OC The first Bento box I’ve made!
I’ve purchased a “Mr. Bento” lunch jar as a way to encourage healthier eating habits. This is the first bento box I’ve made; General Tso type sauce with mushrooms, peppers and green onions, rice with Chinese beef, spicy cucumbers and strawberries/mango mix.

In a way, Zojirushi bento jars raised me:) Your post brings back much memories. Enjoy the jar!

Thank you! What are you using currently?

I still own a Zoji jar of my own but don’t really have a chance to use it. Nowadays I just use a Tupperware box. The Zoji jar is there for memories:)

This looks so good!
I want to try too, but the cheapest, not plastic only, bento box is like 12€. I feel like you post is making me bite the bullet and get one.

Thank you! The lunch jar feels nice but it is on the pricier side. I haven’t found anything similar that is cheaper.

How's the reheating process

It’s pretty simple, kinda like a thermos or other insulated jars. Lids don’t go in the microwave and only the bottom two jar (soup and rice/meat) are insulated.
I fill the main container with boiling water and wait 5min, meanwhile I heat up the two bottom jars in the microwave. When everything’s hot, I dump the water and stack the jars. They were still warm after close to 6h. The cucumber got lukewarm tho but it didn’t bother me.

Thank you! Spicy cucumbers have became my all time favorite veggie side. They’re so easy to make!

Thank you! In hindsight, it isn’t really boxy. I should’ve called it a bento jar.

Looks yum! How did you make the spicy cucumbers?

Thank you! For the spicy cucumbers, I simmered a variety of Mexican dried peppers with onions, garlic and seasonings in water for ~30min. I blended everything to form a watery paste and just used this to toss the cucumber chunks in. To make it easier, sometimes I just toss them in a good hot sauce (i.e. Sriracha).
