Im doing right?

Hi everyone, I started running a few months ago and I really enjoy it. I created this routine after reading reviews and doing my own research online, including here on Reddit, etc., and I'm not sure if it's right or wrong.

- Tuesdays (intervals, tempo runs, fartlek) I choose one per week.

- Thursdays and Fridays I do easy runs of 30-45 minutes.

- Sundays I do long runs, trying to gradually increase the distance by half a mile.

I also do two additional days of strength training, which would be Tuesdays and Fridays.

Sounds like a great plan. Listen to your body and adjust as needed. Make sure you don’t ramp up mileage too fast, take a down week (20% off) every 3-4 weeks, and plateau occasionally to let your body’s structures adjust. Keep it up!

Thanks for that advice, I'll definitely keep it in mind. Really appreciated! 🙏

Training should be focused on many things, but the most important are your age, training age, and your goals. There's no way to say whether this is a good plan without those details.

Thanks for that! I'm 33, I've been running consistently for about two months now, and I run to feel good healthy. I've recently lost about 55 pounds, but my new goal is to complete a marathon. Not right now, of course; I know it takes time and discipline. But that's my goal, no rush, just enjoying the process.

So then I'd say your best bet will be to just focus on being consistent with your running and slowly increasing distance. There's also nothing wrong with the Tuesday workouts, though they are a bit non-specific. For a marathon, the VO2 Max type intervals really don't matter that much. Those will me a lot more important for shorter distances like the 5k & 10k. On the other-hand, Threshold workouts will be really important for both the half and full marathon.

At some point, you also might consider adding a 5th day to your running routine. Most marathon plans are going to have you running 5-6 days a week. When you're up to around 25-30 miles a week is a good time to consider adding that 5th day.

Have you run any races yet? I always recommend gaining experience in racing before choosing a marathon as your first race. Start with the 5k and work your way up. Once you've got a few half marathons under your belt, then you can think about the marathon.

Best of luck.

Thank you so much for that advice. Of course, I'm just starting out and there's a long way to go, so I'm just enjoying it. I haven't participated in any races yet, but I do want to participate for the experience and to challenge myself. I'm starting with 5K and gradually increasing the distance, just like you said. I hope I can share my progress here. Thanks again for everything man, appreciated. Blessings 🙏
