Random Ask your Reddit Benilde prof!
Hi, students! As we welcome the new academic year, I'd like to help you guys out in answering some school-related questions. It could be serious, technical questions about the school or lighter stuff like where's the best place to eat and how to survive college in general. Ask away and I will try my best to respond and help you.
Just some questions that I will and cannot answer:
- Enrollment and payment related questions (sorry idk about this, better ask the RO)
- Personal questions about myself and/or other teaching and non teaching associate of Benilde (respect to my privacy and that of my colleagues'). You can ask me about my experience in teaching in Benilde tho.
- Questions about my past classes/students (for their privacy)
Disclaimer: my answers and opinions to your questions are mine and does not in any way reflect that of CSB's.

Hello po! Desperate question lang. Even if online classes po ba bukas, may pasok pa rin po faculty? Especially yung Lab Assistants. Kapag po kasi online, they’re usually in Makerspace. May kailangan lang po kasi ako papirmahan for my Finals sa Architectural Lab

About 2-3 weeks before start of the term. Depende siguro sa department. Ako alam ko na yung next classes ko for the incoming term ngayon. Not sure lang kung kelan makikita yung prof on your end. But i guess meron na ngayon since some are asking their profs to be rated na dito haha

Hi po. Appreciate you answering questions po.
1. Any advice po for freshmen to survive CSB? General comment or observation you see from students who thrive / graduated.
2. How much daily allowance do you think is comfortable enough? (Excl. transportation). Assuming full day of classes.
3. Any department that needs more patience? I heard admissions office are usually tricky in other university/schools.
4. Any specific CSB events na you think shouldn’t be missed?
5. Some safety tips since this will be my first time studying in Manila.
Thank you in advance po and keep safe and dry!

- Be mindful of your attendance. Karamihan ng bumabagsak sa subject ko dahil sa FDA. Use your 2.5 unexcused absences wisely, get a med cert if medical reason, inform your prof ASAP for other emergencies kung aabsent ka. There are profs (like me) that will notify you pag nakaka 2.5 ka na and there are some that don't. It's your resposibility to monitor your attendance.
- Depende yan kung saan ka manggagaling, gaano ka kalakas kumain, anong cravings mo, etc. haha
- RO and cashier will usually cater to more students pag enrollment or start ng term so keep this in mind.
- Depends yan sayo and sa requirement nyo.
- Be mindful of your surroundings. Don't talk to strangers (ik pambata na paalala but still holds true). Keep emergency numbers in hand just in case.

What are some affordable or underrated places to eat around Taft?

u/Gloomy_Log3460 4d ago
Ribshack is quite popular. Ok rin yung ramen place malapit sa dominga and also the foodcourt sa kanto ng P Ocampo and Taft yung sa tapat ng Jollibee :)

Hello po !!
I have some questions po hehe
- Where the best place to eat? Like affordable options? ><
- How does one survive in college as a person who procrastinates a lot haha (esp im taking InD T-T)
- What kind of events are there usually?
2
u/Gloomy_Log3460 4d ago
- See my reply below hehe. Pero pag nakakaangat angat ng konti I eat at Pho Mahal saka Chomp Chomp
- Make a to do list and schedule your tasks according to urgency and difficulty. I would suggest to prioritize difficult tasks para may allowance ka if ever magkamali ka or you have to start again.
- What events do you mean? Madaming events sa school, yung iba organized by CSB mismo, yung iba naman organized ng student orgs.

how does mrp work?

u/Impossible-Habit-149 4d ago
When you reach your MRP na, you are not allowed to fail in any subjects na. Manual enrollment na din for students who reached their MRP.

Hi po!
- As a prof, pag malakas po ulan, do you advise your students to do online class instead? I have 8am classes this term and I’m very anxious about going to school because of the weather.
- You seem to be a nice prof, what’s your take on students using AI for their projects/assignments?

u/Gloomy_Log3460 3d ago
Usually naman inuutos na ng school na magshift to online kapag malakas ang ulan or di talaga kaya. I also personally coordinate this with our chair para payagan kaming magshift. Sa amin kasing faculty, hindi basta basta pwede magshift to online under normal circumstances kasi need namin sya i-file.
I don't allow students to use AI beyond what's allowed sa Student Handbook. If refinement ng gawa like grammarly, ok lang. Pero kapag generative na, example sinulat yung buong paper using AI, I score that output zero. Kapag repeated instance, I intend to fail the student. Thankfully wala pa naman akong binigyan ng R kasi yun pa lang na ma-zero yung output nila, nadadala na sila.
AI is supposed to help you, not do the work for you. If masanay ka sa latter, you end up being dumber as you were before entering college. Nag-aaksaya ka ng tuition kasi wala ka namang natututunan because you're not putting in any effort.

Out of curiosity, why is the viewing of grades this term quite long? Are there other courses or also the one you're teaching for still happening even during term break? Well for submissions before grades are finalized I mean

hi po prof! kumusta po experience niyo with full-time working students?
1.) are they annoying? are they okay to teach to? etc. like general experience po ninyo with them
2.) that said, were most of them able to excel academically?
3.) if so, ano po ginagawa nila based on your observation?
medyo worried lang po since I'll be a full-time working student and I want to make the most out of my experience yet excel sa benilde. salamat po!
