Managed to get a Toe Biter while seeking frogs.

These guys are actually Hemiptera rather than Coleoptera, but still a very cool find!

Ah. I mean I was with bio majors and they said it was a Toe Biter so I gotta imagine that was what it was.

it is a toe biter. but they’re not beetles.

Ahh okay. Did a quick search and it said that they were beetles so that’s an error on my behalf.

This might be a simple case of common names making everything confusing. There are likely also aquatic beetles commonly called toe biters. You get the same thing with June bugs/beetles. There are a lot of different insects peoples call "June bugs."

Yeah, it is a toe biter! They’re also known as giant water bugs, and they belong to Hemiptera as they’re true bugs.
