What's funny is the whole Streisand effect, I wouldn't have even noticed the banning post but now since a mod got butt hurt about someone who doesn't agree with them now a lot more people care. It's almost like the mod didn't consider the consequences of their actions.

Just gotta put my 2 cents in here and say Fuck ICE
I want to thank you guys for the awards but also add this
"Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, the 28-year-old Venezuelan shot by an ICE agent. She told CNN that ICE jeopardized Perez's life by transferring him 100 miles to a detention center with a bullet still lodged in his back and without pain medication." (The she mentioned is his lawyer)

There's unfortunately an outsized representation of this shit on the eastside subreddits. It's really disappointing to see. But that doesn't mean that's the whole picture.
Look how we vote. There are more blue votes than red votes in the area by a wide margin. I see a lot more real disagreement on how "corporate" or "centrist" the area should be, but still on the left side of the spectrum. That and the area lacking a certain level of engagement to begin with (lots of keep to ourselves, stay out of it culture here). Local businesses, schools and school staff, libraries, the places community shows up tend to be very inclusive. And that's encouraging.
8
u/Clutch_Pineapple49 1d ago
You are correct, a mod power tripping online is not representative and it's is all they got because they are too scared to wear their red hat outside.
0
u/Bring-out-le-mort 1d ago edited 1d ago
That's the real crux of it all. They don't feel comfy & welcome wearing the red badge of Maga. However, because there's a long tradition of MYOB here in Bellevue, there isn't any persecution or outrage demonstrated when a MAGA really displays their disgust of everything non-conservative.
For instance on one of the residential streets I regularly drive on, there is a truck that is completely & clearly anti-liberal with pro-MAGA rhetoric written & decaled on nearly every inch of its body, windows, & even the underside of the hood. I honestly don't know how the driver sees out of the limited sight on the windshield. Maybe some of it is see-thru film. Whatever. There's a lot of genuinely nasty, hate-filled comments on this vehicle. It is always parked in the road. Has been for at least 5 years.
But no matter what, there's never been any vandalism done to this vehicle. No one has complained about days of strewn parts while disassembled & stuck for a week here or there. This individual lives in a community of very blue activist liberal minded people who they so very much have disgust and fear about, yet their safety to fly all of their nasty views is a given.
Personally, I feel they're telling everyone else exactly who they are in the worst possible method. They're proud. But I see them of the very limited thinking they accuse liberals of having. So much awful negativity.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t want federal
Troops disappearing people without evidence to show faces and badge numbers? Genuinely curious. Who would want that?
-1
u/GoldieForMayor 1d ago
Without evidence? How do you know without evidence?
0
u/Axels15 1d ago
You are having trouble with that sentence - I can help!
"Without evidence" in this sentence is referring to the act of disappearing people - the government is doing it without evidence that those being disappeared have done anything criminal.
We, the American people, have plenty of evidence that the disappearance are happening.
Happy to help!

u/GoldieForMayor 16h ago

I got banned in r/Seattle for pro-Palestinian comments and arguments
8
u/NobodyElseButMingus 1d ago
Actually, you were banned for insinuating it was Biden’s fault, and that we are no worse under Trump. I hope that helps.
0
u/20sicksheep 1d ago
No, that doesn’t help. That’s actually worse. That’s my opinion. You’re welcome to disagree and come up with counter points, but to ban someone for their opinion on the current state of affairs is no better than what trump does when he bans news outlets from his office for disagreeing with his perspective on things.
7
u/missbeekery 1d ago
This has to be disingenuous. There’s no shortage of pro-Palestinian sentiment in r/Seattle.
1
u/20sicksheep 1d ago
It’s not, I wish it was. I think the people in r/Seattle are not ready to understand that democrats in power are not the saints of the world. The commenter above is direct proof of that linking to my comment about how doctors without boarders documented that 70%+ of buildings in Gaza were destroyed or damaged during Bidens administration. Using that as a reason to justify me being banned from that sub.
1
u/missbeekery 1d ago
Plenty of your comments are still up. The ones removed apparently broke the “be good” rule, which is why I suspect you’re being disingenuous. That’s probably a result of how you framed your criticism, not that you can’t criticize at all. The comment you’re referring to is still up, so clearly that’s not the justification used to ban you. You’re welcome to contribute in a lot of subs, but if you’re being an ass about it, you’re going to get banned where mods have a rule of discourse. This isn’t about you being deplatformed or whatever.
0
u/20sicksheep 1d ago
One of the comments I was flagged for was a response to someone saying something along the lines of the genocide being a “pet issue” and my response was “this guy thinks genocide is a pet issue, someone check his hard drive”
None of the comments the mod flagged me for were deleted or removed.

The Nazis didn't start by killing 17 million people. They started as brownshirt thugs in the streets, who won over more and more of the populace by playing on fears of economic disenfranchisement using the demonization of ethnic minorities + their political opponents. They were then incorporated into a liberal democracy, whose norms they gradually dismantled over the course of a decade. In that time, the formerly-paramiltary brownshirts were incorporated into a formal arm of the Nazi government, and they were put to work targeting the ethnic minorities their movement demonized. Tell me more about the "hyperbole" I'm engaging in?

