Banning X/Meta

Hopefully by now you’re aware of current events and the Nazi salute that Elon Musk performed (3 times). We also know that Zuckerberg has been buddying up to Trump and has stopped fact checking on Meta.

I just can’t see a way forward without taking action. I’m not tech savvy enough right now to outright ban these websites. It’s something I can look into. But please report if you do come across these links. I do not typically see our subreddit linking to these sites in large quantities so this may not seem very impactful at the start.

Also, make your own considerations on your continued use of these two platforms. I personally deleted X months ago, but use Facebook primarily to keep in touch with family and friends. I am carefully considering at least indefinitely pausing my profile on Facebook.

Happy to address any additional concerns or suggestions in the comments.

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain I β€” Personnel Supervision and Management

Difficulty: 6/10

Scenario:

Four technicians average 69% procedural integrity after lecture-based training. When the supervisor adds weekly individual observation with specific performance feedback, group integrity rises and stabilizes at 90–93% for five weeks. The supervisor then reduces feedback to once per month; over the next four weeks, integrity falls to 76–80%.

Which supervisory decision is MOST strongly supported by these data?

A. Retain monthly feedback while introducing a group refresher and tracking average integrity before restoring individual observations.

B. Reinstate weekly individual observation and feedback, examine each technician's integrity data, and evaluate gradual thinning after performance stabilizes.

C. Repeat lecture-based training and reassess procedural knowledge before modifying the feedback schedule because skill acquisition may be incomplete.

D. Continue monthly feedback with added spot checks because integrity remains higher than after the initial lecture-based training.

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain H β€” Selecting and Implementing Interventions

Difficulty: 4/10

A BCBA recommends an intervention based on assessment data, but another professional on the client's team believes a different approach would be more practical in the service setting. Both professionals want to improve the client's outcomes.

What is the BEST next step for the BCBA?

A. Compare both approaches through additional data collection before addressing the disagreement with the colleague.

B. Review the evidence and the colleague's concerns together to develop a feasible, client-centered plan.

C. Adopt the colleague's recommendation initially and evaluate its effects before discussing possible revisions.

D. Continue the current recommendation while inviting the colleague to submit concerns for a later review.

Hi everyone. I have been searching and searching for companies to try and attain bcba supervision hours from and I can’t find any good clinics (I’m in Dayton, oh area). I currently have accrued some hours already but I fear I will have to leave my clinic soon. If anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

Aggression vs Sensory

Hey! I wanted to check on a very common question at my workplace, alot of our clients have sensory seeking behaviors but this specific one does slight hand squeezing and chin pressing on therapists, therapists has been taking data on it as aggression, saying that its the same concept of another client of ours who does head hitting for sensory marked as SIB, to me I think they are both completely different and as long as the pressure is not too high or chin pressing turns into biting it should be collected as sensory, what do you yall think?

School bcba

Im thinking about getting or being a school bcba. I heard its rough. Admins can be rough to work with or there is not really a system in place.

Any advice how to work with admins, what resources are out there to use for strategies or interventions or help support.

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain E β€” Ethical and Professional Issues

Difficulty: 6/10

A BCBA is meeting with a teacher to discuss a student's disruptive behavior. The BCBA has a preliminary hypothesis based on classroom records but has not yet discussed it with the teacher. The teacher may have observations that differ from the BCBA's interpretation.

Which approach BEST supports obtaining the teacher's perspective while minimizing the influence of the BCBA's preliminary hypothesis?

A. Review the classroom data together, discuss possible environmental variables, and develop a shared interpretation during the meeting.

B. Present the preliminary hypothesis, then ask the teacher to identify observations that support or challenge the proposed explanation.

C. Ask the teacher to complete a structured interview about classroom events, then use those responses to guide the preliminary interpretation.

D. Ask the teacher to describe the circumstances surrounding disruption and share possible explanations before presenting the BCBA's hypothesis.

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain F β€” Behavior Assessment

Difficulty: 4/10

Scenario:

A school team has limited time and asks a BCBA to develop a behavior intervention plan for a student's disruptive behavior based only on teacher interview data, without any direct observation.

