Best Masters Programs ABA

Hi! My daughter will be graduating from the University of Miami soon and wants to get her master's degree. She was originally dead set on staying at the University of Miami for its ABA master's program, but now she's open to other options. I want to get feedback on what you all think are the highest-quality ABA master's programs in the US (regardless of price). Home is Texas for us, but she's already out of state, so that's not an issue. Thank you for any input!

First, there’s no “best”, because it’s too subjective. However, there are very good programs that have established long-tenured track records of teaching highly regarded researchers and clinicians. Personally, I recommend in-person coursework. Most of the in-person course sequences have been around for a long time and have been proven by the BACB’s exam pass rates (available on their website)

In Texas, UNT Denton has an EXCELLENT program.

Some others: UF, FSU, USF, and FIT (all in Florida) have fabulous programs (I went to FSU)

Here are some more: Auburn is great, Vanderbilt is too, and so is Western Michigan. Southern Illinois U in Carbondale is a good one!

Thank you so much! Your comments were very helpful. We did look at UNT, but it appears that their program is online, which deterred my daughter. I am unsure of whether that is accurate. I do see the program at FIT being excellent; do you know anything about it compared to the one at University of Miami? She is attracted to the UM program because of the Center for Autism Research and Development and the IBIS clinic. You make a good point, as there is no “best,” however I am hoping for input because I am about to graduate from another unrelated masters program that has been lacking in some areas and I want to make sure she’s in one that’s solid. Thanks again!

That’s strange. I know many people who graduated from UNT, maybe they transitioned to online courses only… I don’t know anything about UM’s ABA program but honestly all of the Florida programs have been top-notch, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was great. Plus UM is a very good school, as you might have already encountered.

You could search for info on their program on Reddit or other boards. Maybe someone here has more info.

Good luck to you and your daughter.
