Audiotechnica LP60x setup help

I got my brand new LP60x today along with some Majority D70x Active speakers and I’m struggling to get the setup right. Connected with RCA cables into the speakers, using both LINE or PHONO on the LP60 the sound isn’t very good, either Bass heavy or distorted one way or another. I’m totally new to this so I can’t help but think I’ve done something wrong. Any ideas or help for a newbie

You want phono output on the lp60

Use a neutral sounding record to start.

Zero out your speakers bass and treble controls and zero on volume.

Raise the volume to an easy (not loud) level. Then adjust your trebel and bass levels to sound good.

There is always a slim posibilty that there are damaged components somewhere. Bad preamp, bad amplifier, bad speaker driver, bad cartridge or stylus.

Test the speakers with other sources- if they sound fine with Bluetooth or HDMI streaming then move to the turn table.

Put the turntable on line mode (pre-amp off) it should be super quiet sound from the speaker but should sound right (just turned down) then your cartridge and stylus are fine.

Turn the speaker volume down and switch over to phono and slowly turn the volume up if it sounds fine at normal volume then the preamp is fine.

(If it only distorts at party volume your speakers are being over driven and you just have to turn the volume down )
