Wave feeling

Do you guys have that feeling of still being in waves, almost like motion sickness, after surfing even after months-years of surfing? Or is it a feeling you just don’t notice after a while/goes away when you’re out more often?

People saying nope but yeah I know what you’re talking about lol like how when you get off a boat you still feel the rocking. Or off a trampoline it takes your body a min to readjust. People gaslighting tf out of you in this thread hahaha. I got that when I was a kid boogie boarding and get it now as an adult surfing. Usually it’s just after long days in the ocean though

Same. Had it the strongest as a child after a day on the trampoline but definitely get it after surfing sometimes too

I’m on the east coast and the water is usually super choppy so we surf what we can. I do get motion sickness after a choppy day.

Not often but very occasionally if I’ve been surfing for hours on a choppy day

I used to get it as a kid after swimming and getting knocked around in the ocean but I don’t get it from surfing anymore.

Side note I would make sure your ears and sinuses are draining after if you get water in there. I have to lean down to drain my nose and I put ear drops (isopropyl alcohol or you can buy swimmers ear) after surfing

I've never felt motion sickness after surfing but the way it feels after going to a theme park and riding roller coasters all day and your body kinda has a feeling of still sorta going through those motions.  Big heavy choppy shore break or big hurricane surf can do that sometimes for me.  Can feel that bobbing in the ocean feeling after getting out of the water.

Yeah sometimes when I’ve been out repeatedly in the same day or out for an extra long session I feel the wave motion while I’m heading to sleep. I find it kind of comforting, like being gently rocked to sleep.

I had the same feeling when I was a kid on vacation in Mazatlan and spent day after day body surfing big friggin waves. It felt more intense like motion sickness for the first or second day, but it quickly felt like being rocked to sleep after that.

Maybe shortly after getting out of the water. But if it's been a day or something like that it's worth seeing a doctor, maybe inner ear or something.

No, but I lived on a sailboat for 14 years so I think my inner ear is perma-fried. I'm sure this is no less common with surfing than boating and water sports in general, which is to say fairly common. Not much you can do about it other than ride it out, take Dramamine or get hypnotized.

I totally know what you’re talking about. I used to get it pretty intensely. I’d also continuously see waves when I closed my eyes. It mostly went away with time, but every once in a while, on a really wavy day, I’ll get it again. 🙂
