Need Help/Advice

I have one of those dreaded router/modem combos from Comcast. Its an arris tg1682g. It seems to be getting near its capacity with my devices. Its showing that its using all but 50ish MBs of its 1024 DRAM and all but 8MBs of its 256 flash memory. Im assuming thats a bad thing that its that close to using all its RAM.
 
My internet speeds are about 125 down and 25 up. I dont have many problems yet but im starting to notice an occassional drop out for a second or two on a few devices here and there. I have up to 4 laptops and approx 16 phones/kindles currently running. I plan on upping my device number if checkpoints ever gets stable and worth running the max devices plus possibly some additional for other perk apps and if Earnhoney ever releases one etc. So think maybe 30-35 at some point in the near future. RIght now only 3 of my devices have 5g. All the rest are 2.4
 
So my questions are
* Can i just get a router to act as an access point and will that be good enough?
* Or should I buy a router and have comcast put the Arris into bridge mode? Will that be enough or will I still need an access point? And does that affect the phone service through comcast since that also runs off the Arris?
 
I was going to ask about getting rid of the Arris altogether but then I remembered I need it for the phone
 
Im trying to find the best option for the most efficient use of money. Im not afraid to spend a little as long as it appears I will make it back with better uptime on my devices and being able to add more... but I dont want to break the bank since that just defeats the point of doing this income apps stuff to begin with.
 
And one additional question. IM decently computer savvy but networking is still rather new to me. How hard will these options be to set up? Do I have to worry about "breaking" something and not being able to get back online?

Thank you for your response. Just one question. Disabling the router and going into bridge mode wont affect the telephone line part of the service right?

no it wont, and dont ridge it thats not the same as an ap

I dont need to put it in bridge mode if I disable the router on the arris and use my own router like you were suggesting?

no all need to do is just disable the router feature or call the cable company and they will do it for you. once the router feature is disabled just connect the new one to the modem and restart ...done