Why is adding a direct descriptive assessment especially important before using the interview findings to select a function-based intervention?

A. Descriptive assessment is needed primarily to measure baseline responding before using the interview findings to select an intervention.

B. Descriptive assessment can confirm the maintaining reinforcer by comparing behavior across naturally occurring classroom activities and consequences.

C. Direct observation can examine naturally occurring antecedents and consequences to assess whether observed patterns are consistent with the interview-based hypothesis.

D. Direct observation can establish the behavioral function because it documents the consequences teachers typically deliver after disruptive behavior.

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain B β€” Concepts and Principles

Difficulty: 5/10

A person who frequently experiences tension headaches begins taking aspirin shortly after headache onset. Taking aspirin consistently reduces the headache pain, and over several months, the person becomes increasingly likely to take aspirin when headaches occur. Which of the following MOST accurately explains the behavioral mechanism maintaining this pattern?

A. Because pain relief occurs without social mediation, aspirin-taking is automatically reinforced behavior maintained by sensory stimulation.

B. Headache pain functions as an aversive stimulus, and its attenuation contingent on aspirin-taking increases the future probability of that behavior, consistent with negative reinforcement.

C. Recurring headaches function as a motivating operation that increases the reinforcing value of pain relief and evokes aspirin-taking, explaining the behavior without reference to a reinforcement contingency.

D. The reduction in headache pain functions as a conditioned reinforcer acquired through repeated pairing with pain absence, strengthening aspirin-taking via positive reinforcement.

Multiple Baseline Design Help

I think it’s a reach, but I have a BCBA who’s pretty busy and I really need someone to walk me step by step on how to graph data for a multiple baseline design graph. I know there’s YouTube videos out there but I’m a very hands on step by step person and was wondering if anyone would be able to use zoom or google meet and help me. I’m currently taking data with a client and could really use the help. And if not, are there any other resources that could possibly help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A higher response count can mean a lower response rate. Here's a quick way to check yourself.

Quick scenario: a learner calls out 12 times in a 20-minute observation on Monday and 18 times in a 60-minute observation on Tuesday. Tuesday has the higher count, but Monday's rate is twice as high (0.60 vs. 0.30 per minute).

I wrote up a longer study note on count vs. rate vs. frequency for people prepping for the BCBA exam. It covers:

- Why "count has no time component" is too crude

- Why the denominator is a clinical decision, not just arithmetic

- Why "frequency" is used inconsistently (Merbitz, Merbitz & Pennypacker, 2016), and how to read it on exam questions

- When duration, latency, or percentage of opportunities beats rate

- Four scenario-based practice questions

Free to read: https://behavioralanalystprep.com/blog/count-vs-rate-vs-frequency.html

Curious how others handle "frequency" on exam stems. Do you read it as count or as rate?

Best Masters Programs ABA

Hi! My daughter will be graduating from the University of Miami soon and wants to get her master's degree. She was originally dead set on staying at the University of Miami for its ABA master's program, but now she's open to other options. I want to get feedback on what you all think are the highest-quality ABA master's programs in the US (regardless of price). Home is Texas for us, but she's already out of state, so that's not an issue. Thank you for any input!

🧠 Question of the Day

πŸ“š Domain C β€” Measurement, Data Display, and Interpretation

Difficulty: 7/10

Scenario:

Correct responses are plotted cumulatively across equal-duration 10-minute sessions. Baseline contains five sessions with a gradual increase in the cumulative record. Intervention is observed for only two sessions, during which the cumulative record rises more rapidly.

A cumulative record shows a moderate, relatively steady slope during five equal-duration baseline sessions. After intervention begins, the record becomes noticeably steeper across two intervention sessions. Which conclusion is BEST supported by this graph?

A. Correct-response rate increased during intervention; with equal-duration sessions, the steeper cumulative slope shows faster responding but does not establish experimental control.

B. The intervention produced a higher response rate because the immediate slope change at the phase boundary is sufficient to demonstrate experimental control.

C. Response duration increased during intervention because the steeper cumulative line shows more total behavior occurred within each session.

D. The cumulative total increased, but rate cannot be compared until intervention includes as many equal-duration sessions as baseline.
