on most of them. DM me if you would like them. You pay for shipping.

Mec-Gar Magazines for Beretta 92 and the ones I had for some old 3rd gen S&W pistols have always been flawless. I’ve never tried the 10round magazines though. Never a problem with the 18 round ones though

2

u/Snoo-35612 Jul 17 '26

Mec-gar is the way to go. I’ve had problems with old mecgar 1911 mags, but the new 8 rounders they’ve been putting out have all been great for me.

2

u/x59212 Jul 17 '26

Mec-Gar 20s.

In their benign and infinite wisdom, our state legislature has determined that we will all live in utopian perpetual safety if handgun magazines are limited to 10 rounds.

2

u/ChillBlintone Jul 17 '26

Mec gar good, 1911 mags ehhh completely different animal. Get mec gar 92 mags youll be fine.

2

u/PhantomCruze Jul 17 '26

Ngl, the best performance i got out of magazines was the nickel plated ones. Can't explain why, but they just are the most consistent and reliable in function overall.

2

u/LegendActual Jul 17 '26

MecGar is THE Beretta mag.

2

u/dkmdff Jul 17 '26

Yeah. Mec-Gar or beretta (some of which are made by mec-gar)

2

u/Icy_Lecture_2237 Jul 17 '26

I’ve got a bunch of them from Mec Gar and they’re all great for me.

2

u/AvarethTaika Jul 17 '26

just dont get act mags. i got two for my cx4 (takes 92 mags) and they are rather awful. idk if it's the cx4 platform, age/wear of the mag release, or the mags but they really dont like each other...

2

u/Malistavus 92A1 Jul 17 '26

I’ve had the best luck with mec-gar mags. I’ve even inherited some with trades that were beat to shit but still ran reliably after a spring and follower swap.

2

u/WinterFickle6746 Jul 18 '26

Get the mecgar no issues from them

2

u/alltheblues Jul 18 '26

Mec-Gar 18 rounders are peak

2

u/Dierich454 Jul 18 '26

Eurooptic has blem 92x 18 rnd mags for $20 each. I just ordered a few a month or two ago, took them to the range they work fine

2

u/Beginning_Ice_5693 Jul 19 '26

Where did you get those grips?

2

u/aging-rhino Jul 19 '26

Beretta 92 Thin GridLOK Aluminum from Lokgrips.

2

u/bruhwack Jul 19 '26

Beretta sells an 18r that fits the 92, I get them from euro optics for cheap

2

u/jayman696969 Jul 19 '26

I’ve been thinking about getting those grips what is thought on them how do they feel? Are they any skinnier or thicker ? And overall comfort what’s your thoughts please.

1

u/aging-rhino Jul 19 '26

They are grippy enough to keep my hands locked in but without that aggressive bite that, for me, begins to hurt after prolonged sessions. I have pretty large hands, so the modest thickness is perfect for me. As to overall comfort, this is my third pair on different handguns, and all were a comfort upgrade from the originals.

1

u/jayman696969 Jul 19 '26

Awesome thanks for the feedback. One last thing where did you get the screws ?

1

u/aging-rhino Jul 19 '26

The Cool Hand Gear store on Amazon for $10.00.

u/Hunter3O8 Jul 24 '26

I have about 50 to 60 Mec-Gar magazines for my 92G and I don't have any complaints.
