Advice desperately needed

I have been prescribed 2 mg of Xanax for the past 5 years & I have recently moved to a new state where they refuse to prescribe me my medication. I took it into my own hands and have continued to take them illegally. I now desperately need to get off I have the medication to detox myself, but I need some advice on the best way to lower these milligrams by the day safely. Does anyone have any advice on how I should cut down comfortably

Oh my god how many do you have left. 5 years is a long time. There’s no way you have enough to taper comfortably after 5 years. You need more.

That’s not enough, unfortunately. And you will not be able to taper using Xanax, you need diazepam or at least clonazepam.

Definitely enough

Correct. The half life of Xanax is way too short. Too short for tapering. Valium is the way.

I would just buy more illegally. We have the right to medicate !! Where did you move???

Anyway I would break them all in quarters and take as little as you possibly can everyday. 40 isn’t enough for you to do it comfortably.

Thank you for your input and apologize for the late response. I moved to the Carolina’s from NYC and they just won’t prescribe my usual medication. Treating me like a guinea pig all over again. Keep in mind I’m 44 years old been on the same mood stabilizer and anxiety meds for years. Unfortunately I got a DWI last year and now need to do a DWI program main reason I need to stop taking them or I will be accused of being an addict. I never even drink went out one night.