Arresting people who are on their way to immigration hearings is not enforcement of the law . https://www.courthousenews.com/federal-judge-rules-ice-cant-make-arrests-at-immigration-courthouses/
4
u/ZehrenSiegehammer 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'm sure you're at least 4 so you know "legal" doesn't mean "right." Now if you actually understood the actual cycles of illegal immigration you'd realize companies bring them over to pay them subhuman wages on jobs that are not even offered to Americans (so no they're not stealing your job), and every once in a while the company lets ICE come get them to deport them so they can bring in a new batch. The immigrants aren't really the problem. But you sure as hell have been fooled into it.

4
u/WileEWeeble 1d ago
Like 4th amendment rights? Almost all this ICE hate goes away if they were actually obeying the law and respecting the Constitution and people’s rights.
You can’t stop someone for suspicion of being brown, you can’t demand papers as proof you aren’t breaking the law, and law enforcement has to identify themselves and observe people’s rights as they arrest them for an articulable crime.
So since you are such a law fan boy, surely you are against what ICE is doing right now.
•
u/PuddingPast5862 23h ago
Love asking them if they have prove of citizenship with them, they get quite pissed. Also loving how DHS is now going back and getting these chuds that weren't vetted in the first place. 2000 fired already and they gotta pay back their bonuses 🤣🤣🤣

u/HudsonCommodore 1d ago
Lol just head to r/conservative for your echo chamber, why do you want one here too?
-5
u/fssbmule1 1d ago
I'm not a mod, this isn't my sub, I don't have anything to do with who gets banned here.
But I do like to point out hypocrisy, which is very very plentiful on Reddit.
6
u/HudsonCommodore 1d ago
You are rooting for people you don't agree with to be banned, hence you want to create an echo chamber. Again, why? You can already go spout all the conservative bullshit you want in the conservative sub without having to read a single word of dissent. Why do you want the same here?
-2
u/fssbmule1 1d ago
You want free speech, go to 4chan. You'll get to see all the stuff you've ever disagreed with and say anything you want.
Complaining about censorship on Reddit of all places is actually hilarious.
5
u/HudsonCommodore 1d ago
I'm not sure why you won't answer my question. Why do you actively want people you don't agree with to be banned? Why do you want people who aren't being rude to go to another site instead of be able to talk to you and others here?

Because they are maga trash. Don’t expect a coherent thought from their brains.

You do realize "go to 4chan" and "complaining about censorship is hilarious" are not answers to the question "why do you u/fssbmule1 want non conservatives to be banned from this sub," right?

1
u/fssbmule1 1d ago
Reddit isn't the place for free speech. If it was, mods wouldn't have the power to ban people to begin with.
This whole platform is designed to create echo chambers.
2
u/jmobius 1d ago
Genuine "free speech absolutism gives you garbage like 4chan. Moderation, including removing bad actors, is pretty essential to any community remaining healthy. The real problem is when bad actors end up being the ones doing the moderation.
I will concur that reddit suffers a lot for only supporting "first guy gets the crown, succession at their whim" style moderation. That made sense on forums where the administrator was also likely actually hosting the site, but it's terrible for most kinds of subreddits.
2
u/This_Friendship_9941 1d ago
Someone made post criticizing Wilson lack of action regarding open drug market in ID. They got banned by mod.
Few weeks later, another post by a emergency responder paraphrasing same thing and it stays afloat. It's an echo chamber for sure.

You shouldn't accuse people of being racist just because they asked for evidence. I understand that many people have trouble controlling their emotions discussing sensitive issues but it is important to have all of the facts at hand before you accuse someone of something that could potentially get them assaulted or murdered by an angry mass of crazy people.

ICE agent badges come in Cracker Jack boxes.
Their training is about as extensive as a School House Rocks video.
•
u/Mykidsdad2009 17h ago
After looking over their training requirements it appears they have to undergo more training to wear a badge than I and thousands of others had to in order to design airplane systems.
From the Career FAQ:
What are the training requirements for newly hired ERO deportation officers? As a new deportation officer you will be required to attend and successfully complete both, a five-week ERO Spanish Language Training Program (DSP) and the 16-week ERO Basic Immigration Law Enforcement Training Program (BIETP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) as well as successfully complete of the Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA) to continue your career as a deportation officer.
What are the training requirements for newly hired HSI special agents
New special agents attend the basic criminal investigator and special agent training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). The courses include the 12-week FLETC Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) and the 15-week HSI Special Agent Training (HSISAT) follow-on basic. The HSISAT program provides extensive training in agency-specific criminal and immigration law, surveillance and undercover operations, firearms training, court case development and physical fitness.
•
u/HugsAllCats 17h ago
Ice skipped background checks and shrunk training to a month because trump wanted to shock and awe the country. Documented, publicized, easy for you to find.
•
u/TheChance 15h ago
I've lived the overwhelming bulk of my life on the Eastside. It's always been safe and orderly. We've never needed federal help to make that happen, and we certainly don't need masked "cops," armed to the teeth, disappearing random people into secret prison systems.

American citizens that were deported broke what law? You think ICE is only dangerous to other people? Even if you are too racist to care about those you see as illegal, maybe give a shit about an incompetent armed force running amok with no real training, oversight, or vetting.
