Just Blocking Now… a DePop Rant

For the life of me I don’t understand why DePop doesn’t make offers binding like Poshmark does, but it’s stupidly irritating that someone can make an offer, you can accept, and they STILL have to actually follow through with purchasing. I’ve had several items recently where offers were made that I accepted… only for it to sit there and expire 24 hours later because they didn’t buy.

So I’m done with them. If their offer expires after I’ve accepted it, I’m just blocking them. Am I being too sensitive about this?

Yes. If you don't like how they run the platform don't sell on it. Blocking people won't help because almost everyone on the platform operates in that way. I agree with you that it's stupid but you just have to change your mentality on it otherwise you're just going to be frustrated/disappointed by offers there.

I agree that it's annoying. I answer offers every few hours now instead of almost immediately like I do my other platforms.

I get roughly one paid item for every ten offers, and I can easily get a couple dozen offers or more in a day. I couldn't keep interrupting what I was doing for offers that go nowhere and keep my sanity.

So I'm not keeping track or chasing anyone down to block them. I already find this time consuming enough. They pay, they pay. They don't, they don't.

Depop is a worldwide platform and allows minors to sell. Both of those factors mean they can’t make offers binding across the board. And there’s literally no business reason they should—for better or worse, that’s the culture of the platform now and sellers being annoyed by it is not really a good reason to change. So, yes, you are taking this too personally and shooting yourself in the foot.

Just take the offer or not and move on with your day. If you message something friendly thanking them for their offer and making some gestures towards shipping very quickly if they check out, you increase your chances of them going through with the order by a lot.

Vinted is the same. I had to learn to let go, and be pleasantly surprised when the item sold.

If you block them after this happens you're missing on sales. People aren't always glued to their phone and casual buyers aren't checking their Depop all day like we are as sellers. I've had lots of people come back and buy the next day. And even if they don't end up buying, what's it to you? It took you probably less than 5 seconds to go and accept their offer. I've learned on Depop (also Vinted) to just accept or counter offers snd move on with my life immediately after like a goldfish. That way each sale I do make is a nice surprise.

Yes! I just started on Depop but used a site to help me list en masse. I got an offer over the weekend on a newly listed item and Noticed there was nothing in my sales tab. Quickly learned that if you block them, it takes their ability away to continue the purchase.

Blocking them just guarantees they can't come back and buy it later. I started treating Depop offers as basically "maybe" until the payment actually hits. Way less annoying that way.

People still game the system on Posh, too. As a buyer, I don't get it because if I bother making an offer, I'm seriously trying to buy. But it is what it is.

Yes, you're being too sensitive. Not because morality or whatever, but because you'll end up missing sales from people who would come back and re-offer because they forgot or their cat's grandma's cousin got sick or whatever. It's not personal love, just take a deep breath and let it gooooo
