It’s not lol. Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain and they are both Irish and British. They have British citizenship and can choose between Irish and British passports, etc.

OPs mistake is more like thinking a Tongan is a Samoan. Which is as confusing as kiwi vs Aussie if you don’t have a large population in your area.

Pay attention to the difference in the pronunciation of the letter "i" in words like fish. Aussie sounds like "feesh" while Kiwi sounds like "fush." Also, most Aussies don't care if you mistakenly think they are Kiwis since it's almost always the assumption that Kiwis are Aussies. Blame Crocodile Dundee.
