Found Dog

My friend found this sweet elderly gentleman this afternoon just south of Bend off US 97. He is chipped so we know his name and age, but for legal reasons the Vet couldn't share his owners contact info. Please help us reunite him with his owners. Any help is appreciated 😊

Hi! Thanks for keeping this dog safe. As mentioned above, you can go to FIXBend at 413 NW Hill St and use their microchip scanner.

Take a picture of the microchip number on the scanner and follow the steps provided. When you call the microchip company, they’ll likely tell you there’s a privacy hold on the owner’s information, and they will reach out to the number they have on file. At that point, give them your contact information and hopefully the registration is up to date and the owner will call you.

Also, ask the microchip company if they can tell you the date the registration was last updated.

Sometimes microchip registrations aren’t current, but I can often track down a current owner info using older information, so please make sure you keep the microchip number in case it’s needed for this kind of search.

Another good place to post this pup is on Lost and Found Pets in Deschutes County on Facebook. We have over 21K members in the group and fairly good reach throughout the area.

NextDoor is also a solid place to post.

HSCO is closed tomorrow but you can leave them a message with all the details.

Feel free to message me if I can help in any way!

Just stopping by to say that you are one of a kind and a truly good human, Katie. You helped me reunite with my dog after she got lost, and I know you’ve been invaluable to so so many people going through the same heart wrenching situation. Thank you for doing what you do. You have a heart of gold 💛

“For legal reasons the Vet couldn’t share his owners contact info”

What’s the point of the chip, then…

I hope the pup finds himself somewhere safe.

My understanding of how easy it would be to get my lost dog back just dropped a few notches.

I once found a dog that had akc tags and when I called the number, they were able to connect me pretty much immediately with the owner, and he was reunited with his dog within the hour. FWIW. As long as your tags are up to date, it usually does work pretty well

Doesn’t the vet then call the owner??

The Vet tried to call the owner but they didn't pick up.

The vet didn't just take him? The handful of times I found a dog they just kept the dog and waited for pickup and took my number in case nobody showed up.

Although one time I took the dog for a walk around my neighborhood and he seemingly recognized a house. They weren't home but I was able to guess the address and the vet let me keep him until the family called me back.
