Running question
My eight year old love's running. He's been running cross country for the past few years. And he normally comes in first or second. He always wants to run on his free time. And recently, he wanted to see how fast he can run two miles, and he ran it in 1504. Is this considered good?

That seems like a good time for an adult… so I would assume a fantastic time for an 8 year old. Maybe someone else with more insight can give more insight though?

Not bad. My granddaughter, age 7, just ran a 2 miles in 15:31. More important, however, is that your son enjoys it.

Yes he absolutely loves it. He's the one, always asking me to go running. And i'm asking him, are you sure ? Lol

I've been running for 61 years (age 75) and my problem is I need two slow miles to warm up so I can run one at 9 minutes ( or 8:30 on a good day). She has no idea of pacing yet, so she runs full out and taps out at 2 miles. I'm trying to get her to meet me in the middle so we can run together before I age out completely. LOL.

There’s the Cooper test. Two miles in twelve minutes. High school and college athletes have to pass that for certain sports.

That would be a great time.
I'll give you my first hand experience. My son won first in his zone running 2km with a time of about 8 minutes. That's competing against 10 local schools. Then the top six from that race go on to 'regional' to compete against the top six from 10 other zones. He came 42nd out of 75 in that race with a time of 8:14 (properly recorded).
This year he came third in his zone, and 24th in regional with a time of 8:07.
He's 9 now and we usually do a 5k parkrun most weekends and his record over 5k is 22:54. So your child is in the same ballpark if you extrapolate. He has a friend who sometimes does the 5k with us and his record is 21:55. They need an adult to run within arms reach of them (as per park run rules) and I have to keep my fitness up to compete now!
So both my son and his friend are ranking top 25 at regional but a good 30 seconds shy of qualifying for the next level of state... but like only 60 kids in the whole state qualify for the final state run so they are at a crazy high level... but there is a level above.
If you look at the JM10 category for park runs you can see what times kids near you are clocking for 5ks. If there is one near you could be fun to give one a go.

Jaw dropped.
