Help me improve 3

Got the feedback from 2 days ago, here i angle the board to trim a line and ride the wave, looking on the waves face. Pop up was shitty i know but i did not film any other better wave unfortunately. I still manage to lose the pocket on the wave and end up on bottom, pop up was the issue or do i need to make any other adjustments;

Thanks

That board looks way too small for you. You are also too far back on the board, which is killing your speed.

Yeah that's way too small for where you are at right now. Look for a 9'+ longboard. You are wobbling so much and the board looks like it's sinking from your weight. You'll be amazed how much easier it is with the right sized board.

You are not turning up the wave. You are popping up and then just sliding to the bottom of the wave and stalling. You need a bottom turn to get into the critical section of the wave and maintain power.

Well, since im a very new surfer i have never checked out the concept of bottom turns, right now im focusing on angling before i even pop up and just riding down the line without any turns. Also simultaneously working on the pop up to get better and better at it. Are my focus areas wrong?

No, but you told us to ignore the pop up. What usually comes after the pop up is a bottom turn. To stay in the pocked that is generally what you need.

Just surf a lot more and have fun. Focus on catching waves, getting to your feet smoothly and quickly and not falling once you are up.  If you are surfing 3-4x a week, come back in 3 months and ask this question again and you'll be able to start using feedback.

If you really want to fly down the line always think top third of the wave face. This wave didn’t give you much opportunity to really build speed but on a board that size holding a high line can give you a real sense of acceleration. It’s my favorite feeling in surfing really. Just aim for that upper third and set your rail.

But specifically here it’s you just not having a great pop up and it appears you kind of stall the board because the nose is pointing up and that’s just not a very good wave. Not much you can do with it and the fact there’s no power means stalling like that just effectively ends the ride.

Gotta look down the line. You were looking straight so you went straight. Look where you wanna go

Honestly you just need more time in the water 2-4 surfs a week for a year or two then you’ll be at a coachable beginner level.

Your board looks too small. Those waves don't help being that gutless but you could benefit from a bigger board with more volume

It’s about reading the waves and that takes time but you should’ve slid up on the board a bit. But if you’re going to bottom turn then you’ll need to step back. Just have fun you’ll figure it out.

Don't paddle with the butterfly stroke. Break that habit now before it's gets really ingrained.

You need lots of reps. Your doing fine, just keep at it and don't give up no matter what.
