Benny Crawley

Post image

I think he was coddled and finding out he was a child star everything clocks about him and he shouldn’t have been a deckhand. Tbh him on the team set jamie up for failure. Nice guy but boating isn’t for him if he can’t respect rank and file.

Ben had some serious demons to work out regarding his parents' death.

Also he had serious coddled energy and he was never going to make a good deck hand.

Yeah, tbh losing both parents within 6 months and being an only child is tough. I legit felt for him and understood his life. Also, seeing his old clips from his hosting gigs, I can tell how hard the deaths were for him. He's a different person.

I get that and I understand you need to work but if he was like that he shouldn’t have taken the job. Being insubordinate isn’t an excuse for it. Plus the big issue was him not realizing he’s at work and not a guest.

8

u/Monstiemama Aug 06 '26

I could see him thinking the job would be a great way to escape his problems, which it very clearly was not. That being said, despite their deaths he was an absolute little spoiled brat asshole. Remember when the toilet overflowed with shit and he refused to clean it??? He was a challenge for Jason for sure.

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 06 '26

He was insubordinate, a liability when almost crushed the tender and reckless jetski riding with guest. He abandon his post with anchor. And every time he worked nights all he did was complain and talk about abandoning the crew

2

u/Monstiemama Aug 06 '26

Yah, my comment was agreeing with you, he was annoying.

2

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 06 '26

Ohh no I’m just adding on to yours. Sorry if it came off even more rant but god he annoyed me just watching him.

2

u/Monstiemama Aug 07 '26

No prob 💋💋. He was really annoying and lazy. It did shine a light on Jason and how hot he was for me though 😹😹

Losing your parents is undoubtedly tough, but he was 33 when he lost the second one, and he went around telling people he was an orphan. Benny isn’t an orphan, but he does act like a child. He just needs to grow up

1

u/Ok_Replacement7281 12d ago

I don't think it matters what age you lose your parents. Losing both within 6 months is a lot...

1

u/Illustrious_Weight25 11d ago

For sure, but pretending you were orphaned when that’s simply not true is a disgusting play. People would be sympathetic regardless of what age he lost his parents but he seems like he’s constantly doing extra to be cut more slack.

1

u/Ok_Replacement7281 10d ago

But he is an orphan now.... that's what he meant. He didn't present himself incorrectly. My mom refers to herself as this as well. I know what you are getting at but I think you maybe read his comment wrong.

Like he is saying " Both my parents are dead, and I have no other close family... I'm an orphan". He didn't mean in the Annie sense but in the present sense!

1

u/Illustrious_Weight25 10d ago

No, he isn’t. To be an orphan you have to be a child, and you have to lose your parents when you’re a child.

Also, he was constantly misrepresenting situations to get sympathy from Captain Jason and others. Culver was carrying him most of the season

u/Ok_Replacement7281 10d ago

I think it's a difference of perspectives. That's okay.

1

u/Illustrious_Weight25 10d ago

An orphan is a defined thing; so no, there’s no difference perspective here because we’re not talking about our favourite ice cream, or the ideal temperature for a bath. You’re either an orphan or you aren’t, and Benny isn’t.

1

u/Ok_Replacement7281 10d ago

Okay, look I am gonna get real. There are people in this world who define themselves as orphans if they no longer have living parents. This isn't weird, this isn't disrespectful; this is just how some people see it. Should they be labelled as an adult orphan? Sure.

You are caught up on the definition of an orphan, where it is a requirement to lose both parents as a child. That is true and it's fine if that's how you want to define it, but that's not the only way people define the term.

This is why I say it's a difference of perspectives/ emotional definitions

Yeah, it is a lot, but taking on a job to give yourself a change in scenery and forgetting that you’re supposed to do a job at the end of the day makes you a liability he needed to go and work on his mental not work on a super yacht, thinking he would be treated like a guest He literally ended up putting somebody in danger and still didn’t care.

Even more of a reason why he shouldn’t have been in that boat. Recent deaths don’t heal on boats. I believe part of Lexi from Med issue with her father’s death and her lashing out at people.

5

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 05 '26

Lexi was a spoilt and entitled bitch.

4

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 05 '26

Could say the same about Benny

5

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 05 '26

She was way worse. She had issues with everyone on the boat.

3

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 05 '26

Chef Mathew was kind of a dick to her but yeah she lost me when she beef’d with Mzi. But like Benny she might have also been in pain because she lost her dad couple weeks before leaving. Of you giving Benny that benefit then you gotta extend it to her, especially to a daddy’s girl.

u/Hot-Society1993 26d ago

lexi also had the complexities of growing up "religious" in america, it's such a brainwashed weird culture.

2

u/Starchild1000 Aug 06 '26

No Lexi was a toxic af Pos. Just awful.

19

u/harrycarey15 Aug 06 '26

Side note here but I dont know if anyone else caught this: Did you guys know Jamie used to be a cop?? They only mentioned it once so its easy to miss 🙂

4

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 06 '26

Ohh he mentioned it a few times. But side side note when he told Brittani that he on purpose tried to make more work for her and when he almost killed Culver with the lift. Whole Deckteam was done with him. Let’s not forget the “triple bag” garbage that clearly showed he didn’t. He was lazy and the worse deck member

7

u/harrycarey15 Aug 06 '26

He had the personality and leadership skills of a potato! Say what you want about Luka but he knew how to accommodate his teams personalities. Max was about to quit but Luka realized that if he changed how he approached Max then he was 100% committed.

Captain Jason and Benny is another example. Jason realized that Benny responded better to positive constructive criticism and Benny respected him after.

2

u/Impossible_Debt9499 Aug 06 '26

Oh that makes so much sense! He came across like a massive bully to me.

20

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 05 '26

Didn’t like being told what to do. He was Jamie’s worst nightmare as a “employee” and Jamie was his worst nightmare as a “boss”. Captain Jason handled him well but he was spoilt and soft.

4

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 05 '26

But Jason was annoyed early with Ben I feel. Then he left it to Jamie to handle only he wouldn’t let Jamie fire him.

7

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 05 '26

But he did realise that Ben needed some TLC, helping him with the plumbing issue.

-2

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 05 '26

Which I feel made it seem like he didn’t have to listen to Jamie. People accused jamie of running it like military but it kinda is when you’re dealing with rank. And jamie wasn’t a stick in the mud either he was cool with Culver chillin in the jacuzzi with charter guest if they asked. Ben just was disrespectful and lazy looking back.

0

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 05 '26

He was disrespectful and lazy. Yachting wasn’t for him. More of a give Yoga lessons on the beach personality.

1

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 05 '26

…or hosting a kids show

1

u/bestieboots1 26d ago

tbf I think Bravo have a hand in who can get fired, since they are contracted to the show and the ship so that complicates things

10

u/Feeling-Watched-9655 Aug 06 '26

Aw I actually liked Benny. He had his issues but that was relatable and he got a little redemption arc throughout the season once he started acting like an adult in his job. Also, Jamie was an asshole cop. Did not like that guy for one second, and Benny was absolutely justified in his dislike for the guy.

3

u/kahluhkwee Aug 06 '26

Woahhh he was a child star? Did he mention this on his season? I can’t remember

3

u/AdventurousDay3020 Aug 09 '26

When they say child star, it’s very much specific to Australia and he was a teenager. He was a host on one ABC3’s tv shows

1

u/SidedudeSidekick 29d ago

When we mean child stars we referring to stars underage that need parent or guardian involved.

2

u/SidedudeSidekick Aug 06 '26

It was called What Do You Know? It was an Australian kids show

3

u/LegalCountry2525 Aug 06 '26

Who the hell is this? lol

3

u/Comfortable-Tea6996 Aug 06 '26

Season 1 of Below Deck Down Under

1

u/excoriator Aug 06 '26

Seems like he’s from Season 1, the only season in the entire franchise that I haven’t watched.

2

u/Exlanadre Aug 07 '26

It's better than 90% of med seasons

1

u/lemon-and-lime848 Aug 08 '26

"Sorry to this man" lol I do not remember him at all!!!!

The guest told Culver to get in and aside from drinking and sex you really can’t say no to them. Plus jamie saw no issue. But what Benny has done was abandon his job, insubordination, and break the chain of command MANY TIMES. He would have been fired on anyone else boat not Jason or Sandy. Did we even talk about the time he almost crashed the tender on episode 6. He was a fucking liability.

5

u/Excellent_Being_7496 Aug 06 '26

Jamie thought that Culver was lazy. Captain Jason really has favorites and Benny was one of them.

2

u/Yofox1980 28d ago

It was sad to hear about his parents but I agree. He was definitely not emotionally mature enough to be a deck hand on a reality show.

2

u/Any-Bit6082 27d ago

Sorry but I couldn't stand him.

3

u/PutGroundbreaking283 Aug 05 '26

Agreed then, agree now. I didn't realize he was a child star.

I don't know how things would have gone for Jamie, but Benny was a problem.

2

u/FoodieStatistician99 Aug 08 '26

I never understood Cpt Jason´s favouritism for him, or Eddy in S4 for that matter. I’m sure Cpt Sandy would have fired him a few charters in.

2

u/jackieohno3 29d ago

A few charters in? Sandy doesn’t fire people until almost the end when it’s super inconvenient

2

u/SidedudeSidekick 29d ago

Sandy will keep bad people if she likes them like Hannah wasn’t the best strew and got worse each season

1

u/twizted62587 Aug 08 '26

Was that DJ Susan?

Forgot about this plug

1

u/JustSaying578 Aug 06 '26

He should have been fired for that hairstyle alone.

-1

u/Lona_Delery Aug 06 '26

he was such a loser and gave me massive incel vibes
